I got to 2 minutes into the video and thought..... there's NO WAY I would ever get this all back together again! great vid but beyond me lol
thanks for watching
After having my 50mm sit around for many years not functioning I decided to follow this tutorial and found out I had the same problem. Super easy to follow guide and my lens works perfectly again. Thank you so much!
perfect! happy to help….
Thank you so much for your guide. I bought the lens without realising it has autofocus issue. I followed the steps in the video.
The step that took the longest time was filing to make the gap bigger. It took 4 times repeating to file, place the screws back, turn the barrel and repeat. before it was sliding smoothly. The autofocus is working now. All done within an hour. Thank you for creating this video!
thanks for watching, and your support
Just finished mine. A big thank you for sharing this. My lens got stuck and had the focus issue from long time. Was fun doing it and happy that is working again and like new. 📸
thanks for watching!
Bro I knew thirty seconds into your video that this project was over my head but I couldn’t stop watching really in awe at your ability. Nice man and thanks.
thanks for watching
Worked for me too, the lense had just been collecting dust for many years. I even had the official service partner of Canon in Norway to check what was wrong with it a while back. They concluded that it was more expensive to fix compared to buy a new one. Thank you very much for the video, easy to follow and it worked perfectly on the first try after assembling it.
glad to hear! thanks for watching 🙏
Thank you. You made my lenses work again. You are a hero to all of us who came to see you. Hope you can help us solve many problems.
that is the goal! thanks for watching!
So beautifully done. Concise. Clear. Smart. Glorious!
thanks 🙏
Thanks! Got my newly purchased lens in good working order thanks to this video!
thanks for watching
WOOW - I actually did it - thanks to your perfect tutorial - I was lucky that it was the same error on my lense :) Did the repair in the same matter also - perfect!!!! Thank you so much for creating this video - now i have a great lense again :) And you got yourself a subscriber for sure!!
thanks for watching! Im happy that it worked for you!
enjoy your lens ...
Amazing … had to take it apart twice and the 2nd set of sliders were really sticky after trying to flatten the focus ring, but my lens is now working a treat! I was about to buy a new one after my local photo shop said it wasn’t worth sending it off to Canon to get fixed. Thank you so much for this excellent video 🙏🏻
thanks for watching and I’m glad that you fixed your lens!
Great video! I had a sticking focus ring also. Instead of using a wooden mallet, I got a sheet of 1000grit Wet and Dry paper, layed it on a flat surface and carefully rubbed the distorted side. This worked for me. Also easy to follow video, thanks very much!
thanks for watching and tip!
Thank you so very much! Большое спасибо! You have saved me hundreds of Euros with your helpful and detailed tutorial.
Also, for everyone trying this, I cannot stress enough the importance of that last step that's checking if the white sliding bits can run through their lanes smoothly. I found out one of them was getting stuck super easily in one of the lanes (while going through the other easily), so I filed the former with a regular metal nail file until it ran almost as smoothly there as in the other and now it seems (fingers crossed) this lovely lens is completely fixed!
I'm so happy! The nifty fifty is my favourite and I have dearly missed its splendour.
thanks for watching
ah thank you for this video! my camera would not focus with my 50mm and after watching this, i took my lens apart and learned that the problem was it was a broken slider. i fixed it up and my lens is good as new! i saved myself a couple hundred bucks and i couldn't be happier!!
thanks for watching!
Thank you very much! I wouldn't have repaired my 50mm f1.4 without your video. Because that alloy part seemed alright to me in the beginning and the deformed part looked like a factory design curve. I used your Russian method to align that part with a wooden stick and a bamboo chop stick to maintain the thickness of the canal. So I didn't have to sandpaper it to proved smoothness. I am so happy because I saved my dear 50mm lens and it works perfectly again. Thanks again!
hi, perfect! thanks for watching …
Thanks a million for this awesome tutorial!! I found exactly the same problem with the bend in the alloy ring and was able to fix it.
happy you fixed it! thanks for watching
Very well done. Just finished mine. At first I thought the same thing, that it looked a bit complicated. But once I got into it, it wasn't so bad. The trickiest part for me was getting everything lined back up while putting it back together. But the video was good enough I could find some landmarks on the rings and it went back fine. Very well done. Thank you!
thanks for watching
Thank you soooo much I litterally bought a lens like 4 hours ago and when I was checking it out I saw the issue and thanks to you I fixed it thank you again!
thanks for watching….
You make it look so easy. Awesome video!
thanks for watching
Sehr gut! Ich habe mein 50mm 1.4er mit dieser Anleitung Repariert und es funktioniert!! Wunderbar! Thank You!!!!!!!
danke !
Amazing video, solved my issues! Thanks so much.
thanks for watching please don’t forget to subscribe ...
