@@billgardner4660 what a wonderful interview. As someone who experienced homelessness and mental health problems when I was younger, it’s so good to hear someone like yourself, respected and genuine, talk about those things. Many thanks and much appreciated.
Brilliant interview, total respect. I'm man city but like a lot of other blues have a lot of respect for hammers fans stretching back over the decades. Stay safe Bill.
Proper human being. Loyal, honest, brave. This is the type of man you want as a friend. Whatever about his fighting abilities his decency shines through. Respect from Ireland.
Bills friend and next door neighbour for years, well respected and genuine family man, worked with him many times had me in stitches of laughter everytime , nice bloke with a big heart, West ham through and through.

Been going to games on the same coach as Bill for a few years now. One of the most decent and respectful gentlemen you could ever meet. A top man in every respect.
Respect to big Bill from a Belfast Glasgow Celtic supporter. Following my team has given me tremendous highs and lows over 36 years. Just like Bill with the Hammers. But the best thing about this video is the man himself. Most of the hard men I've met in my life have a soft side and a bit of decency. Just like Bill. Great video.
Hi, this is Abe "Mozza" Atchia, co-author with Bill of his forthcoming book. First off, my sincere thoughts, prayers and best wishes to everyone at this difficult time. God bless our NHS. 99.9% of the comments here speak for themselves. Thank you. Bill's forthcoming book isn't intended to be the standard "we went here and had a row, then went there and had another one." It is, however, the definitive life-story of British football's most notorious terrace figure. His standing is endorsed by a who's who of top 'faces', from a time when football violence was at it's most savage. Contributions are also included from two former Premier League players, as well as a decorated British serviceman, who cites Bill's words ringing in his ears during a fire-fight in Bosnia. But it's essentially the story of how Bill went from a vulnerable, bullied, working class, east-end kid, to a terrace icon, whose name became known across Britain and beyond, and every shocking twist and turn along the way. Documenting Bill's life opens up a world of painful memories and disturbing violence. Some of the truly shocking moments of that life-story, which could not be included in this superb video (big shout Kev!), are also detailed, as Bill wipes the slate clean for the final time, settling a few old scores along the way with brutal honesty. As he says in an earlier post, we're aiming for the bookshelves and all e-formats by next Summer. Cheers for taking the time to read this post, for your comments and your shares, All the best and stay safe, Mozza

I knew the name back in the day, but only got to meet Bill in the flesh in recent years, travelling on the Hornchurch Coach with him to a few away days, and on the Thames on the boat trips, and I consider it an honour and privilege to have met him. He is a gentleman and a scholar, which won't fit the image many may have of him. Upmost respect for Mr West Ham; our number fan. Long live oneiron.

I've lived and loved football throughout my life but here's what I've discovered in life. Football Is meant to help us by encouraging us to fight and win our battles. We can't get stuck on the terraces 7 days a week. We must win our Monday to Friday battles and use the battles on the pitch on a Saturday to inspire us in the week.
Honest, hard and well respected. Always been good to fellow West Ham fans and that's why he is loved so much by us all. Can't wait to read the book ... he's the Original Top Lad!!!

