May I just ask how did you ask them these questions and them answering back so comfortably? Are you Korean to communicate with them? Did you use a translator? Do they understand english?

Avoiding the puddle is also amazing and very focused on gameplay.
Gerald, you have no idea how pivotal your role is in the FGC right now. You singlehandedly bridge the gap (language barrier) so that we can learn more about our counterparts. I've been so intrigued by these two, not just as players, but as people. NA has a tendency to "jokingly" make foreign players into villains of sorts, which is all in good fun, but it doesn't allow for things like this: simple interaction. I'm what you would call a "relational player". I'm intrigued by the people that make up the community and want to know more about them as a person. This video is awesome for people like me! The moment you drop some merch, I will be buying it! Keep making awesome videos!

The problem a lot of games have, especially long-standing series trying to bring in more players, is exactly the lack of this. They try to cater too heavily to a broader audience and subsequently lose their most diehard players, because that "quality" disappears in favour of accessibility.

+ Harada said in many interviews that they focused on gameplay to make attractive on both side
I think that's something that every game creator should try to do

I mean I am a melee player, even tho the game isnt meant to be played competitively, I am still enjoying both casual and competitive side
and to finish with, Tekken 7 has a hella good content, don't speak about losing quality, this game is at least as good as tekken 3 back in the day AND its refreshing

I remember in 4th grade in Korea, I was 1.5 hours late to my tutor lesson because I was watching people play Tekken outside of my school... Definitely not a hyperbole when they said FGC arcades were in every neighborhood.

Dude, I can honestly say, Tekken7 is the greatest fighting game ever made mechanics wise.
Too bad that the T5DR-TTT2 era was really the peak of Tekken. T7 is the start of the decline as far as quality in Tekken games goes. Everything that was good had to come to the inevitable end.

I'm fully satisfied that I found your channel. Impeccable analysis work you have done here with all your videos. So far I've only seen 3 or so, but I know I'm going to watch more.

I knew JDCR didn't care much about arcade sticks and levers. He's too fundamentally perfect in Tekken that any stick works so long as it works and feels good.
As far as i know he has an older Etokki Omni with a "Myoungshin" fanta lever, which is actually one of the original ones that the KR arcades were using and the Etokki omni is like the best KR style arcade stick you can get...
(Also as far as i know the "Taeyoung" "fanta" lever is the original ~ genuine "fanta" lever. I've heard that people say the QA on the Taeyoung joysticks are still top notch meanwhile the cheaper Myoungshing and Crown "fanta" knock offs are seem to be lacking in that regard.
You can see it in the video that when they go into the Arcade the cabinets have some Crown joysticks. I've read that some people were actually complaining about them until Crown stepped up their game and fixed up their stuff. To me one thing is still weird about them is that these newer Crown "fanta" knockoffs also using a spring with the rubber grommets unlike the oldschool "fanta" which only has the rubber grommet. Maybe the quality of the rubber grommet is worse or the material or whatever so they needed the spring to make up for it.)

Everytime I see a video I am more and more impressed by what you doing here. being a fan of fighting games and a fan of esports, it good to see a channel that not one dive in the the core of it but really help people like me to understand it better. I can say i played fighting games since Street Fighter 2 in the 90's and I still play today, and I am not pro player but I learn a lot from these videos and I am glad I found this channel and I been showing it to others so keep it up. you are doing amazing.

it means that capcom raised the skill floor while dragging the skill ceiling down for legacy players. tekken is more accessible now but retains the advanced shit for old veterans

These players make Tekken sound so much fun. When asked about accessibility, JDCR's immediate response is to talk about which style is easiest to start with. It just shows how much they love the game.

They're right about the huge move-set. When I started Tekken some time ago I was surprised to see hundreds of moves most characters have, especially Yoshimitsu, which I wanted to try out because he looked cool. Some had two, three or more stances. I think Lei Wulong had like five stances? Anyway, I settled on Lili - she had the fewest moves, like 60 moves or so, lol.
The Mishimas (Kazuya, Heihachi, Jin) have less than 70 moves, iirc. But their lesser moves and lack of stances (Jin only has one stance of different variations) makes for more creative playstyles. I like that about them.
It is rather ironic that the characters with the fewest movesets are the harder ones to master, because their moves aren't as flashy.

4:15 -- What JDCR actually meant is "...because its a NAMCO 3D fighting game, where (successful) sidestep actually has startup frames". Not all 3d games are like this.

I started playing Tekken after a few years of playing Street Fighter. I initially enjoyed Tekken when I first started playing it. But my problem was that my movement was very stiff. I didn't sidestep, or even hold back after back dashing. But it's been a bit over a year since I first started playing Tekken. IMO, playing Tekken while coming from a 2D background is rough
Corey Mitchell I started playing since tekken 5 dark Resurrection the first one with online mode, my very first problem was the sidestep, holy fuck some advanced players dodged everything
Christian Tapia I "started" with Tekken 3, but that was back when I was nine and didn't know what I was doing. So, I don't really count that. I really started learning Tekken in T6 when I was a lot older. But yea, higher level players will step a lot of stuff and punish you for it. That's a big reason why I work on my movement
Corey Mitchell good thing now you can just go to practice mode and look for moves with a blue arrow icon, those moves are meant to counter sidestepping, they're always existed but now we know for sure what to use, something as simple as that give the game more accessibility
Christian Tapia Oh yea, that helped me a lot with dealing with sidesteps. I was happy that I learned about homing moves since I play Asuka, And her f+4 is +3 on block and it's a knockdown that leads into a small juggle. It's a high tho, but still really good
they just get it, when i saw the command list i was DAMN! maybe i did a mistake trying to get into tekken, am still far away and i don't have a lot of time, but am having fun learning this complex game, deceivingly it looks easy, but it is not.

The game looks amazing to me. I have good memories of playing Dragon Ball fighters on the SNES even though they weren't that great, lol. This new game looks like they're serious about making a true fighting game.
