- In 2017, NATO’s enhanced Forward Presence saw four new deployments, bringing multinational battlegroups into Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland as a response to changing security environments along NATO’s eastern border.
As part of NATO’s enhanced Forward Presence in Latvia, Spain has deployed a heavy armoured unit abroad for the first time. Around 300 troops, 250 of which are from the Mechanised Infantry Brigade “Extremadura XI”, supported by Leopard tanks and Pizarro armoured vehicles, were stationed in eastern Europe for six months. They constituted the second biggest contingent of the Latvian-based battlegroup led by Canada. The battlegroup has also been supported by troops from Albania, the Czech Republic, Italy, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia.
This story follows three crew members of a Pizarro armoured vehicle and their day-to-day life. The film crew embedded with the Brigade “Extremadura XI” from the pre-deployment training until their multinational training in Latvia. Here they share with us both military and more person moments.

Spanish cavalry units using in attack the leopard 2E with 2 pizarros with his crew and 6 infantry soldiers for assault. Is excelent tandem for attack.The explorer units using the Leonardo armoured vehicle 8x8 with 105 gun.
I'd like Spain and Denmark to train together with the Leopards. Hopefully

Panzergrenadier, can you confirm that they're having fresh-brewed coffee and milk at 5:20? I'm going nuts with jealousy. US Army grunts had to _eat_ stale instant coffee back in my day.
@@johnd2058 Can confirm on the milk. It's issued to the units apart of the main rations, it comes from bricks you could find on any commerce. Same with the bread, though that one is done on the field.
As for the coffee it comes as part of the standard field rations, though it's quality is as good as you might find on any commercial center's shelf.
And yes, well, in Spain we are quite used to eat really well...and that translates into really excellent field rations for the military units too.

Today,Spanish and French armies and navies have a great collaboration.The military units of two countries have a great number of joint exercices,because share de same menaces.Spanish FAMET(ALAT for France) landing her helicopters Chinook and Tiger in french ship Dixmude.Or have exercices in French maneouvres Baccarat.The last month,an spanish f-100 frigate is joined in exercice fanal-19 with french navy.
Great mini-documentary. They look like an awesome crew. A salute to my Spanish military friends. Thank you for your service.
My only critique is that I wish they showed more of the infantry squad that's deployed with them. That's the "other half" of the firepower of a mechanized unit. They're the ones that help keep the IFV safe against enemy anti-tank teams, while the IFV in turn, provides fire-support for their dismounted infantry.

I know the feeling! Lived in a Royal Netherlands Army YPR-765 PRI (Charlie 30) during my conscription. We even gave it a name: Christine, after the book by Stephen KIng. Our driver had an old car radio installed in it and while on exercise we sometimes were singing with Van Halen out loud in the cabin. But most of the time we had to camp outside in our foxholes on the German plains (it was during the Cold War) and only got to board it, when quick movement over greater distance was required. But yes, we loved the tin can. Not quite as capable as the Pizarro, but our home nonetheless.

Amazed of the quality of this film. So nice general feeling, casting is exeptionally good. Nothing was forced in the film, it just flows. Pizarro engine noise was totally gone, polished sound allaround. Kinda quiet, thoughtful atmospheres, good music selection. Sound mixing balance and talent speaking eq and compression was flawless. Who made this? Congrats to the team.

Sería más perfecto con un IFV actualizado, más completo (las dos primeras en referencia a otros IFV como el bradley, Ajax y la variante del t 14, que nos estamos quedando atrasados nuevamente) y hecho íntegramente en España, pero que pedir al 0,9%del PIB, ya se hace bastante con los que hay.
Solo les faltan misiles antitanque tow y ya están completos

Its easy to forget why we are in NATO, and it is easy to forget that it has been NATO and close relationships with each other that created and has maintained this peace between us. The same peace that some now use to say that we no longer need NATO. I am an American who now lives in Canada and even though I have never been to Germany Latvia or other European country's if the time came I would fight for your democracy.

Very interesting being ex British tank crew. We ate together though, a 4 man ration pack and took it in turns cooking, rather than several individual one man cookers, we had a 2 ring petrol cooker.

I just find it insane how a sergeant major can be assigned the role of tank commander. This man has served for probably 20 years, and risen through all the enlisted ranks to end up the same job as me when I served as a 19-year-old corporal. And I also believe I was perfectly capable of fulfilling the role I had. I don't know whether this is commonplace in Spain, but a sgt. maj. should definitely have a battalion or brigade level desk job, or be a very advanced specialist.

Sure, like German products, the best. The ASCOD (Austrian Spanish Cooperation Development) is a cooperation agreement between Austria and Spain. Pizarro for Spain, Ulan for Austria and now Atlas for UK. Hulls manufactured in Spain, turrets in Austria and the UK versions, i don´t know.
Sorry Ajax (not Atlas) is the name of the UK IFV.
Awesome to see alot of EU countries with their respective camouflages that makes them unique the uniqueness has been dropping over the years but that's still a thing and I love it!

It's a whole lot of bad German. Not the OPs fault, it's 'tradition'.
It should be 'ran, rauf, rüber' without the D's except for maybe '(d)ran'.
Now literally it means 'to, onto, over', regarding some obstacle.
Some say the obstacle is the enemy, which again I'd consider pretty stupid again.
I'd rather interprete it as ANY obstacle like walls, trenches, entire houses etc., finally meaning:
TACKLE ANY OBSTACLE!
or
DON'T GET STOPPED BY ANYTHING!