All respect to Bill, and those who lived the life back in the day. As a Man City fan at the time he's talking about, this was my life too. As a result, I had my eighteenth birthday in Strangeways prison (GBH, ABH, Wounding). Never a villain, it was all about the people, the beer, and the battle. A different time and a different mentality. Unlike Bill, luckily I did find my way in life, funny enough, through more fighting! Anyone interested, have a read of 'Redemption - a street fighters path to peace.' I was never a 'name', but I 'was' there...walking the walk, not just talking the talk. Looking forward to a great read when I get your book Bill.
Hello Bill, Cracking story mate its amazing you turned out as well as you have done, havin' gone through all the shit you did growing up. Anyway good luck mate wishing you all the best and a happy life. From a Gooner who knows. 😊 Ps as a kid who found a home on the North Bank in 69, names like Johnny Hoy, Eccles, Babsey and Bill Gardner etc became terrace legends.
An absolutely fantastic interview with a truly amazing individual. Bill comes across as such a humble person but I bet his friends wouldn’t swap him for all the tea in China. I say this as someone who drank in Canning Town for a good number of years. Hibs & West Ham.
One excellent interview . I have often said about people who judge others . Try & walk a mile in their shoes . Before casting aspersions . Despite all the hardships Bill has endured . He has always remained humble . I wish Bill & his family all the very best . And it’s great to hear he has love & happiness finally in his life .
I like good people and I recognize this Geezer as a good one,I know loads of so called West Ham fans gloating over their new ground and how the club have had it right off, when you see a proper fan getting emotional about what he’s leaving behind and it ain’t ever coming back, you realize how similar we are and I’m 45years a Millwall fan. God bless you Bill Gardner
Cunts that talk about the Shithole, never did the UP. I had a season ticket from 1982-til RIP Upton Park. Started in the South Bank non season ticket, then the Run season ticket , the West Side lower. Done over 700 games home and away. I had much joy at your old gaff on more than occasion. Any way I used to run with the firm and we were good but stood together. You and J F Troop held your hands up. So I’m blithering he was different class.
Been a West Ham fan all my life and was hugely impressed with the quality of the interview and of the man. Shall be putting in my order for the book and generally avoid the football hooligan/Danny Dire bullshit books. Top man.
To be honest I put off watching this film, I've heard all the stories of Bill and had made my mind up. However I've got to say I was completely wrong. No BS, just a fascinating story from a man you could sit with and chat. I for one will now be buying his book as I believe it will be a fantastic read.
I went to many games in the 70s and saw a lot of stuff but kept away from the trouble. I can remember being in the North Bank and seeing away fans in the South Bank make some noise and up would go the chant “Mile End, Mile End do your job, Mile End do your job” and seeing West Ham take Arsenal’s North Bank and sing “Bubbles” and “ We took the North Bank Highbury again” from their end……amazing times and memories. Respect Bill.
As a Millwall fan who came across Bill Gardner on more than 1 occassion I didnt want to like the man as much as I do after hearing this video. We were very aware of him at Millwall is all I will say. Thats a major compliment. I was at Harry Ctipps testimonial but I was only a kid and it really was terryfying and full of hatred but I saw the older lads going at it. Never seen anything like it at any other football match.
As another human I relate to you I spent thirty years of my life selling badges hats and scarves on green street , next Pete Hilton later Ellis , and next to Gary . You are so right the people are unbelievable and I come from Bradford , I can't visit Upton park as I don't know if I could handle it , knowing all the happy times I had there. You are a special person and I don't want that to sound condescending but I always felt the respect people had for you . Stay lucky and a massive respect from me .
I had my childhood stolen , something that is the most precious thing, I’m envious when I remember the kids who had good upbringings , but it made me a good dad .
I have the utmost respect for you, Bill. Your story is told honestly, intelligently and there is never a dull moment. May you live a long and happy retirement.
Hi all, As Bill has already stated, I’m delighted to say his new book will be released next month. It’s been a few years in the making but I’m happy to say we got there! ‘Bill Gardner: The Man, The Myth, The Legend’ is slightly less focused on terrace culture and more on how a 14-year-old Essex kid became the man he did. It was, as the book reveals, a painful, traumatic and at times dangerous journey. Fighting men twice his age for money in Gypsy organised bareknuckle pit-fights at 15 years of age is probably one of the least shocking chapters of Bill’s life, on the way to becoming, in the eyes of many I’ve spoken to, a part of West Ham United’s fabric and history. A host of Bill’s friends have generously paid their own tributes and reminisces of Bill. These include, in no particular order: Big Ted, Cass Pennant, Bunter Marks, Danny Brown (Aston Villa), Frank McAvennie, Corporal “Peterborough Tony”, Carlton Leach, Gary “Boatsy” Clark (Nottingham Forest), Stuart Slater, Joey Williams, John Wraith (QPR), Lol, Scobie and Neil. Desperately trying not to sound sanctimonious, and with the obvious, ultimate input and honesty of Bill taken as read, the book couldn’t and wouldn’t have been written without the help, support and time of all those listed above. Look out for an exclusive interview with Bill in GHQ Magazine next month, while Kevin Slade of SDCC has a further RUclips advert in the pipeline. The book is with the publishers and will be available on Amazon and Kindle Unlimited in both eBook AND traditional book formats on November 18. Thanks very much for taking the time to read this ridiculously long post, and once again many thanks for your comments, shares, likes and re-tweets - to say we’re grateful don’t cover it so do keep them coming! All the best, and do all stay safe in these continually difficult times, Best wishes, Abe “Mozza “ Atchia Co- Author “Bill Gardner: The Man, The Myth, The Legend”
Wow. That was a deep interview. Excellent viewing. Mr Gardiner has had a tough life but he's come out the other end from what I can see as a very decent, emphatic and thoughtful man. Thanks for the upload.

