    I'd like to recommend that when raising or lowering gauge through the tank opening, place one hand on the tank while using the other to hold the gauge. This will help eliminate a static charge differential between the gauge and the tank.

    I'm trying to replace one of those same valves but mine is shaped off and can't find any tool that can remove the broken off valve due to a built in spring valve in side the pipe any suggestions my tanks not been used for proper in years had been converted to a bulk air tank but they just drilled a second hole and put in a air valve now that it's been moved to my new place and was hit getting it off the truck the valve snaped off need it removed to replace it with a cap to hold air again

    Hi, do you know if when you shut the valve off if it shuts gas off to the whole valve body or just the outlet pigtail. i may have a small leak on the side oppisite the shut off handle near the plastic cap

    • @dysfunctional_vet
      @dysfunctional_vet  2 года назад +1

      Mike, it only shuts off the pig tail. if you have a leak, i offer this advise. have a propane company pull the propane, fix the leak and then return the propane. it costs less than losing what you have.
      i found my valve on ebay for about 40-60 more than it cost locally, and in texas we can repair our own stuff. i don't know if you can do that, but a service charge to fix this would have been about 125 before biden got into office. i have no idea what it would cost now. i think i paid about 70=75 for it, and the socket i had to get to break it out. total was under 103. labor....none, i had no child in the repair of the tank.
      it has been holding pressure since about a week before i put that video up. i had a lot of folks tell me i needed yellow tape, but in the oil field i used the exact same thing here for pressure equal to, or exceeding this value. but follow your state's guidlines for insurance reasons.

      i will have to check, but i am thinking it was a 3/4 inch thread, the copper tubing is something i will have to also check for you as soon as i can.

      it took a while to get the info, (i'm a full time student and mom to 13 dogs, a dad to the same number)
      the pig tail is a 3/4 inch thread with a 3/8 inch copper tubing off of it.
      if i can help further, let me know.

    were did you get the seal or gasket for sealing the gauge to the tank?

    • @dysfunctional_vet
      @dysfunctional_vet  Год назад +1

      i got it at a local store, i can give you the address and phone number.
      this is the info you will need. the valve will have a number on it, and that will give the size of the gasket.
      on this tank, going by memory and not looking at the video, it seemed it was recessed about 1/8 of an inch. the gasket was a flat rubber, and i wondered if it would fit, and it did.
      when you contact them if you wish to go this route, have the number of that valve on top so that they can look up the replacement valve size. the valves are exactly alike in my case, just new numbers.
      i paid about 2 to 3 dollars for the valve
      from whenever it was posted to now, it is still holding pressure without leaking
      this is the place (903) 723-6222

    Was your tank empty when you changed the valve

    • @dysfunctional_vet
      @dysfunctional_vet  8 месяцев назад

      yes, for 3 days open to atmospheric pressure. any pressure at all will put great stress on the threads when you try to open it, which would result in death if your lucky, and worse if not, as it would come apart explosively with or without detonation.

    When wanted to service my tank and it was full I was told the only way to empty the tank was to use like three big weed burners and just burn up the gas. There was NO WAY to pump out a tank as there was no bottom valve.

    Where did you buy the parts? I need to rebuild a similar tank.

    • @dysfunctional_vet
      @dysfunctional_vet  Год назад

      nelson propane in palestine texas. make sure you measure carefully the diameter of the opening and the thickness of the gaskets. also a photo of the part will help.
      the gas dial works on a magnet that is under it, so getting the size is important. i wondered how they worked and thought it was genius.
      one think to keep in mind, the gage has an orientation to it. if you get it backwards, it will read incorrectly. but you just turn it since it is not part of the pressure hull, unless it is held in place by the machine thread screws that hold the pressure plate of the gage on.

    If your gauge didn't work and your shut off valve was broke, how did you know the tank was empty? Not sure if anyone cares but, there is a yellow teflon tape meant for natural gas and propane lines.

    • @dysfunctional_vet
      @dysfunctional_vet  Год назад

      the valve would not shut off, that is how i knew it was broken and empty. as for the yellow, i do have some, and the tank is holding pressure however long ago i put it back together.

    • @dysfunctional_vet
      @dysfunctional_vet  Год назад +1

      the one i had, i slid in and it rested on a gasket.
      a propane company can pump your tank dry and then you vent it to air for a time before you work on it. then you may have to talk to the gas company but yellow Teflon might be the fix, and you may need a gasket as i did.
      you need to check your state laws on repair however as some companies may not be able to fill your tank if you worked on it.
