It doesn’t hurt that the camera angles usually are far away from objects, so you don’t see the imperfections at all. In RE4, you could stare at the wall and see that the texture is flat and bland
The whole art direction has this realistic style that looks really great still to this day. And I think a big part are the characters, that perfectly walk the line between realistic but "cartoony" enough to not tap into the uncanny valley.
I think it's because Capcom chooses art and style over realism unlike modern developers who are focused on hyper realism which in my opinion looks worse since it crosses the uncanny valley territory
Some scenes in this game were genuinely chilling. Like the beating administered on Danielle at 26.00...the lack of reaction and then the smile! I remember you could still hear the hitting noises as you walked down the hall.

12:30 doesn't work so well as a jump scare, but it's still the scariest part of the game for me. I think the dread and anxiety is conveyed perfectly. The shock of being face to face with a monster gets to me especially if I were as vulnerable as Fiona.

She is blind as heck and that's why she always has an animation of peering closer to objects and she squints while looking at the enemies. So you where on to something here. She does wait till her eyes focus a bit.

It's funny to think that an immortal alchemist who lives for a long time do mercenary jobs once in awhile, plus the fact that one of his dialogue got him slip into his german doctor alter ego

Still one of the best $60 purchases I made on Amazon in 2013. If anything, this is still one of the better horror games to play. The whole concept of the pursuer wanting Fiona to essentially use her as a tool for his or her desperate "need" to 'perfect' their weakness - is not only disturbing, its downright messed up. And by tool, if you have played this game, along watch cutscenes here, you'd understand how f'd up the game over death screens are. Its one of the few game over screens that made me question how did this pass the ESRB rating in 2005. Today, 2021 onward, this wouldn't pass.

I’m still looking for a copy! From my understanding, there are missing isos on the ROM and so I’ve been waiting to get my hands on a copy before playing. I can’t say it’s my favorite game without having played it yet, but if I’m patient enough, once I get a play through done I’m pretty sure I’ll quickly put it on my favorites list

I think the last came I played for Capcom before this was DMC 2 or Clock Tower 3 (awful in my opinion compared to the amazing first 2), I wish I had known about this game though! I used to be such a die hard Resident Evil fan, playing RE1, 2, 3, CV/CVX, DMC fan and Onimusha fan. The irony was I worked at Best Buy during that time frame and further as a manager of inventory. You'd think I would've noticed this game? It's weird I stopped playing games almost entirely between 2002-2005, but Nintendo Wii made me get back into it honestly. Back during the latter half of college I was living with two buddies and all of our GF's actually enjoyed playing it (surprising at the time...girl's liking games unheard of then lol)...ya know we were on yay, drinking and smoking, but still : ) . Man, the 2nd half of college was fun times in my life, it was almost the perfect time to grow up, between yay still being good, and having those crazy long ass nights before going to class/work the next day hahaha..shocked we all graduated somehow and from a highly rated school

Standing firm against the old-fashioned fertility Traditions that are toxic and evil. And the greatest companion that she ever had is a dog that’s more loyal than any boyfriend in existence. Despite her vulnerable moments, Fiona is the most courageous woman ever who is not afraid to stand up for what she believes in.

You know what I liked about this game the most? The off screen brutal deaths. You didn't need to see, all you could do was hear and be traumatized.

RE4's engine would be too much for PS2 I think. Gamecube has 400+ MHz of CPU power compared to PS2's 299 MHz. RE4 on GC looks visually great than PS2.
