  • Our Autotrail T670 came with this 25 ltr underslung refillable LPG tank for heating, hot water, fridge and cooking but the LED tank gauge in the cab has always read full from day 1. The dealer said it wasn't something he can do, Autotrail said they fitted the tanks and systems but it wasn't their responsibility and so I contacted GASIT.
    I have to say the staff at GasIT were fantastic, very helpful and even offered to take a look if I drove to their workshop in mid Wales. As it turned out the instructions they sent over for fault-finding was all we needed to fix the problem.
    What we didn't expect whilst doing this was to find a gas leak, it seems autotrail had sent our brand new van out with a loose gas hose connected to the tank, as well as a non-functional LED fill gauge.

    So when the gauge shows RED we then filled up the tank, which is a 25 ltr tank, we put in almost 17 ltrs, so there's 8 ltrs left in the tank when the gauge shows red.
    So at least GasIT put a little reserve space in there 👍🏻

    • @Chriswoodworker
      @Chriswoodworker 5 лет назад

      Just going to ask this very question about the 17ltrs to fill the tank. So the problem was the rubbish wiring or did I miss something?

    Thanks John very helpful! similar problem on mine (although i fitted it myself). i think it's might be easy to fit it - uncalabrated.... because i didn't know how much was in my tank when i fitted it so didn't spot the problem until my propex stopped working. Now i have to wait until after lock down ends to fill up and check i fixed it!

    Good fix.. many autotrailers having errors like this on the gas led. Mine reads full forever before coming down will check as per your video. My point about warranty made a few videos ago was a question not a criticism sure u understand. I have had issues with warranties in the past and had to fight my corner with manufacturers. Thanks

    • @johnmandy
      @johnmandy  5 лет назад +2

      I understand Paul, I had around 30 comments on here/email etc. about the warranty and I was daft throwing it away. If the fridge packs up then I can get it replaced, same with the cooker, but otherwise nothing else would be covered and I'm fine with that. FIAT will warranty the van body, engine, gearbox etc. and that's something I won't be messing with.

    Hi John so liked your video, thank you. I will add i totally agree with you on the warranty and doing the work yourself, we bought new and the bad quality and problems nearly killed us, as it was our first Bus we were so worried about our warranty, and we used it quite a few times. We had problems with the people doing the work as they damaged trim broke blinds while fixing something else. We have now come through all that and as it is now out of warranty. I am so like you that i can do all the work myself, so much better than what we have had to put up with, the feeling it is now in our control is wonderful. I wont mention who carried out the work as there name has been mentioned somewhere in the other posts (cough cough) The thought that you spend a lot on money and you get good service is an utter sham, it isn't like that at all, i conciser myself now so much wiser to that.....what brought me here well i'm after info on fitting an under-slung tank to a Peugeot Boxer and all i'm doing is getting so heads up, and after watching your video i liked your comments and thought i post. I'll finish with a Keep up the good work .....regards C.

    • @johnmandy
      @johnmandy  5 лет назад +1

      Thanks for your comments. Getting work done by people who care is always going to be a struggle as the bigger companies charge you a lot and pay their staff pennies. The best way is to use a small company, preferable a person who gave up working for someone else and started their own business going around doing the work. Then they will likely do a better job as their next customer comes from your recommendation.
      As for fitting the LPG, I can honestly say GasIT have been great with me fixing this problem, they do self install kits and from the work I did fixing my own system I can see the installation is quite easy.

    • @johnmandy
      @johnmandy  5 лет назад

      Maybe, we went to the show last week to see how other manufacturers were doing things and didn't see anything currently made that would be close to what we will end up with once we complete our changes. The germans are building for outdoor living, not always great for UK camping, the bigger vans are great but won't fit on our driveway and even if we sold this and bought an empty van I think we'd still end up with something close to what we are going to have soon with this van. (fingers crossed)

      @@johnrocker2986 Hi John, I guess he would have yes but he would have probably had to deal with a suicide door as well. I do know that you can order Adria's with the sliding door on the UK side now but I think the Knaus Boxcar van conversions have the sliding doors still on the continental side albeit they are right hand drive but I could be mistaken. :-)