Proper hammer. Talking about when football was football. When fans meant something to a their club. Now it's just a business and us fans employees. Bill is what football should be all about. Now it's showbusiness unfortunately. He's a dying breed. Mcfc
Never met him but heard all about him from being a football lad in 80s really moving and honest interview with more people where like him respect from cardiff
What a top bloke he is so genuine and honest .Suffered in his life and loves the club, he supports obviously a top lad with huge respect and well-deserved .
Interesting listen and a lot of the hardships resonate with me and many friends of mine. Your name and WHU reputation carried all the way up here. Us Jocks more than held our own at football but when the “casual” era began England led the way. I know you said it wasn’t your thing but a couple of WHU lads came to Ibrox 83/4 ish told us about the ICF and that was us. Hooked. Shamelessly copied the name and off we went haha. You seem a proper gentleman (though I doubt that was the view of your opposition haha) Wasn’t easy going to football but I think most of us needed it. Wherever we came from. Respect and take care. Glasgow Rangers
One thing you got wrong Bill when saying there is good and bad people. No way is the man I just watched - showing strength but even more compassion - in the middle! A good man without question. Southend United.
Bill you are quite an inspiration to us old school boys no matter the colour of our Jersey. I can see so many of us can relate one way or another in the story you tell. Bill, you are a super chap & I know you say it feels like the problems you've had made you unable to find what it is you are destined to do but rest-assured, many, many, many people have that same experience & those that say they don't are merely fronting up. It's part of being human & is a perfectly normal thing to feel. You are a well-spoken, unassuming, very genuine, likeable guy.
Bill, I remember you in the mid 70s, I travelled pretty much every game from Leicester to watch west ham, home and away, and was still at it in the late 90's, I'm 55 now and definitely have claret and blue blood, I have fantastic memories from the good old days, looking forward to the book, All the very best,
Well done Bill, you say it straight. This is a proper West Ham supporter who deserves a lot more than what this board is doing to our precious club.I hope you live long enough to see West Ham shine, where they belong.
Excellent portrayal of his own life/ experiences/ trials & tribulations/ love’s/ emotions & a way of looking at existence for many football fans up & down the country. Bill’s are his own and rightfully respected due to the honest, truthful, sometimes brutal description he has put across, really enjoyed it & some home truths hit home for many out here. Well done Bill, looking forward to the book now, keep enjoying life your way, you deserve it. MOT 👏🏻

