I can’t tell you how much I love my TR-8s. All my favourite drum machines in one box, the CR-78 was the only thing missing!

Update went well 😀weird how you have to do a local factory reset to get the new kits and patterns though !
There is an "save on shutdown" option (somewhere in the utility memory I believe), so you do not need to be a chronic saver!

Think it’s auto save, and it does it before it shuts down
I've been using this since I got my tr8s but a friend of mine pointed out that it might improve my workflow to eventually disable this when I have the kits I usually use already made for playing, I guess it depends on what you u your tr for. Just some thoughts

I must have been under a rock when the other update came out version 1.03 Nov 2021 and I just read some of the differences and I don’t understand what the ext in with usb audio means and how to implement it. Have you tried that or done another video I can watch to understand? Thanks so much.

TR8s has an autosave setting if you don't want to worry about saving when you power it off. Not as good as Elektron which is always auto-saving, so if power goes out you are safe. With the TR8s, it only saves if you flip the power button, if your power goes out it won't have saved anything. I learned this the hard way 😂

funny timing as I just cashed in a whole bunch of splice credits for the samples from mars roland pack. Excited to compare the cr78 on the tr6s vs said samples on the m:s. side note: just added a midi mod to a tr77!

I'm not sure if you mean like on the Roland TR software app? I'm assuming that it did because both were updated at the same time.
How is the chromatic bass any different from motion recording the tuning on any other bass? Like, why not just motion record tuning per step on the regular 808 bass? I really don't get what is so chromatic about it. There are some FM basses in the 8s that have actual note parameters which you can dial in notes rather than some coarse version of the already present tuning. I really don't get what the fuss is about.

hey! i made update, backup, restore factory setting . so i get cr78 sounds and cr78 patterns, But when i reload my old patterns from backup i lost cr78 beats, because my beats are also on the same pettern number like cr78. how to do it to have both worlds ?

Try moving your beats to other patterns first, then load the cr78.

thanks for the video! question. following you do the chromatic bass section, and im not sure what I am doing wrong but no matter what, I cant get the individual steps to play the different tone. i am holding each step individulally and tweaking the ACB as you are but when I play in back the rune is the same on all the steps. any suggestions? thanks in advance. love the channel!
It could be that motion record isn't on!
Shift+Variation to turn on motion worked for me!
You can “auto-save” on the TR-8s, so when you switch it off it’ll save before shutting down.

Have they added global outputs yet? I hate that my outputs change every time i change kits.

If we factory reset for the update do we lose our imported samples and patterns?
I think so - make sure to back those patterns up.
Adding CR78 is most welcome. But damn…very underwhelming update otherwise. 1:) Still the MAJOR issue introduced after version 2.0 where triggering pattern changes via external midi program change causes the beat to skip/stutter and fall out of time. 2:) still rigidly locked to the grid with no possibility of say, having a clap hit slightly before or after the beat, so lame. 3:) still no way to use the pads for basic melodic lines instead of this tedious coarse tune programming.
And now it’ll likely be another 6 months to a year of these issues before any possibility of another update. C’mon Roland.
On gearspace they say they fixed those bugs.

Absolutely! Because of the nature of ACB- it’s literally like having an entirely new iconic drum machine in your TR

Would be really sick if they release a cr-78 software emulator along with all the other roland drum machine emulators
Looks like it’ll be a slow drip in that respect
So it's 3rd party - but you just have to check out Cherry Audio's CR-78 plug-in, it's mind blowingly good and does a bunch of crazy cool stuff in addition to an impeccable CR-78 emulation. I have a TR-8s on order and can't wait to see how the 2 might play together.

Are the CR78 samples?
They’re ACB so they’re not just plain old one shot samples- they respond the same way the OG CR-78 does
Mines still 1.00 so I’m still gutted be a use I don’t use computers. M iPhone might be able if I get a photo thing. Light ad d pt( sorry. I’m eating. ). One handed.

I installed 2.0 on the TR 6s but..... The Cr 78 sounds are there but no Cr 78 Kit... Weird world

@@LiamKillen I simply made a Kit out of the Cr 78 sounds. I decided that “no way I am erasing and then manually restore all my customization and patterns , kits etc just to have one extra new kit restored” . I find the update a but underwhelming tbh but I am not unthankful for it

Sounds nothing like a CR78 to me. You'd be better off just using a sample pack TBH.
maybe ! It's like an enhanced CR-78 though because you've got so much more control over all of your drum sounds.

The TRS8 is a great machine,
However , the TR editor is Cloud based and its a licence nightmare, never using any Roland cloud software again.
Being forced to be online constantly is a pain, I bought the damn thing let me use it piece.

The pre-sale advertising for the RD8 promised chromatic control of the kick via midi. Was so annoyed when this was turned out to a complete lie. Luckily, I bought a TR6S later (I do use both, though)

The sounds are crap and I see no use for the CR78! I don’t see any new music in any of the genres of today using the these ACB samples. Roland need to focus on the next type of sound design and bring in something new, instead of regurgitating the same old crap!