    Hi John and Mandy, another really informative and great video thanks. I just can't believe the problems you are having with your van, basically all down to Auto-Trail. Shame on them, I hope their MD looks at these videos and cringes, but I think unlikely. They are now part of the Trigano group. The sad fact is I really liked V-Line I hired, indeed a V-Line was one of my short list of three Vans before I bought the Vantage Sol. Gas safety should not be skimped on and if Auto-Trail pay lip service to it then it is clear that shoddy workmanship and lack of quality control is systemic in the company. On an up note however I have just had a warranty claim from Fait involving fixing the outside ambient air temperature sensor and they couldn't have been more helpful and made it very stress free, giving me confidence for the future for that side of the Van. Best Wishes

      Thanks mate. I know you like naming and shaming, and in principal I do too, however, I've always then got caught up in the anger and frustration that comes along with dealing with people who clearly didn't care to do it right in the first place and end up arguing with you afterwards.
      In my view, Life is too short to get caught up wasting your time with matters that can't really change anything anyway. At best AutoTrail might apologise, say I should have taken it to their dealers to get a free repair or so on, at worst they'll do as they've done since last May and act like unless something is broken then it's fine.
      I am happy fixing things, showing others how to fix them and, at the same time, letting people see for themselves what type of product this manufacturer sends out of its doors.

    I can well understand your attitude towards taking the vehicle back. Also as a tip you may already know but a solution of 50 50 washing up liquid and water brushed on to gas joints will show any leaks by the gas blowing bubbles. That said I would always advise a gas system pressure test just to be safe.

    • @johnmandy
      @johnmandy  5 лет назад +2

      I've booked it in for a full safety check, Gas and electrics, once I've completed the changes. Need to make 100% sure this van is safe. 👍🏻

    • @stevedandy9541
      @stevedandy9541 5 лет назад +2

      I tried the solution and as room is tight underneath it's hard to see the bubbles especially as it drips off, I then tried imperial leather foam burst it's great as it stays as a stiff foam even upside down, still can't find my leak though 😩

    • @johnmandy
      @johnmandy  5 лет назад +1

      Can you smell gas anywhere? Either around the fridge, cooker, heater or under the van? Is it the gauge that's going down? Just trying to work out how you know you've got a leak?

    • @stevedandy9541
      @stevedandy9541 5 лет назад +1

      I could smell gas when I bent down to sort the stupid fresh water tank pipe coming off, I have a big nose and narrowed the smell down to around the regulator, I took it to Spinneys and they pressure tested it and said it was not leaking and the smell was just the " gas residue" on the regulator. I went to put the heating on today and no gas then realised the Gassit was switched off so when I went under there was no smell and when I switched it on the faint smell came back, it was pure fluke that your vlog came on whilst I was having a brew to calm down! I then hoped it was a leak on the same point as yours but alas no leak there? I've checked all cupboards and valves internally and nothing, so I've just ordered a £20 gas sniffer from Amazon as I'm not imagining it and know sumats leaking somewhere.

    • @dieselbushcraft1299
      @dieselbushcraft1299 5 лет назад

    Hi John, I still haven't gone anywhere in my T669 and it's only done 460 miles so the full tank of LPG filled by the dealer before we picked it up has never been used so I'll be interested to see if this has the same issue. How do they pass the gas safety certificate with this though?

    • @johnmandy
      @johnmandy  5 лет назад +1

      You could argue 6k mile has vibrated the hose loose and it passed the factory gas checks ok, or the dealer somehow caused it, who knows if it even had a gas check? It's worth checking, a sniff around the tank would do for starters, we didn't smell gas inside the van, nor walking past it, but under the van around the tank you could smell gas. Not now though 👍🏻and someone pointed out a quick check is to spray soapy water on the connections and look out for bubbles, great tip I use for checking tyres for leaks too.

      @linz_in_NZ 5 лет назад

      We had tank gas on our old house for hot water and gas fire (no mains here) and the delivery guys do the soapy water test after they connect everything up. When I first has it installed I could hear this hissing, investigated and the numpties who did the install had not connected the pipes up even finger tight...it really annoys me that these people call themselves professional yet they can't do a simple but very important thing properly.

Over a roof road I just have the feeling it will move so I have ordered some steel and I’m hoping to make my own brackets and plus I might be able to fit the tank between the chassis, As it’s a big tank 90 litre and it’s diameter is 300 mm 120 mm long , once I have the tank and the water tanks fitted I can make a start on the inside which should not take me that long .
