  • The video portrays the 4 day Spring Steam Gala of the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway, (KWVR), held in March 2023. It shows gala operations along the line from Keighley to Oxenhope and return to Ingrow West as the weather changed from heavy snow to sunshine and thaw.
The snowy weather and steam engines together conspired to deliver a magical scene for all who attended to enjoy.
Some of the line's history, features and usage are mentioned as we work our way along the line and the many preserved steam locos and volunteers work hard.
Hopefully the video will encourage more people to visit and enjoy the villages of the beautiful Worth Valley situated in Yorkshire, UK, and to use its wonderful heritage railway line.
    Please feel free to comment.

Thank you, Sir! This is an excellent video: very well produced. The weather, both the snowy days and the sunny day, made for very nice effects and background. The locomotives and coaches looked BEAUTIFUL! The volunteers must have worked very hard! Your videography was excellent. I very much enjoyed your narration. The narration and the on-screen notes were very informative, and made your excellent video even more enjoyable. Again, Thank You, Sir!

Loved this video! Loved the sounds which you captured quite well. In my opinion the steam era was the peak of railroad glory. There was a beauty and an elegance to it all that today's 'modern' style just doesn't match. I'm SO glad to see there are people who still value this era's style, and volunteer to keep it alive and well!

    • @atlantaman

I’m most pleased you enjoyed the video and thank you for your kind words. Regardless of how much technology has changed the passengers’ ride and comfort, I fully agree with you that the steam era’s beauty and elegance have been left behind: but not lost, thanks to the many selfless volunteers with whom we are blessed. But, obviously, without passengers and visitors, funding for maintenance, restoration and operation would be gone. And, the patent pleasure and enjoyment they experience no doubt reward the volunteers, letting them know their efforts are appreciated and worthwhile: which they are.

Thanks a million for your wonderful and very informative film. It all brings back the best memories of our Dad, Stuart May who sadly left us on his last journey last October. Dad was from Hollingworth and was one of the many young boys who had once the luck of seeing such locos on a daily basis and who loved and cherished these wonderful stealbeasts until his very last earthly breath. Back in the seventies Dad brought us over from Germany where he was stationed at the time whilst serving in the Army and took us to Dintin railway museum. We were so lucky as we had the chance to ride on Leander which then was in Maroon Livery.
Thanks Dad for giving us such priceless memories and for letting us be part of your magical steam world.

As for Leander, I hope you will be able to see and ride behind her as often as possible and feel your Dad’s presence when you do. Best wishes, Allan.

I don't think I've enjoyed a video from the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway as much as this excellent production from you Allan. Superb winter scenes very well filmed in all locations along the line, with a factual commentary that was most interesting and absorbing. The history of some of the station buildings is something I have learned from my 30 minutes of viewing.
Damens Station is in good hands (or should I say paws) with the resident dog present and the signalman there is one example of the friendly nature of those working at the railway.
Full marks to all involved in this gala to which your words of appreciation mentioned at the end of the video highlighted.
Certainly a video I will revisit again to get my steam 'fix' when I am unable to travel to galas and steam events. Very well done.

Both the line and the Worth Valley with its pleasant villages reveal something different and enjoyable whenever I can get over from the USA for a visit. As for content, I neither create nor post many videos at all, as you will note from my channel; it was the weather that created the “splendid setting” for this one so I deserve no credit for that, merely being fortunate to having been there at the time because I love steam galas and the line. I have a few productions of my own that gives me an understanding of how challenging it can be to produce good content.

Very well made film, and I was stunned by the quality of the narration.
You are very knowledgeable about the British (preserved) railways, the locomotives and its terminology, and only a few words used reveal you're American.
Eg. mainline excursion, which is referred to as a mainline tour in the UK.
The photography was outstanding, helped by the late winter weather not uncommon to the UK, I had such an occasion when visiting a steam gala on the Severn Valley Railway several years ago.
O, and I think the "porter" at Hawort actually was the station master or one of his assistants giving the trains right of way.

    • @atlantaman
      @atlantaman  Год назад +1

Well, Tom, you are exceedingly kind with your comments and I am very grateful for them and for watching the video.
Indeed we over here in America enjoy learning about preserved railways et al in the “old country” and visiting them if possible. I admit America and the UK are two nations divided by a common language and you spotted that fact in the commentary (mea culpa) and you are right to correct me: thank you.
If you peruse the comment made by Mr. C.J. Sheehan you will see he also corrected me for having erroneously called him a “porter”: he is the Foreman at Haworth, apparently. I hope to meet him on my next trip to the line and to practice my real English a little more (and enjoy a pint or three of that wonderful warm beer the Brits serve). Perhaps we can share a “jar” or two? I’ll look forward to it.

Really enjoyable video. Not sure if it was you I chatted to at Keighley and you showed some photos of your Amtrak trains mishap

Thank you for your kind response to my video - much appreciate and I’m pleased you enjoyed it. But, no, I am not the chap to whom you spoke though I’m sure we would have had a nice chat if we had met during the gala.

@@atlantaman Good to know this local railway to me is visited quite often by two from over there. Shows what a famous and well liked attraction it is. It would of been nice to of met and had a chat yes. A workmate of mine is a volunteer here and was up very early on Friday morning clearing the switches (Points) of snow then clearing the platforms, I met him by chance on one of the trains heading to get some lunch after 3pm that's how dedicated these guys are.

@@cedarcam indeed. My admiration for all the volunteers both past and present I hope is clear from the video. I hope your workmate also enjoyed it and perhaps was even in it! 👍

@@atlantaman Your admiration does show yes which is why I mentioned him in my reply. He does not feature in your video but I caught him in mine enjoying a pint on the way to Keighley still in his orange overalls

The snow makes most of the footage look authentic 1950s, just the occasional modern building gives it away.

Thanks for commenting. Actually, when doing my voice over stuff, I restrained myself from mentioning one particular “structure”, which I regard as a tasteless, poorly built design. That aside, I hope you enjoyed the video and appreciate your watching.

They did not have the wrong type of snow then, but then steam could cope with most things regarding weather. not like today, a dark cloud stops them today.

Perhaps the gala’s snowy conditions prove your point, Stan: none of its locos foundered, as far as I’m aware. Thank you for watching and commenting.

did 52044 get a new smokebox door?, i remember it having a more conventional one as opposed to the midland styled one.
