I used to work at Larrivee for a little over 2 years and Jean is a great guy!! He used to take all the employees for beers every second week and was very approachable for the head of such a successful company, his sons are good guys as well Matt and John
Such an honour to know Jean and to have been fortunate enough to have had him build me two custom left-handed guitars. It doesn't get any better than Jean Larrivee and his guitars. He is the real thing and he gives birth to magic. Happy Birthday Jean!!
Hey Jean, wuuu... Happy Birthday to you! You've always been so supportive and a great inspiration throughout the years. A glass of bai jiu cheers (ok, joking on that one!) . All the best and hope to see you soon!. Dave Dunwoodie
Happy 80th birthday, Jean! In the early 90s, I rented a Larrivée guitar from Steve’s. I couldn’t afford to buy one at the time. My duo Bare Bones was recording an album and I wanted our songs to be the best they could be. I’ll always remember how it almost played itself… and it sounded so beautiful! 🐴🔥🎶
I have three Larrivees - an OM9, C09 and a TSB SD50. They are not common here in Scotland, but there are as few players who are in on the secret as to how good Larrivees are. I sold my Martins, Taylors and Santa Cruz once I discovered them.
Dear Jean and Wendy, My wife bought her first Larrivee mahogany OM guitar in approximately 1990. It is still making the most wonderful music. Since then, we have purchased many more of your lovely guitars. Thank you for building the most beautiful and best sounding acoustic guitars.
Own a martin a Taylor but I never play them as much as I play my larrivee. The sound is indescribable plugged or unplugged. Thank you jean making us canadian very proud!
Thank-U & long life Larriveé!!!
you made me very happy with my larrivee J-09, best guitar ive ever heard. even my guitar teacher who owned hundreds of guitars in his life admits my guitar is one of the best.. THX Jean Larrivée!
I love you Jean. You inspired many other great Canadian luthiers.. you know who they are. You also have inspiered countless musicians who play your beautiful instruments including me; 2x L- 09 and 1x 000-60 ❤❤❤
A credit to being Canadian, down to earth no BS and proud of his craft. JCL we luv what you do!!!! And those electrics are really at the top of their field. If you haven't tried one, do yourself a favor!!!!
I have an LV-05. As I was playing it in the store trying to get a sound I liked out of it, my wife liked what *she* heard and bought it for me before I knew it. Seemed like anyone else I handed it to could make it sing in a way I could not. Almost let this guitar go a few times, but didn't. It took me 12 years off and on to finally bond with this special instrument, but last year I finally did! Glad I still have it.
I was introduced to Larrivee guitars about 12 years ago and have been playing them ever since. My 1995 OM-19 has a voice like no other. My local luthier shop agrees. Thank you Jean!
Jean is one of my heros. I got to know him in the late 1970s, and he has been an inspiration to me and other small builders for decades. Abrazo Jean, Kent Everett , Everett Guitars
Played my first Larrivée a few months ago. Best feeling I've ever experienced in a guitar. Been playing for 20 years, and just decided to save up some cash to get me a Larrivée of my own. Greetings from Sweden!
My 2004 OM-03R is the best guitar I ever owned and I owned about 30 guitars in the last 25 years. The harmonies, overtones and natural reverb are really impressive and are like no others. I never thought that a guitar could sound that good and that’s not even your best model, crazy 😜! To me, it’s a collecter item for sure! Merci Jean pour cette expérience unique !
As far as guitars are concerned none can be identical, especially the hand made ones. Millions of guitars are manufactured every year but i think none will be identical. That is the great magic!!!!
Bought a L-03 RE and really love it! This is a real keeper and the fact that it is made in my own beautiful country of Canada makes me all the more proud to own this gem.
I love your art. I go way back with Larrivees. My favorite is my SD-60 burst. It is magic. I have a rather rare one, its not a JV nor an LV but larger than the lv and smaller than JV. You stopped making this model..I love it too. Huge indian rosewood back and sides. Ever think of bringing it back? Love you Jean.
A few years back, I walked into my local GC just to play some guitars. I picked up a Larrivee, which I never heard of before. I played it and immediately bought it. Larrivee guitars are by far the best "out of the box" guitars out there. By out of there box I mean non private luthier, spend thousands of dollars guitars.
There are very strict international laws re the importing and exporting of exotic tone woods. I'm sure that companies like this one are very ethical and ensure that all of their wood has a proper documented history.
I'm looking into buying a bakersfield and I was wondering what the copper color looks like. Do you have any pictures? No dealers in my state carry your electrics.
Yeah Loved the OM-03 I bought last year. But then holes appeared in the neck. Wood boring beetles crawled out of it. Our dealer in Hong Kong offered no support and certainly did not act the way Larrivee say the dealer is supposed to deal with the warranty claims. I emailed Larrivee 3 times and never got so much as an acknowledgement. So what do you do? I gave my guitar back to the dealer and bought a Maton........ Excellent service right off the bat. I still go into Tom Lee Music and pick up a Larrivee and play it. I love the sound, sustain and the neck shape, great for my big hands. But man, what does it take to get you guys to reply to someone asking for help???? Oh yeah, I did pick the phone up and leave a message....... So I did try.....
The only comment i would place is... what are the de-forestation and ecological factors involved in this project - love the love for the craft, is there a way a worldwide sustainability concept?
Keep playin', kid! Many years from now you'll laugh about how little money you actually spent -- but how it seemed like so much at the time. Best of luck!
piss off. Guitar maker add tremendous value to raw wood and employ many people and create beautiful instrument and they waste nothing and a lifetime of production may not amount to much more than one big house. The environment can sustain that easily.
Spreading happiness. Definitely worked on me. Thank you, Jean!
Jean Thanks for bringing so much joy to some many. Life well lived.
Happy 80th! Thank you for your commitment and building great guitars!
Hey Jean I am your long lost cousin. Great job and many thanks for building the worlds best quality guitars. Happy 80th Birthday. Enjoy.

