    Thanks for the technical description.
    Makes me a bit confused why no one can make a simple, cheap digital reader that plugs into R3D gauges and gives some finer detail to track than the mechanical gauges "somewhere between 50 and 60"
    Not everyone needs to spend $200-2000 for a wireless solution.

    I'm unconvinced the R3D approach is all that accurate. The principle upon which it is based is the strength of a single magnetic field without any inherent self calibration possible. Although the companies selling the overpriced apparatus would have you believe otherwise. I'd argue the visual gauge itself will be more accurate accurate, and that's about as good as it gets for a LPG supplier standard issue setup.. Although warnings on the gauge faceplate NOT to use for filling purposes may have you questioning this. I'd expect a refocused $10 usb webcam would give a the most accurate reading and clearly indicate failure scenarios such as the sensor (camera) becoming dislodged during a hasty filling operation.

    Wondered how they worked: Heavy rain and wind storm dislodged my gauge and it was laying on the tank and I panicked until I saw that it was magnetic (thanks to your video) with no mechanical connections, so when I placed it back in its housing, it worked just fine. Thanks for the info!

    excellent! a datasheet on that connector would be great and, even better, a typical wiring diagram

    My magnetic gauge does not have the cutout. Can I buy an R3D gauge? Will my supplier be able to manipulate the sensor?

      I certainly aim for max detail (within reason) on all of my videos. In this case, Ron here in the Sales department had reported frequent questions on this topic. The video aimed to clarify how simple a machine-readable propane gauge installation actually is in most circumstances.

    The R3D-LP site indicates the following..."Warning! For LP-gas and other flammable product service applications, connect only to circuits and power sources Classified and labeled as Intrinsically Safe for Class 1, Division 1, Group C and D hazardous locations. The connection of non-intrinsically safe power could cause fire or explosion of flammable vapor which may be present."
    How do you deal with this?

      @DpsTV  4 года назад

      You should always follow local codes and best practices. I can tell you that many DPS clients use wireless data transmission and a battery-powered fuel sensor to create an "air gap" for precisely this reason. It also eliminates the cost of trenching, which can offset most or all of the expense of wireless.

    Awesome video. Just bought an older motorhone and the gauge inside doesn't seem to read.

    My Lp tank was leaking around the threads of the gauge. When I unscrewed it the float fell of inside the tank. Where do I find an inside gauge replacement and when I install it do I have to remove the tank to do so?

    • @DpsTV
      @DpsTV  5 лет назад

      Inside gauge replacements would be available from any tank or sensor supplier. Be sure to note the dimensions of your tank, as the float should cover most of its vertical dimension without striking the bottom when the tank is empty. You may not have to remove the tank to install the float, but you will need to drain it. Since you opened the tank to inspect the leak, this must have already happened. You can certainly contact DPS if you'd like us to find and re-sell you a float. This isn't a part we manufacture ourselves, however.

      Thank you for your reply. I however decided to buy a new tank because there was rust around the other devices as well. It probably was not necessary but a new tank will last the life of the RV. which is an 05.

      I know that feeling! Sometimes, buying something fresh is more convenient than getting stuck in the weeds of a problem. Happy RV'ing.

      This was something Ron in our office told me about. He would have trouble explaining over the phone that you don't actually have to drain your propane/LPG tank to install the gauge. As long as you have a compatible float with a magnet, you don't have to open the tank at all - but that's a tough one to explain on a call. Glad you found the info helpful.

    Hi Guys, I live in the UK and have a 2000 litre tank which can be read remotely by Calor (supplier) and has a very similar Gauge to the one you're showing in your (excellent) video . If I call them they give me the latest weekly reading of level / volume.
    I dont know how they obtain that reading, would be interested to know and wondering why I cant monitor it myself.
    I asked if they had an App but they said no and have looked everywhere on the web but can only find information on monitors for small portable tanks and bottles.
    Any advice or information would be greatly appreciated.

    I live in Mexico and I just discovered my supplier has been under filling our tank for the last 5 years by simply rotating this stupid magnetic gauge to show its full. I just figured it out. What sensor can I install to see how much propane is actually entered. All of the suppliers are controlled by local mafia and our corrupt HOA won’t allow any new suppliers, so please don’t bother recommending a new supplier. I need something my wife can see the level before and after it is filled and pay. I’m not usually home when they arrive.

    What's with the pop up ribbon covering the video? The purpose of a video is to see the information... if you're going to limit that... just do something else. No one buys from pop ups.
