- The Keighley & Worth Valley Railways steam gala 2023.
The combination of Steam and snow created some very atmospheric scenes across the Worth Valley. With heavy snow falling on the Thursday a couple of the shots did get snow on the lense but I’ve included them anyway. There was heavy snowfall over night into Friday followed by a day of clear skies from around 10:30-11:00 onwards.

Awesome!!!
The right kinda snow. :-)
Very atmospheric! Thank you
I have just picked this film up and what a truly remarkable record it is. The clarity of the camera work could not be bettered not least because of the various carefully chosen sites for the filming. The sights and sounds are quite superb added to by the atmospheric snowy conditions. This took me back to my childhood and then some. A thoroughly brilliant watch. Thank you for the effort put in and the equally brilliant work of the KWVR. Now I must watch it all over again.
Brilliant 👍
Stunning photography. It looked like the early 1960's. The KWVR always put on a good show. Thank you.
Some excellent steam footage here, well done!
Luke, you must be very proud of that incredible production. It's a lovely railway and so enhanced in the snow which you braved superbly without a single station shot lol. I guess the weather deterred lesser mortals so its a 10/10 for me mate, well done.
Regards, Brian.👌
A big thank you for freezing your bits off to bring us this professional-quality video. Highly watchable and much appreciated.
This is some of the best camera work I have seen - peaceful and lovely lines, well done! You spent time stood in the snow to get the best locomotive doubles and the effect is wonderful. Double Jubilee and double Black 5, rarely to be seen and in that snow setting possibly never again, and you captured some majestic exhaust sounds. Thank you.
OMG amazing! Perfect weather!
For me this is the most photogenic and picturesque of the preserved railways. It provides great natural backdrops, old town, and industrial all at one location along with tunnels, bridges and gradients, its a win win. Not to mention superb stations and equipment. Its all this no matter the season and this snowy day shows how nice it can be in winter. Says alot for those who chose to save this line, those who have managed it and those who have worked on it all these years and continue to do so. Excellent filming btw and thanks for sharing this step back to a better time. That night scene with the train passing by was incredible could have been the 1930s! The K&WVR seems to have been lucky to be placed as excellent time machine of old industrial England more than anywhere else in the Rail preservation movement only automobiles scar a scene to the present day or someone in modern clothes if they get in a scene.
Great filming there Luke.
Cheers paul
I’ve just caught Scot’s guardsman for the first time ever at earlswood station today
Brrrr! Great video..
Super video! 👍🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃
Absolutely first class! The weather conditions almost turn this into an old black and white video, perfect for the age of steam.
Really good video I was on the trains on Thursday looking out at you dedicated people standing out in the cold and snow to bring us shots like these. Friday was a lot better with the bright sun and blue skies. A gala to remember for sure
What an excellent video ! Some truly splendid scenes, especially with the snow !
Many thanks!
Great Video Mate I hope I visit the Keighley and Worth Valley Some day.
It’s a lovely place. Well worth a visit luke
Brilliant video, so full of atmosphere. Thank you for posting this 👍🏻🚂😀
Great video as always Luke. Regards, Jake.
Brilliant to see such excellent shots of hard working locos and so well driven in challenging conditions!
Excellent video. Very atmospheric.
Wonderful video :)
nice weather, ideal for steam locomotive shots. hopefully the cameraman was dressed warmly...😊
I made sure to wear extra layers
Good stuff, I admire your commitment, staying out filming in those conditions. I thought the night scene at Haworth was particularly evocative.
Thank you.
Reminded me of Crewe North on a Sunday.
Absolute banger, piano stimmed so hard that I’ve ceased up
Magnificent filming. Excellent.
Some brilliant scenes in here, thanks for capturing!
Luke, Unpleasant weather conditions but a mighty fine video with a superb finale. Regards, John
Excellent video, and the weather was the icing on the cake!
Nice action, sadly I could only make the Thursday and gutted couldn't attend on another day for some other opportunities. This will be a Steam Gala to remember.
Brave man in that weather. Superb video, well done 🥶✨️
Absolutely stunning video. Thanks for filming in those conditions.
Cool👍
Amazing stuff man! I've got tomorrow before I edit and post my stuff but been there all 3 days, in the thick of the snow and blustery winds! Awesome video
Thanks Matthew. If I’d known you were around I’d have come and said hello. I’ll keep my eyes peeled for when your video goes up.
Oh for the days when one had steam heating and could turn the little handle over to increase the warmth! The branch was planned for double track and was possibly intended to join with the L&YR at Colne or Hebden Bridge.
Brilliant, and at least your railway workers don't go on strike!
hope the coach steam heating is working ok!
During winter journeys from Birmingham New Street to Darlington via Derby and Sheffield perhaps changing at York you often had frozen pipes and no heating. I'd be in short trousers and everyone thought it appropriate for me to stand so adults could sit. Returns from Newcastle were just as cold yet now I'm quite nostalgic about it all. Thanks, you've heard of muscle memory no doubt, well I can nose remember the smell and heat when locos passed below the bridges that
I leaned over. Magic.
Brilliant stuff, really enjoyed that! Wonderful scenes although there was something about that night scene on shed!
Thank you
Outstanding video, just a pity that leander isn't in BR Green. The owner is adhereing to his father's wishes though surely the time has come? Jubilee's are beautiful looking locomotives and perhaps, with the single chimney Castles look so impressive (My Opinion)
Is 45596 in black?
No it’s 45690 Leander that’s in BR black
