- "The Basic Parts of a Car" has actually been a long standing request to me, I was glad to be able to fill that request with this video. I will say that I didn't cover EVERYTHING but I feel this is a pretty good overview of the basic components of a modern car. Feel free to add your own input in the comments. Here are those video links I promised that may give you more in depth information.

i really appreciate people like this who put their knowledge and years of experience out on to youtube so we can all learn from one another
Same!
Roboartist I couldn't agree more! Things such of this help so much and too many peopel as you say use youtube for unproductive stuff
Totally agree.
Indeed.

Who else is here because they wern’t taught growing up and are teaching themselves for their own knowledge and to teach our future kids?
Goon Squad Skateboarding me
Trying to find out if it's worth being a mechanic and how to become one If I do indeed want to be one
My father should be ashamed of himself for not teaching me any of this shit.
My father taught me but I was an impatient little shit and didn't pay attention. Now that I'm 24 with a full-time job and own my first brand-new car I realize I fucking love cars. Now I have to relearn all this. Pay attention to your parents, kids.
Goon Squad Skateboarding nah, I’m here because the guy I’m interested in is talking about his car and I’m a dumb bitch😂
The days of getting yelled at with the flashlight in my hand are over!!!!
King S. Williams same brother lmfao 😂😂
We shall be doing the yelling now 😼
We gon be promoted!

for the generation without dads.. we have youtube
And thank god for that 😂
All we can do. Learn ourselves to hopefully become sufficient fathers one day, far better than the ones who wronged us.
never seen the s.o.b but ive seen my moms scars everyday.
😂😂😂
True
Just in case you guys didn't know, you can actually take apart the basic parts of a manual transmission car in a video game called Car Mechanic Simulator. It's available on several platforms and is a great way to visually see the assembly of a car's brake system, suspension system, and of course engine (several types, including V4, V8, SOHC and DOHC). Careful though - it's addicting.
Thanks dude trying to learn about all of it
Thanks bro
If you have an Oculus or VR headset Wrench is a cool game where you can do it all by hand!
Wow thank you. I'll be looking for this for sure
How much it cost
You are a good teacher and dont have an annoying voice like most other youtubers. thanks
+Kaes engineeringexplained? lol
I was thinking scottykilmer!
Kaes @EngineeringExplained
anyone else super into cars and just want to learn the parts so when you get your licence you want to build your own car?
BAYPALS nope
That’s why I’m here
yeah man I cant wait to start driving it has always been my dream to build a car and dont worry what @SS says he clearly knows nothing especially how hes talking to you like that.
Y y’all disrespecting the kid? Tf??? Negative ass people hatin on someone looking forward to their future
To build your own car lol you’re clueless bud
“Here are just the basic parts of a car.” *PROCEEDS TO BLOW MY FKING MIND*
You should make a video explaining general automobile parts, like what they are used for and what their purpose is in a vehicle. I recently got a job at NAPA Auto Parts and I only have basic knowledge about cars. I've been trying to find information about more complex auto parts and shit like that, and you're the only person on youtube that actually knows what they're talking about. If you could help me, that would be incredible.
go to school... become apprentice make monay
There are lots of books you can read, or you can take a course on it. I personally just started watching videos and getting hands-on with my vehicle. It'll come with time.
G Snake Charmer Some of us want to make sure it is something we are sure we can learn before we start putting money into classes. (Unless you meant like high school classes on mechanics, which my school didn't have when I went.)
nah the only thing you realize after a while is learning to decipher something... become the master of problem solving... its a life skill.. i mean like forcing your self to learn...what's gone go wrong? you going to learn to much ?money into classes gives you some sort of recognition in this beautiful country.
G Snake Charmer
money into classes can also give you the glory of debt, and money that could have been spent elsewhere if mechanics is simply not your thing.....
I'm a 19yr old female I hated cars growing up. Now , I think I wanna change that. My goal this year is to learn how to drive and know as much as I can about cars. Thank you for your time n help sir Eric
cette jolie fille kay same! And this video was so helpful
Why would you hate cars?
Cars are awesome! Just wished they didn’t damaged the environment. Well at least the cool ones.
Wait your 19 and you don’t know how to drive?
You don't know how to drive?
Sunroof vs moonroof? Depends what time of the day you ask the question!
lmao
+Kelly Purcell hey do I know you lol

