Making the Case for Reading Glasses

- My wife and I have reached the age where a little help with readers is becoming a reality...I've worn contacts for a long time, but haven't needed readers until recently. The ones we've purchased have been cheap ones and those don't come with a case like my regular glasses do so I thought I'd make one instead. I had a cut off from a Hemlock board that I couldn't bring myself to throw away that I decided to use. I think Hemlock is a beautiful wood...but don't often see things made with it. I have made a number of continuous grain boxes...but always with horizontal grain. I thought it would be fun to try one with the grain running vertically...I think it turned out nice. I was going to use Hemlock on the ends as well...but, in the end I decided to cap the box with some Cocobolo scrap that I had. Hope you enjoy this.

Hello my friend.
The most wonderful and natural glasses box I have ever seen. A very nice design. Fine Arts; are the things that human hand, head and heart work together. Congratulations. Thank you for sharing.
Take care of yourself. Healthy days. greetings...
Thank you so much, my friend...your words are always such and encouragement to me...I truly appreciate the support that you have shown me and my channel. Take care.
So many people do not understand how much skill it takes to make something like this And to have a continuous grain box makes it even more of a challange, you have to make sure and not cut the wrong piece. and install it in the correct direction. This is a project for skilled craftsmen such as your self, I can not do that and have it come out anywhere close to that quality-great video.
Thank you...that's kind of you to say...I've seen your work on the trailers though...you definitely got the all the skills to pull this off.
Who would have thought that a glasses-box vid could be so mesmerizingly beautiful? Very nice work Stan and a really super vid, excellent pictures and editing, and such suitable music. Good job mate.
Thank you so much, Mark...really kind of you to say. Isn't it fun when you can add a little beauty to something that is normally taken for granted? Thanks for all of your support. BTW, looking to rebook our Ireland trip for next year...will keep you posted!
Stan, we so... enjoy watching your videos. the precision and craftsmanship is incredible. I really love the contrast in color of the woods you selected. Yet another thoroughly enjoyable video! Keep 'em coming!
Thanks, Richard...I built a wall cabinet out of that hemlock board years ago and kept that scrap because I thought the grain looked too good to burn...glad I did!
Beautiful work, Stan! 👍👍👍👍
Thank you very much, David... I consider you such a great craftsman...that means a lot to me
I absolutely love this, a very slick finished product! That table saw jig was a great build too, what a time saver! Good work as always man, thanks for sharing 👍
Thanks so much...yeah...now that I have the jig I keep finding ways to use it.
Hi Stan ! Beautifully executed ! And I have to say the video was a pleasure to watch !
Thank you very much, Lewis... I really appreciate the comment.
Beautiful work, Stan! You always bring the precision to your projects!
Thank you, Brent...having a good sled definitely makes the precision a little easier! I envy the guys that do this kind of work by hand.
Nicely done! Case looks great. Really enjoyed the music, relaxing watch! 😊
Awww...thank you, Kirstie!
Nice and tidy build, that sled you made is earning its worth.
Thanks, Shaun...funny all the ideas that I’m getting now that I’ve got the sled...it does a good job of making precision work
Beautifully crafted. Also love the artwork of the video! 👍
Thanks so much!
Now Stan, that is real fine woodworking. Well done. Good to see you keeping well.
Thank you so much, Pascal...thank goodness for shops in times like these!
Sweet build Stan and nice choice of wood! Love the video and the music flows very nicely
Thank you, Harki...you know, I've always really liked Hemlock...I think it's beautiful...but, I think it's mostly sold in big box stores and ends up painted.
Hi Stan, That is fantastic. There is some seriously accurate table sawing needed to make this. Great work. Cheers, Huw
Thank you, Huw...I am finding more and more ways to use the little table saw sled...it's been fun to see what I can do with it.
I actually need to make a new sunglasses case and this is great inspiration on what can be done. Not sure I have your talents, but I can work towards something similar! Thanks for sharing Stan, you work is always awesome!
Thanks so much, Grant...glad to provide a little inspiration back to you...you've got loads of talent...give it a go!
Wow perfect and creative craft for glasses
Thank you very much...my wife is pleased...I guess that’s what matters most
Great video my man! Your skills on that table saw is amazing 🤙🏻
Thanks...I’m don’t know that I’m that good on the table saw...just have handy jigs 😊
Really enjoyed the video!! Beautiful work
Thank you so much...I really appreciate that.
Simply beautiful! I'd love to have something like this for my glasses.
Well then...go ahead and make a case! If I can make one I know you could too.
@@StanCrafted When we do, this will be the tutorial we use!!
Wow.. wonderful.. thank you for your sharing, like💕
Thank you so much! I’m glad you like it.
Good stuff. That case has a little character to it.
Thank you, Mike... I do like the way it turned out.
Excellent work! I'm still claiming that I can see just fine so no need to make one of these just yet!😉
Thank you...Oh, how I wish the same were true for me...darn you 50!
Great video beautiful work! 👍👍
Thanks so much, Sparky!
it's a highly precision job stan. I like it so much. I also liked how you performed those long mitre cut on the sled. I was making a project with the same isse and did not think about that solution.
Thank you very much, Alberto...I've been thinking of making a continuous grain box with the grain running vertical instead of horizontal for a while...but, didn't really have a project in mind that it would fit until now...I like the way that it turned out. Thanks for all of your support over the last year...it has meant a lot to me.
Top notch work Stan!
Thank you, sir!
It is useful not to hurt and lose glasses. Thanks for useful tips and detailed information. 👍👍👍
Thank you so much...I really appreciate that.
@@StanCrafted You're welcome. Take care.
Nicely done sir!
Thank you, Andy!
Hemlock was a nice choice of wood! I pray that I will never have to wear glasses!
Thank you...I really like Hemlock too, but don't see a lot of builds with it. I hope you never need glasses either...it's really not that fun.
Well done, fun video!
Thank you so much!
Thanks for sharing.. nice video..💕
Thank you...that’s very kind of you 😊
This is awesome, I had a project on my list like this to hold playing cards!
That is an awesome idea...I may have to get back out in the shop and give it another go!
@@StanCrafted I'm probably going to attempt one soon since I have some plans that includes thinner wood.
Beautiful case, the hemlock looks really nice
Thanks so much...I like Hemlock a lot...although I don’t see it used much
@@StanCrafted yes i've only heard about it a couple of times, where can you get it?
@@MakerCuisine I picked that up at Home Depot years ago to build a little wall cabinet. It was a lot cheaper back then.
@@StanCrafted I bet
Great work 👍👌