First time attempting something like this! Worked like a charm. Thanks!
Great to hear! thanks for watching…
Thanks. Mine had same issue and your guide helped me fix it.
Bad design flaw as a light knock to the front of the lens can cause the thin alloy to bend out of shape. Got a working 50 again now.
thanks for watching
Thank you so much for this! Mine had the exact same problem, and this worked for mine as well.
thanks for watching
Great video!! Sanding the guide rails was a perfect idea! My lens works again!!! Thank you!!!
hi , thanks for watching.... sanding is necessary if you go to far and those plastic bits has some resistance along the way...
thanks again
Ryan Pettway My lense has a problem with focus motor it stops 1 is this the same problem
hi , these lenses are notoriously known for focus issues.... 99% you have to follow video.
thanks for watching
TAKEAPART the screw got badly stripped what should I do now
Thank you, this was very helpful!
thanks for watching
Thank You! it helped me so much! Focus was (auto ans manual) only working between 3m and infinite, now the lens is back to work!
happy to help! thanks for watching
You made it look like super easy I’m sure I’ll end up with extra pieces once it’s done.
extra pieces is good …
Holy good god! You are insanely great at repair!
thanks for watching
Worked like a charm! Thank you!
thanks for watching!
Fantastic video,I'm gonna be fixing mine! Way easier than iris fixing on a tamron 70-300! Oh and your fix it the Russian way cracked me up,my style of fine adjustment!!
haha thanks for watching
Thanks for the video. I dropped my lens onto a tiled floor, it bounced very well. It bent a little but after following your instructions it's now working beautifully. Cheers.
hi! Im happy that my video helped you!
thanks for watching
@@takeapart No worries, keep up the great work. 👍
thank you
Just used your video to fix my lens. Thank you!
thanks for watching
I followed your video and fixed my lens, thank you very much x
thanks for watching, I’m happy that it worked for you!
Oh my god finally found this video. M struggling with focus hunting issue too.
hi, yeah ! good luck.... thanks for watching
✔️
My $50 lens went "clunk clunk" but thanx to your vid I now own a $260 lens, I love it. Thank You .
thanks for watching….
Thanks man, just fixed my lens! You could explain the "russian technic" a bit more in detail, because with that one i destroyed my focus ring and had to buy a new one :D
thanks for watching
I tried fixing one of my own lenses one time; a 58mm Minolta MD 1.2 and I messed it up big time. I haven't disassembled another one since. I just love to watch now.
hi, you had nice fast lens! ... some of them are tricky to repair... anyway thanks for watching!
If you still have all the parts, would you sell it to me?
Awesome!!! TY so much bro !
thanks for watching
I'd like to do this myself. Could you tell em the name of the flat paddle tool you were using to ease off some of the pieces?
This fix was amazing. It worked my nifty fifty but autofocus doesn't work at all anymore. Must have not properly got the wires done right. But I mainly only run manual focus so beyond happy that I can use the full range of focus again
thanks for watching
Thanks a lot !
thanks
Good work
thanks
Thanks for the video (y)
thanks for watching!
Thanks for the video, helped my focus issue but my aperture is now stuck. Please advice what to do in this case?
Hi Adin, you have to reverse engineer your steps and look for mistake you have done. unfortunately i can’t help .
Thanks so much. Its the 3rd time it happens to mine...
happy to help! thanks for watching
Legend!
thanks for watching
Wow, you are defenitely a Pro reparing it! I have exact the same problem (focus blocks shortly below 3m focal length) but watching your video I have to admit, that I won´t be able to fix ist by myself. So question: Are you interested in buying mine, since it will took you little time to repare it? Best from Germany, Claudio
Hi Claudio, thanks for watching and your offer! Unfortunately Im not in market for this lens…
wow amazing
thanks for watching
excellent
thanks for watching
I don`t have that much experence with lenses. How can i tell if my lens has a problem, or I lack in focus experience! I have a 50mm nikon on d3400! Thank you! Great video!
well it is hard to explain... I will try ... try different lenses and if you get better focus score than the first lens has some issues... or if all your photos has missed focus than it is most likely the lens ... thanks for watching
The lens got stuck at close focus distances because the sliding mount was bent out of shape as the one in the video. Followed the tutorial and it's working fine now.
perfect! happy it help
I would be terrified to try this, even though this very well could be the issue lol
you can still get replacement parts but it will be costing you more …
@@takeapart oh really interesting, do you recommend a good place for parts? Also any idea how much it would cost? Thanks for getting back to me :)
parts links are in description…. even if you need another part… get in touch with seller and he will create listing with your part .
Awesome video how much would you charge to fix mine it's a 50mm 1.4 its not focusing...
thanks! and I would first ask where are you based?