I think sunrppfs slide back and open while moonroofs don't open and are sealed in
I have a dead beat dad thanks RUclips for showing me the parts of a car
Alondra Nevaeh shouldn't have beaten him to death then.
Ur not funny bitch
Alondra Nevaeh 🙏
Cras gomez y u mad? Shut yo bitch ass up
it was a shit joke.
Eric you are the first person that got me into this industry. Since then I’ve been a full time mechanic ( my first employment was in SEPTEMBER 2012 )
Now I run my own garage🙏 and create RUclips videos because I learned that from you
Thank you legend
I'm proud of you man
My son grew up without a dad, very smart kid (college graduate) but knows nothing about cars so a video like this is good.
Not all dads know stuff about cars to teach to their kids. My dad doesnt know much so I was on my own to learn.
same with me man, but I don't have a dad. how did you learn on your own?
My dad doesn't give a fuck about cars as long as it gets from A to B he doesn't care. So learning about cars is really hard for me. :/
NVLC_LogicPK cmon man don’t say that to someone’s mother especially a single mom. Maybe her husband died smh
You guys don’t need a dad or a dad that knows about cars to be a young car enthusiast. I’m one myself and my did could give 3 less shits about cars and I’m just totally in love with them! Anyone who has true and committed love for a vehicle will find out ways around a problem and that’s something y’all gotta do. I’m taking automotive class to inform myself better and i was surprised on how much information I knew. That class is my easiest class and I did it without help just my own research and looking into cars online and watching some car enthusiast channels and it takes a long time but car knowledge honestly comes with time it doesn’t just come in a second there’s a lot to learn about automotive industry. Wish you all the best of luck
Thanks for taking time to explain!!

All eyez on me
The main reasons I wanna get into cars is because | 1. Cars are cool | 2. The mechanics I go to, dont fully help me with my car problems | 3. My parents say the same thing as 2 | 4. I want to add modifications via to my car(s)
FMboo You can do it!
FMboo Did you learn?
4. Makes you a ricer
FMboo one time I caught my mechanic fucking my wife. Needless to say I didn’t go back
LittleLogic pk no, ricers are cosmetics only. Getting to know your car and actually modifying your cars internals and parts makes you anything but a ricer
thank you so much, your knowledge and humor are refreshing. I appreciate this video as a woman easily taken advantage of at the mechanics
Thank you Eric. This helps a lot
Eric, Just wanted to say that I have been moved a lot by your effort and it is a pain in the butt to make such a lengthy vdo. Hell the talking itself dries us out. I know that this stuff is so educational to us so I am not gonna talk abt it. But its your effort and valuable time that needs a bow :) Thanks a ton!!

Thank you so much for these videos! I've always loved cars since I was a small child in the 70's drooling over muscle cars. I always wanted to be an auto mechanic and work on cars, but since I'm a girl my family basically freaked out and did an, "over my dead body" on me so I wasn't allowed to further explore that interest. I am now 44 and still love cars and dream of being able to work on them. Thank you so much for making these videos so people like me can learn. :)
Ibbygirl female auto mechanics are always beautiful i have no doubt you look amazing im sure have a nice day lady
I can’t believe it took me lots of searching to finally find a good video that actually explains everything (I love cars but we’re never taught anything as well as I just want the common knowledge)
I watched this because I am in the process of becoming a man finally
Aye 😂
I'm watching this because I'm doing a motor vehicle study for college.
I don't know shit.
Same aj
Yeah me too 🤗 MGTOW 🤘
i’m currently in auto mechanics and i love working on cars but learning the theory is really hard for me. they always play really boring monotoned videos that i can’t pay attention to and they expect us to know a lot more than we do. i really appreciate these videos because i’m starting to lose my passion with working on cars so i’m really excited i found these videos that make it interesting again.
My mom doesn't know anything about cars and my dad's out of the picture, so I'm trying to teach myself as early on as possible but it's just so hard for me to grasp for some reason
I feel that! We'll figure it out. Goodluck.
That's awesome! How old are you?
Don't worry I'm in the same boat as you! Take it one step at a time my friend
Dad passed 2 years ago when I was 15, trying to fix his old Bronco. It’s hard for me as well trust me!
@@bigballs6944 the good thing in today's world is that we have internet, go to Reddit and you have various subreddits about cars and tons of people that will help you through the problems!
I’m watching this to get more knowledge of cars, my boyfriend is super into cars and I want to get interested in what he’s interested in.
man ain't he one lucky guy to have a girl like you learn about cars for him damn that's goals i wish the best for yall fam
omg samee
doing this for my future bf ahaha

