I wish there was a video about the change in necks in the 90’s. I’d like to know precisely what year did the change happen.
I had an OM-03r or OM-06r (I don’t recall exactly). It had a clear pickguard. I think it was a 96’. I know that there was a change in necks sometime in the 90’s. This one had a neck reminiscent of an electric. Wide but thin from a depth perspective. I loved that guitar and when some simpleton fell and pushed the back through a guitar stand it broke my heart. I could never look at it the same even if repaired. I bought a D-03R and it’s incredibly loud but it’s not like my OM. If I knew when the neck change happened and/or what models had that neck, I would buy one in a second.

Bought my first guitar back in 1997, it was a Larrivee OM-3R. Have almost 20 now (never sold one) and the Larrivee has appreciated 4x and is as sweet sounding now as it was then. I do keep it detuned to keep the neck straight.

I picked up a D-05 with a blend system in 2001 at a Music Store and had to have it! I just did a fret dressing and set up on it and it absolutely sounds remarkable. When you play it through a PA system and blend the under saddle pick up with the microphone it’s stunning!

I own several nice guitars but my Larrivee LV03 with the satin finish and the maple leaf inlays up the fingerboard and headstock is my favourite. Amazing sound and playability. And the label is signed by Jean Larrivee himself!

LV03 is so beautiful. They say there are guitars that inspire you to write music and the LV03 absolutely does that in the way it plays. Glad to see I'm not the only one who feels that way.

I went from a $35 to one day in 2006 being gifted with a Vancouver made OM-03R. After 16 years it’s still going strong and I will never part with it. It’s taken some hard knocks but your build quality is so good that it is still structurally sound.

This Larivee creed sounds like the company I worked for over a decade. A Japanese factory automation controls and robotics company FANUC. Their creed was GenMitsu, "Strict Preciseness".
I have owned a cedar top Larivee D-03 since the 90s. Best purchase I ever made, still plays great, sounds better with age.

The old Larrivee guitars are great with very high quality and brilliant QC right throughout the range. The recent ones are mass produced with very poor QC on anything below a L09. The 40 series guitars are very hit and miss - mostly miss. They sound good but you are nearly always going to need to trim the saddles and either file or build up the nut - which for most people will require the extra expense of a luthier.

I bought a “new” BC made Larrivee L09 about 15 years ago. Great guitar but parted ways with it for a Santa Cruz.
Years later, bought a California made D-60.
Returned it within 3 days. Something is off with the USA made guitars.

I’ve got one! I have a Larrivée LCJ-19 that I special-ordered in 1995. It’s jumbo cutaway with flame maple sides and back. I was after something like a J-200 with a cutaway, and Gibson wasn’t making anything like that at that time, so I went with Larrivée. It’s a great guitar, just an absolute cannon, but I’m primarily an electric player, so I had a pickup installed in it. When I took delivery of the guitar it was strictly acoustic, and I played it for about a week before taking it to a tech for the pickup installation. It’s an older (well, it was current then) Fishman setup with the preamp mounted in the side of the guitar. So I heard it both ways, without and with the preamp mounted, and noticed no difference either way in the acoustic tone. It still sounds better acoustcally than it does plugged in, but that’s often the case when trying to amplify an acoustic guitar. Despite being an electric player, I play the Larrivée acoustically more than I do amplified.

Great interview. Recently tried out a dozen different guitars. To make it as objective as possible, I recorded the same 2 songs on each guitar via my iPhone. One was strummed and one was picked.
The clear winner was the Larrivee OM-40. Of course the finger picking sounded great, but the amount of bass that comes out of the OM body was a delight.
So, I am a happy new Larrivee owner. And I am already thinking of who in my family I should pass it on to down the road. Xxx

I owned an older L series from back in the late 1970s which I loved, but wanted to build my 3d guitar but at the time (1994) couldn't afford the wood as I wanted really high grade. A friend of mine offered to buy me the materials if I gave him my Larrivee which I did but later regretted. Anyway, in 2006 I decided to buy a new L-09 which i still have. The older it gets the better it sounds. I now live in the Philippines and people here never heard of the brand but they really love the sound. Thank you Johnny 😊

Maybe a Presentation model. I love Larrivee's guitars.. I fingerstyle, but do use plectrum..

For what you are getting, a totally American made guitar made from solid tonewoods, yes they are affordable; more affordable than most other fully American made guitars--if not all of them. If you're interested in Larrivee pickup a used one off Reverb, you won't be sorry. Their lowest series, the 03 series guitars are prized by many players and ARE affordable for a completely solid wood guitar, and worth it.