Thanks a milion! Before i looked at your video I was afraid even to look at the lens, but today I said to hell with it! What's the worst thing that can happen if I slam it with a hammer! LOL! So I did! I took it apart four times before I got it right. Now I need four and a half minutes to take it apart and put it back again! Hahahah! Think I'll name it Nifi (nifty fifty)! And, yeah, it is almost 15 years old and now it works like new one!
glad to hear! thanks for watching!
Works like a charm, the focus ring is great now but autofocus stop working :/ Aperture still works, when push the AF button camera recognize that AF is on but the motor don't show signs of life.
hi, thanks for watching, please check connections inside the lens ... you may forget to connect something. :-)
Did you end up figuring out the problem?
How to know the sliding bent has problem? And what tool i should use to fix that bent? I have the same issue like you, and I tried to open the lense, follow your instruction to open it. However, I dont know how to look and regconize the problem from the sliding.
I appreciate if you can write me some details
it is common issue …. you have to feel it once you have all apart make sure that it slides nicely without any restrictions.
Hi Men, I got lost in the step where you removed the plastic ring, mine does not do that how do you do it
hi, it must do the same…
Woohoo!!! Totally worked... save me $500... THANKS!
thanks for watching
Man I'm crossing my fingers 🤞
After watching the smashing part, lemme just take it to a repair guy, I cannot take such a risk 😂
Will this also work on a 28-135mm? Mine has the same symptoms.
it can … give it a try
Great video! How much would you charge to fix my 50mm 1.4 its not focusing? I live in CA 94521.
fixing isn’t that expensive… shipping is! Im in Germany .
@@takeapart got it. Thanks!
Can I apply this same to the 85mmm?
Hi, it can be similar if not the same … I can’t guarantee
What screwdriver are you using? I think I stripped the screw on the motherboard because I can't get it to catch. Спасибо
hi, It’s normal philips screwdriver... I have normal set nothing special... thanks
PH00 and PH000 should be enough for most work
My 50mm canon has a pulsating focus problem too
it can be also faulty USM motor …
What do I do if I can't take out the three screws in step 1??
well try different drivers
Any ideas how to get pass a tiny strep screw 😔
sorry… I can not remember anymore
Mine is doing the same thing! Would i be able to send mine to you to fix it? i dont trust myself lmao
hi, it depends where are you based...?
What if the focus won’t move at all? I hear a sound like it’s trying to move but it will not move. It won’t move manually or automatically
just follow my video…. it is essentially the same issue.
@@takeapart okay I will do that later, hoping it works as don’t want to replace! Thankyou for the reply :)
thanks for watching! good luck…
Could I send you my lens to get this done ? Also how much would it cost me?
sure man! but Im afraid that shipping will cost you more than new lens...
It gives two versions of this lens, mine has some other part inside, mine is not deformed and you can not look inside, my Autofocus works very bad
hi, I would love to see your lens ! feel free to email me some pictures. info in “ channel info “
@@takeapart i have send it =)
thx , I will have a look
I dropped my lens and it wont focus anymore. I wonder if this will help
hi, you can try out
@@takeapart You're a legend dude. I didn't need to use any Russian technique but taking apart the lens and reassembling it seemed to do the trick. Now the auto focus and even manual focus works! You helped save me from buying a new lens.
Hi, yea sometimes it helps…. Im glad that you got it working! thanks for watching and have a good weekend!!
sorry im brand new to this and i dont want to do this and that makes this suck
hi, take it to some specialist…
2023 update : links in description are new !!! Hi guys, check this video out if you in to fast lenses : ruclips.net/video/Hq5420EptQQ/видео.html and please subscribe ...
Can you fix mine ?
I would like to, but shipping, customs will make it uneconomical
I can open this but cannot close this
hi, it is tricky but if you follow my video it should work.
thanks for watching
Can I just send you my glass for you too fix?
hi, sure you can... look in channel info for email. thanks for watching
Be aware...there are two internal versions of this lens...as I found out.
thanks for update!
@@takeapart Yes the slide ring that bends and has to be flattened is different in mine it's an internal grove not a open slot. Not sure if mine is just older or newer. Anyway its working again. ta!
aha! great…. thanks again
Yeah I'd rather just buy a new one lol. Great work though.
well yes easier option…
Who disliked ?
let’s find out
Maby Canon will fix my for free
yes you are one lucky guy!
Thats way too complicated
thanks for watching
Everything it's fine, but less the Putin's method of oppression... Just buy a new barrel ring, it's only a couple of Rubles.
haha good one mate! you are right but if looking for quick fix without spending rubles this method will work. thanks for watching
Brilliant, thank you, perfect for a usual Canon 50mm 1.4 issue. Well done. @AAAPbristol1