Im the same way
I'm 18 and I'm probably the only teenager Boy that doesn't know shit about cars, I really want to change that, obtaining knowledge like this can open doors to develop new beneficial skills. If anyone has more great sources or vids like this, please comment,Im starting from scratch !
raul valentin I don't know where you live, but nowadays it's more like you're the only one if you don't know about computers, not cars. Lots of my peers don't know about cars, but do know about computers
Did you learn more about cars?
Chrisfix on youtube
Watch Scotty Kilmer and engineering explained on RUclips
Raven me its both haha
I really like how you get into all the jargon, and even go as far as to get into what you know about international jargon. Also, its great to have a medium-level description of things, where you get into a fair amount of detail about things but still keep it to the point. Great content, thank you!
My brother, his friends and I are all in high school and were buying cars and fixing them and re selling them for more than we payed. I'm a freshman and have only taken autos one and I only know a few things about the engine so I'm just fixing the interior of the cars but they all take advanced autos and know exactly how to fix the problems. I'm trying to learn the components of the car so I can help them figure out whats going on or whatever may be happening on my own and this video is helping out a lot! Thank you very much!
Evan Dahl I’m curious how this journey went, based on when you wrote this comment you are either in ur last year or you moved on to college. Do you understand now and how much money did you make lol.
Hashi I’m wondering as well, let us know bro lol.
So ur a piece of shit got it
dog person oh Ur salty salty 😆😆
Your high school had an auto class? Mine didnt...
Thanks Eric, I really appreciate all the time and effort you've put into making these videos. I've learned a ton in only two days. Keep up the great work!
Great video. I've been working on my own cars for a little while but didn't know some of the names of parts so this is great. So far have done shocks, breaks, wheel bearings, and other general maintenance and not only do I have fun doing it but have saved my family $1000's since I've learned more about cars. This is possibly the greatest use of RUclips is diy home repairs/car repairs. Knowledge is power.
Eric. You are definitely the car guy for drivers like me who were/are clueless to what is under the hood.
I was captivated for the entire 36 minutes and tried my best to keep up with your rapid but clear descriptive modulated exciting speech. (I will rewatch and pause and be ready for pop quiz!) Seriously, Thank you so much. Like the rest of your audience here- We feel better after watching and learning. After so many years of driving and not knowing the basics (too embarrassed to say how many) I am no longer afraid to look under the hood :o) Thanks for the links for more auto knowledge.
Happy Holidays! to all.
Love the channel, extremely informative. I'm starting my first day at a tech in an hour and I've been up all night watching your videos. I feel very confident know! 10/10 would recommend.
Doing an Automotive Program at my college, and gotta say your video's help me greatly! Thanks and keep on doing what your doing Eric, your helping lots of people..
I'm 16, trying to learn how to drive, and with that, I'm also interested in learning how cars work and maybe even learning enough about mechanics to fix my own (future) car if needed. I'm glad there's videos like this out there, I have a bunch of different videos lined up in a playlist to help get even at least the gist of things but I'm not expecting to become a prodigy overnight lol. Hopefully, despite this video being made in 2012 watching this and some other videos along with help from friends and family over time, I can acquire some knowledge in mechanics, I did the same thing with guns but even then I'm far from a master or gunsmith lol. Thanks for the video, I'm hoping I can learn from this, as one of your commenters said: "I really appreciate people like this who put their knowledge and years of experience out on to youtube so we can all learn from one another" -Josh Qaszq.
You are the GREATEST. Thanks for your dedication, intelligence, and time to share these educational videos with us. You are officially my RUclips automotive instructor. God Bless
Love this video. With numerous car review & car repair videos, it can be tricky finding videos that talk about basic car knowledge for beginners. Appreciate it!
In the UK we call the package tray a parcel shelf. Vids are great, keep up the good work!
Thank you for the videos!! I've always wanted to learn about cars, and someday get into a garage, but no one wants to even take the time to explain the basics. And you do a great job of breaking things down.
You make the best how-to videos. You don't miss a detail and make it easy to understand. You don't skip any steps that you would just expect someone to understand, even if its a minor detail, you go over it. I'd like to just say thank you for the interesting videos, and I'm actually learning something of value yet it keeps me interested and not lost.
Thank you so much! As a first time car buyer, I'm looking for a basic understanding of how a car works so I feel confident in negotiating prices when I head to a dealership. Great Video
I've always wanted to learn about cars and I'm writing a book where the main character knows a lot about them lol, thanks for making this dude
what's ur book about i'm interested
@@wishingwell_333 Think it’s something about a guy that knows a lot about cars
Did you ever finish it?
I watched this so i can get into a car enthusiast conversation

Been out of the auto parts game for 10 years. Great refresher as I go in for an interview at Autozone in a couple of hours. Thanks!
Man, as a foreign language speaker, I really want to thank you so very much for this video.
My main language is Portuguese and there is a lot (I mean *A LOT*) of information here on RUclips about car repair and maintenance, but one hat to understand the names for the parts of the car in the first place, so this is quite a precious "tool."
So once again, thank you so very much for this and accept my greetings from Portugal.
I watched two videos, and in one hour, I learned so much. Thank you
Subscribed because I’m a former Navy electronics technician. I enjoyed small engines but I never understood vehicles. I want to EVENTUALLY get into fixing stuff with vehicles! :) This video made so much sense and I really appreciated it. Thanks.
My training at Midas was basically look for any dash lights, check the fluids and make sure they are full, test battery, check air filter, check hoses. Then lift it and check the suspension and tire tread/wear, then check the brakes, then look for any leaks / look at exhaust. And then proceed with whatever the customer needs. (Oil change, brakes, tires, battery, etc.)
I’m 19 years old and I hardly know anything about cars. I have been wanting to learn about cars for a while already and this video is really helpful! I appreciate it 👏🏽
How’s your journey been? I’m in the same boat trying to learn as much as I can.

