Gosh, I love your theme example, it's kinda ominous during the beginning and very beautiful. I'm trying to write a piece something similar for my character. This was really helpful!
10 years later and this video is still as useful as ever. I learned from it when I was a student and now I use it with MY STUDENTS. Thanking for contributing to library of alexandria of human knowledge (RUclips)
I’m currently in a high school music theory class and I missed a week. Now we’ve started a composition project in which I have to make a variation of a popular classical pieces theme in some way. I was too nervous to ask the teacher so this really helped me understand. Thank you!
Is there a recommendation of special cadence to be used between a theme and its variations? Also a fast question, which is the relative minor of C-major?
And to your first question, I would generally recommend to used the dominant (V) of the New Key in Last measure of the Theme. Of you want to go to A-Minor, a E-Major should go before.
How do you introduce new variations and sections smoothly? It always feels like it starts and stops. Would you ever use some content in between as filler?
Is theme and variations consider a Form, like Sonata form or rondo or rondo-sonata or whatever, because there are not strict rules for it? Thank you in advance.
I'm only on the first variation but had to pause to tell you how nice it sounds. This is beautiful!
2:36 Theme 1
3:31 Variation 1
4:22 Variation 2
need this for school thanks