i bought lv-03 SP (sapele)- any comment on them, are they good ? or worse than mahagony ?
@@technicknb Driftwood. Burn it. Lol
When did you work there? Never bought beers when I worked there, except for Christmas party.
@@technicknb how'd you get on with it?
Thank you Jean.I fell in love with your OM-03R which has motivated me with it’s beautiful sound to keep playing and playing …………
Happy Birthday Jean!!🎉 I have 2 Larrivee’s and I love them!

Thanks for the kind words, Dave. I'll pass that along to Jean. - jr.
Happy 80th birthday Mr. Larrivee! I am a big fan of your guitars.
It's amazing the passion and love he put into his artworks!!!
Jean Larrivee has made me very happy! Thank you for my D-05. :-)
Happy 80th Birthday Jean! I love your guitars, and have four: a 6 string, 12 string, classical, and baritone.
Love your LV03! Thank you!
Just thank you. Your guitars are the best, no matter the model type.

A very humble man making fine guitars. I’m a proud owner and player of a Larrivee L-05 and can’t wait until my OM-09 arrives.
I have an LV-05. As I was playing it in the store trying to get a sound I liked out of it, my wife liked what *she* heard and bought it for me before I knew it. Thanks for the guitar Jean. The Larivee D-03 was my first acoustic guitar.Now,7 guitars later, it remains my favorite! :-)
Larrivee got my D-03R. Perfect guitar for me.
I love my LV03RE and I thank you Jean Larrivee from the bottom of my heart.
That's all I need to know. I'm heading to Long and Mcquade to buy one today. Thanks.
Tim, you will be a happy player bro.
I for one think Jean has his "recipe" perfected. Not a day goes by without playing my Larrivees. Thanks Jean and family.
Jean is one of my heros.

Thanks for all the guitars Jean.
Thank you , Sir! For these wonderful guitars!!!! I have a OM 03 - great!!
I just scooped a 1994 00-05. Barely played. Got my work cut out for me. Need to break it in.
Played my first Larrivée a few months ago. Best feeling I've ever experienced in a guitar. Been playing for 20 years, and just decided to save up some cash to get me a Larrivée of my own.
Greetings from Sweden!
I own a 2006 Larrivee D-03E best guitar I've ever bought. Re -fretted twice and still use it in the studio daily.
No you dont.

Have a D-09, as well as Martin, and recently Lowden...the Larrivee gets out the most! Great gigging guitar, Jean you are a star...
Would love a Lowden someday. I have a Larrivee.
Respect. I will buy 1 Larrivee guitar pretty soon.

Dude making the best guitars.... in the world.
I have been playing shows and recording with my lv-03 for almost five years. Great build guys.
You make the best and I know because I have one about a 1980 model made in Victoria
Seriously considering making my next guitar a Larrivee. Beautiful instruments! :)