This was one of the first videos that started my car journey 6-7 years ago Thank you.
Thank you Eric
that was a very informative video. Thank you for taking time out to spread the knowledge.
Great video, still holds up 7 years later. Always wanted to know more about cars but didn't know where to start so thank you
You explain so thoroughly and in a such harmonious and clearly spoken manner, understanding that we are learning. It's fantastic. You have in me a proud student and suscriber. Thank you.
Got an interview for a mechanics apprenticeship on Tuesday so checking out all these vids
good luck. cheers.
How did that go/went?
Eyy lmao
How did it go?

I only have to watch this 20 more times to remember it, but thank you! I appreciate the shared knowledge, hopefully I can actually learn something this quarantine. 😂
Since modding my first car has turned me into a car enthusiast, I need this video, thanks for the content
Wow, 36 minutes of basic run-down of the inside of a car and I went out to take a look inside my car and I was able to identify all the major parts under the hood. Fantastic video, wish they still offered star ratings. Easy 5.
Thanks so much for your video, Eric! Super helpful in making me less ignorant.
"I hope you're not looking at the sky while you're driving" 😂
I hope so too lol
Very generous of you to take your time taking your time and even taking off the tires to explain everything!
This is one of the best videos you'll ever see in RUclips on cars...
in the uk we call package trays parcel shels. Great vid :)
this is mindblowing! didnt know a thing about cars.. thank u
Same here
Learned more about cars in 30 minutes than the rest of my life. Thanks, Eric!
Eric “I also have a video on that too” The car guy
Great video, very informative! I had always wondered the official name for that shelf behind the rear seats. In my family we always called it a "laughing place." Apparently, back in the days before modern auto safety standards, when my mom and/or her brother would get bored on long road trips, they would lay across that shelf and my grandpa would tell them jokes, so... laughing place. I still call it that sometimes and my wife looks at me like I'm insane lol
love the simple nature you speak to the viewer. Well done. I am a new fan. Looking forward to checking out more videos.
I enjoyed your video. The last time I learned about the parts of a car was back in high school, taking auto mechanics as an elective. That was forty years ago. Time for a refresher. Thanks
You never mentioned where the hidden cocain department was..?

I’m a female college student& just got a car; most of my college friends who drive know nothing about cars which is I find messed up. I’m studying pre medicine, but I find the car internal really interesting although everything is new and looks foreign to me!! Thank you for this.
Great video! I've always loved cars and working on them but I barely ever get the chance to work on them or learn about them so I wanted to watch a video learning all the parts and everything so I'm glad I found this video good job!
For someone who wants to know a lot about cars but never really learned about them as a kid, this helped and I hope I can take knowledge like this with me so that when the time comes I can be self reliant.
Eric the awesome car guy!! you explain well
This is basic? good lord...

Timdeuces imagine explaining step by step rebuilding a DOHC v8 engine haha even I get confused
Exactly! The title is completely misleading. I would downvote but RUclips removed dislike which means shitty videos will keep wasting our time
i know this comment is old asf but for anybody else feeling this way this video is more like beginners guide for people who already know car parts and what not, but don’t know where they go/how to replace them/how they work, assuming you already know what the part is called and know somewhat of what it looks like
I am a married women at 18 years old and my husband LOVES CARS. His life is surrounded with vehicles and I’m truly a car dummy so vids like this really help out!!!!
You should get more into them. The science behind a combustion engine is incredible.

EXACTLY THE CHANNEL I WAS LOOKING FOR. THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR HARD WORK
In the uk the year is found on the licence plate
Nathan Critchley You can lose it or unattach (?) it lol
Same in Ireland. Quite helpful when you're curious about another car's year that you might see on the road.
Ah and for the person saying that you can loose it, it doesn't make much of a difference since there's other places you can find information like that too on your car.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge... MAY GOD BLESS YOU MORE!!!

Its a glovebox in Europe too lol
how/why does one get into the car appraisal business when you know nothing about cars?
Is there another aspect of it im not aware of?
Knowing things about cars is different from knowing the correct terminology. Someone could know about servicing a powertrain and never know what a package tray is.
