Thank you so much for your guide. I bought the lens without realising it has autofocus issue. I followed the steps in the video.
The step that took the longest time was filing to make the gap bigger. It took 4 times repeating to file, place the screws back, turn the barrel and repeat. before it was sliding smoothly. The autofocus is working now. All done within an hour. Thank you for creating this video!

Worked for me too, the lense had just been collecting dust for many years. I even had the official service partner of Canon in Norway to check what was wrong with it a while back. They concluded that it was more expensive to fix compared to buy a new one. Thank you very much for the video, easy to follow and it worked perfectly on the first try after assembling it.

Amazing … had to take it apart twice and the 2nd set of sliders were really sticky after trying to flatten the focus ring, but my lens is now working a treat! I was about to buy a new one after my local photo shop said it wasn’t worth sending it off to Canon to get fixed. Thank you so much for this excellent video 🙏🏻

Great video! I had a sticking focus ring also. Instead of using a wooden mallet, I got a sheet of 1000grit Wet and Dry paper, layed it on a flat surface and carefully rubbed the distorted side. This worked for me. Also easy to follow video, thanks very much!

Thank you so very much! Большое спасибо! You have saved me hundreds of Euros with your helpful and detailed tutorial.
Also, for everyone trying this, I cannot stress enough the importance of that last step that's checking if the white sliding bits can run through their lanes smoothly. I found out one of them was getting stuck super easily in one of the lanes (while going through the other easily), so I filed the former with a regular metal nail file until it ran almost as smoothly there as in the other and now it seems (fingers crossed) this lovely lens is completely fixed!
I'm so happy! The nifty fifty is my favourite and I have dearly missed its splendour.

Thank you very much! I wouldn't have repaired my 50mm f1.4 without your video. Because that alloy part seemed alright to me in the beginning and the deformed part looked like a factory design curve. I used your Russian method to align that part with a wooden stick and a bamboo chop stick to maintain the thickness of the canal. So I didn't have to sandpaper it to proved smoothness. I am so happy because I saved my dear 50mm lens and it works perfectly again. Thanks again!

Very well done. Just finished mine. At first I thought the same thing, that it looked a bit complicated. But once I got into it, it wasn't so bad. The trickiest part for me was getting everything lined back up while putting it back together. But the video was good enough I could find some landmarks on the rings and it went back fine. Very well done. Thank you!

@@takeapart You're a legend dude. I didn't need to use any Russian technique but taking apart the lens and reassembling it seemed to do the trick. Now the auto focus and even manual focus works! You helped save me from buying a new lens.
