It's FAST now! This Castle Sidewinder 3 with 5700kv motor should be faster than a VXL 3500kv from Traxxas, and it costs way less, bonus it's a sensored motor. ESC fan is going on it ASAP, and maybe some motor heatsinks. LIKES help my videos get discovered and suggested to others. I originally threw a CC 1410-3800kv SCT combo in mine but recently upgraded to the 1406 5700kv motor. I've got the SCT ESC (built in fan) with the 1406 5700kv motor (with 3800 cooling fan installed) running a 29 tooth pinion with the 70 tooth spur. I clocked it at 46 mph on 2S and measured motor temps at about 125, ESC at about 115 and battery in the 90s after about 10 minutes of heavy stop and go driving.
I got the ESC fan now, but can you get the motor fan separately? I was looking at how to get motor cooling on there but it's going to need a shroud since the wires are in the way.
This is the one that came with my SCT combo. I had to trim a few of the tabs since the 1406 can is shorter than the 1410 and the motor wires come out along the can length instead of straight up, but it fits. I just plugged it into channel 4 or 5 on the receiver and it's good to go. www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXAPNY&P=ML
You make soldering those trx connectors look so easy. I always messed them up. My favorites were ec3 and ec5. I just drilled small holes in a wood block to stand the brass connections up in and then filled them with solder, stuck my wire in and then remove the heat, and bam done
Try a heat sink fan and esc fan you won’t over heat. That gt body needs a vent as well. Put this system on my 2wd rustler oh gosh it’s definitely a keeper
Motor and esc fans are a must. Especially on That ESC. They really should just include it out of the box but I have one on mine and I haven’t hit thermal shutdown yet. No motor fan for now but considering it
drifting with soft rubber tires like that is gonna pull a lot of amps, if you use a harder compound tire you can drift easier and put less stress on the esc&motor ;)
+705 Toys yeah it does! Tires will be needed more often for sure! Even with them turning into slicks hopefully they'll hold together a bit longer. The VXL rated tire set is not available yet.
I wouldn't run a 28 tooth with that sidewinder set up somewhere between 20 and 25 max but that's just my opinion it's good to see the thermal protection worked though sometimes I've notice with a few good brands including castle they've failed me
This makes me want to slap on my old cassle motor onto my snapon 4tec edition! Just wondering what gearing to go with, i heard if you go smaller gearing on the motor, you have to go bigger on the shaft??
Only if it won’t mesh with the smaller pinion. I’m on a stock spur but I started on brushed 4TEC. As far as I know the VXL 4TECs use a smaller spur gear.
@@netcruzer oh okay thanks for the info! My snapon edition also came with a brushed motor, i dont remember what motor pinion i have for my cassle motor though..
IM RINNING THE SAME SYSTEM IN MY SPRINT2,,,,AAAND I WANNA UPGRADE TO THIS NEWER EDITION(AAND THAT WAY I CAN MAKE MY BOAT BRUSHLESS ORR MY SUMMIT?? ORR DOES IT NOT MAKE THAT MUCH OF A DIFFERENCE,,,,,? THANKS ALOT GUYS
Looking good but something sounds really rough. Is the gear mesh set up perfectly? Or is that what the castle motor sounds like? Only time my Rustler got that loud was when both motor bearings failed.
Sensors dont have voltage, so as long as you connect the sensor cables while its dry it wont matter. Im more surprised to see the esc cables being soldered so close together on a waterproof motor without a cover

Netcruzer RC TECH CARS were you running a 25c battery? Because castle recommends 35c.
How big is that ford
Netcruzer RC TECH CARS you could just throw a fan on the wax and motor, that’s what I did and it brought my 4 tec’s temp by 20-30 degrees
Michael Weikal I run 55c and it does just fine
Would the 5700 be faster then the 2400kv?

Add some fans for the esc/motor . It's a must

Got mine on drag setup 5700kv on 4s lol stupid fast nice video very nice walk through
deshone walton does it handle 4s ok? I was thinking of running 5s with mine for speed runs but don't want to burn it up.
When I got my sidewinder, those tiretreads were gone within weeks with bare usage

SW4 now includes a fan
true. though they do still sell the 3 as a more budget model@@netcruzer

Woah fast! Thanks for sharing!
nice video great upgrade...very hot for the first run
yea, ive had issues with those combos just like the valenion combos. ill burn my valenion system out then put in the momba max pro. good luck
Velineon
And Mamba, sheesh..
Nice video!!!Like you said it's very fast!!!The 2cell is very strong! But try out the 3cell!!!You will be surprised!!!
Man, that works amazing! Looks like you cooked your tires in about 5 mins!
+705 Toys yeah it does! Tires will be needed more often for sure! Even with them turning into slicks hopefully they'll hold together a bit longer. The VXL rated tire set is not available yet.
Netcruzer RC TECH CARS I am running foams on mine.
Nice Video great upgrade

Now that I have a fan on the Sidewinder ESC it's been great with no thermal shutdowns since. I kept 28 tooth on it. See my speedrun video! It flies!
Can u please post the skew # of the kit . Thanks .
kV isn`t "kilo volt" lol, it`s turns per volt, the V is rpm basically.
1000kV=1000rpm per volt..
Just a little FYI for those who may not know..
That's 5.700.000 Volt!
I have a question for you is a sidewinder brushless ESC compatible with jrc racing xr2 receiver I have the castle 3800 KV set up
My 8s X-Maxx has that plug in the receiver box so u can hit the link button. I really like that. The car is nice bro.
I help driftomanics with some of his videos the ford gt that he has been run an I hope u will have fun with ur gt I am try to hit 100 mph with mine
+Ryan Bull yeah I want to get driving mine more and gps some speedruns. 100mph in this little car is bonkers!

Did you gear down or end up running fans?

Is a sensored some kind of stepper motor??
Looking good but something sounds really rough. Is the gear mesh set up perfectly? Or is that what the castle motor sounds like? Only time my Rustler got that loud was when both motor bearings failed.
PocketWow i have a castle system in my slash 4x4 and it does sound rough even when the gear mesh Is set properly and Is lubricated.
Er, kv =/= kilovolt, kv is the number of revolutions(k) per volt(v), sorry that bugged me but I am inspired by your upgrades, thanks for the vid!
What did I say? It’s RPM per 1 volt isn’t it? So a 5700kv at 11v is 62,700 RPM
Hey, I have this same motor and also have the same over heating problem, how will gearing down the pinion help with over heating?
Yes
Its like a bike with gears, the smaller the gear is where the power is coming from, the less stress it is to move it.
Nice!
Hi so with this motor you didnt use the 28T no more because of the overheating?? How is it with the 25?
+Albert Dinh still have 28T. I got an ESC fan and will add some motor cooling soon.
hows the handling?...ur version doesnt come with tsm right?...wondering how those would combo together
My car has TSM. Ford GT does, Mustang GT does not. TSM works fine, watch how I drift around myself so smooth.. without it I would have spun out.
Cool

Mod 1 20 tooth and a (wtf) high speed fan and it smokes every Traxxas I own!! Runs ice cold
Do 26t pinion
if some one have not noticed, the upgrade to brushless system, and his rubber tyre tread are gone, this car eat tyres, my personal experience
You a fellow canadian? I saw the great hobbies deans connector and I was curious.
SpudsTheBinky yup I am.
Can u not put some fans on it? And maybe lighten up on the trigger a little. Lol
Nice video I just got done building my 4 tec roller last night check out my page I made your 26 👍🏾
👍👍👊👊📹📹