Well said mate from an old school hammer, respect to millwall too.
what a lovely bloke! enjoyed that a lot. Respect to ya Bill.
Utterly Butterly or Clover?
What a man, a true leader and an honourable fellow at that. A legend for us in the West Ham family. Thanks for sharing Bill. #COYI
Could listen to Bill all night. Respect from the Holte End.
Really enjoyed listening to Bill. An honourable gentleman.
This guys honesty is admirable. You can tell hes hard as nails but also shows his vulnerability. Big respect 👏🙏
For all the kids nowadays going to football...This is what a true terrace legend looks and sounds like..take note.👍🏻🇬🇧..Respect Bill.
You don't hear ppl talk like this anymore. Genuine honest loyal. Back in a day when you was taught to respect.. Big up pal
a true gent who has the respect of so many west ham fans old and young
Bill seems like a nice genuine bloke. Very likeable and honest. I wish him well.
A true fan and also a true gentleman
Mr Gardner I so enjoyed watching this, i know of you from the football but you are a whole package. what a lovely bloke you are. Thanks for doing this
I had my childhood stolen , something that is the most precious thing, I’m envious when I remember the kids who had good upbringings , but it made me a good dad .
I have the utmost respect for you, Bill. Your story is told honestly, intelligently and there is never a dull moment. May you live a long and happy retirement.
Bill, your life has been incredibly hard but despite that you come cross as a really nice Man.....you have my respect mate ..go easy 👍
Hi all,
As Bill has already stated, I’m delighted to say his new book will be released next month.
All the best, and do all stay safe in these continually difficult times,
Best wishes,
Abe “Mozza “ Atchia
Co- Author “Bill Gardner: The Man, The Myth, The Legend”
I have mine mate, thanks Abe.
this is so emotional, thanks Bill, God bless all West Ham supporters ,COYI
One of the best things ive watched in years ! Looking forward to the proper read! All The Best Bill.
Wow......what a truthful, sad and emotional interview! Respect to you Bill, and looking forward to buying your book.
Wow. That was a deep interview. Excellent viewing. Mr Gardiner has had a tough life but he's come out the other end from what I can see as a very decent, emphatic and thoughtful man. Thanks for the upload.
Enjoyed this. Proper old school football fan. Obviously loves his club.
Respect Bill.
I'm not the slightest bit interested in football, but to listen to this man's story is very interesting.
Definitely seen Bill in a different light after this interview. Comes across as a very genuine bloke. Good luck to you Bill
I was a barnardos boy born in lambeth,,and can relate to so much of what bill has said im 58 now i ve been a chelsea fan since i was 8 so who knows we prob met up in tne old days good luck to you bill ,,,David Webster Norfolk
Proper hammer.
Talking about when football was football.
When fans meant something to a their club.
Now it's just a business and us fans employees.
Bill is what football should be all about.
Now it's showbusiness unfortunately.
He's a dying breed.
Mcfc
You do still get games that are problematic for the police. Leeds v Man U, Aberdeen v Rangers
100% respect to a top top bloke from n old Boro lad from the 70s and 80s
Never met him but heard all about him from being a football lad in 80s really moving and honest interview with more people where like him respect from cardiff
A true legend in every sense respect to you Bill from a Liverpool fan
Nice one pal.. Respect to you Rangers lads
One thing you got wrong Bill when saying there is good and bad people. No way is the man I just watched - showing strength but even more compassion - in the middle! A good man without question.
Southend United.
What a sympathetic and honest man. Respect from Germany 👍🏻
Bill you are quite an inspiration to us old school boys no matter the colour of our Jersey. I can see so many of us can relate one way or another in the story you tell. Thanks for being so open I can't wait to read your book, best interview I've ever watched. much love and respect from the clock end. AFC

Hello Bill, what’s your new book called?👍⚒
Bill, I remember you in the mid 70s, I travelled pretty much every game from Leicester to watch west ham, home and away, and was still at it in the late 90's, I'm 55 now and definitely have claret and blue blood, I have fantastic memories from the good old days, looking forward to the book, All the very best,
Respect Mick !
Mick richardson from countesthorpe?

Great interview, as you say Bill, win , lose or draw, its all about the people.
Well done Bill, you say it straight. This is a proper West Ham supporter who deserves a lot more than what this board is doing to our precious club.I hope you live long enough to see West Ham shine, where they belong.
Never meet this fellow but what a Gentleman ! Good luck Bill 👍
MOT 👏🏻
Bill and i have the same upbringing, I am from Romford but went to school in Hornchurch,i was beaten abused and hated by my mother,Its taken me 45 years to become what i am today and have my own business..... I am a Hammer through and through, but Bill is on another higher level to me! What a MAN a proper MAN in every sense of the word, firm but fucking very fair,HERO is the only way to describe this MAN!
Respect from a Bedford gooner living in new Zealand.
What a lovely bloke. All I'd ever read, or seen in movies was this right 'orrible bastard. So glad I've seen the genuine Bill Gardner. Peace and love, brother.✌💜
