@@paulmacartney8266 of course it doesn't make sense. But that's the legacy that the founding fathers left for America, as every ultra conservative, and red neck hillbilly actually believe that their constitutional rights are inalienable, and come straight from God, himself. I don't know which God they were referring to, because it sure wasn't the God of Abraham and the New testament. Neither Jesus nor the apostles championed anything resembling constitutional rights. Paul took advantage of his rights as a Roman citizen to seek audience with the senate in order to air his grievances over the persecution of the church, but that's far from the same thing as championing rights as something 'God-given'. @@NYRyder1983I love this movie, but yeah I found this weird. At least in the first movie nobody had seen what was about to happen, so the mayor being confused makes sense. Here, after he saw the Ghostbusters save the day once (and effectively prove themselves after the courtroom scene), he doubts them and doesn’t listen to him here?
“Does anybody speak English here?” The way how Lenny asks that question sure sounds a thousand times better than saying a simple “I don’t understand a word you are saying. Could you please explain more clearly?”
He eventually had a change of heart after learning of what Hardermeyer did to the Ghostbusters, which caused him to fire Hardermeyer. He admitted that he let New York "get sucked down into the 10th level of Hell."
It’s possible he was also being affected by the slime, as Winston said just touching it enraged them so it probably enhances negative emotions in minor ways.
Lenny's reelection for mayor and future bid for governor could have been compromised if he continued to support the GB's after paranormal activity calmed down. It was a political move and not personal as I get the feeling he still, privately, believed. Having people like Hardemeyer around only reinforced this course of action but a little quality time with the ghost of Fiorello La Guardia changed that. He also considered the GB's a last resort when he said: "We've got no choice, call the Ghostbusters." At the end of the day, he's a politician trying to be pragmatic under abnormal circumstances. At least he publicly thanked and awarded them the key to the city in the end.
Instead of going to the press, the GB's should have geared up and gone directly to the museum. With no slime shell or Oscar in hand, Vigo would have been more vulnerable. Hardemeyer shipping them off to the nervous hospital allowed Vigo to keep his plan on track just as Peck shutting down the ECU allowed Gozer to invade sooner.
How does the mayor or anyone for that matter disbelieve the Ghostbusters after the events of the first movie? Seriously, at that point it should be give them whatever they want they want ghosts are real.

I love that little detail with Ray helping himself to the mayor's cigars while in the middle of the slime issue. Pretty funny
