For a video like this I would be interested to hear your opinion on the different hairs/fiber offered and how they perform for some of the brushes. Maybe a couple of lather demonstrations, can showcase a shave cream/soap at the same time then. Food for thought.

Hi, Matt. Thank you for this video. I'm new to wet DE shaving and I recently bought a Simpson T3. I've been having a bad experience with mine and I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong or if I've received a defective brush.
The brush builds a lather very well but when I try to apply lather to my face, it doesn't lay on thick and evenly. It does the opposite. With each stroke I make, the brush wipes lather off my face. The more strokes I make, the less lather ends up on my face. It's very frustrating. I've tried different shave soaps (Proraso, ToOBS, Mitchell's) and different stroke methods (figure eight, holding the handle, holding the knot etc.) but nothing has helped. I thought maybe the brush needed to be broken in and would work better with time but it's been six weeks and no change.
Have you ever experienced this with a shave brush? Do you have any recommendations?

Synthetic brushes are poor performers for some guys myself included. But try to build the lather on your face in the first place - not in a bowl. Watch more of our videos and you see me do that.

The best Shave Brush on the market today is my Simpson Trafalgar's T-3, better then boar cheaper in the long run, it is 29mm. i mic-ed it' it's like buying a $443.99 Simpson 30mm Chubby 3 Super CH3S Badger Shaving Brush, no cleaning the brush, no need for a brush stand, NO SOAKING time ready to go, fast drying time, . will not fall apart like a Badger or boar hair can and it will fall apart at some point in time, no brake in time, affordable to buy, I have owned it for 5 Years with no hair loss with no problems. I own only One Shave Brush wheelchair Larry Happy New Years

Does England have so many badgers to fill the Simpson brushes? We suspect the hairs are Chinese. We suspect that by buying a simson I am paying for the seaweed for silk ribbons.

England hasn't had badgers for decades. All badger hair comes from south Korea and then processed in china.

@@RazorEmporium Actually we do have black and white badgers here in England. There's between 250 and 400 thousand of them estimated to be in the whole of the UK.

Hey Matt I’m new to shaving with a DE razor and i just cannot get a close shave with it unless i go against the grain (which leaves me with a lot of irritation on my neck) any tips in helping this? My first thought would be my razor. It’s a van der Hagen. A cheap DE from Walmart with the same brand blades. I just wanted to know your opinion on if you think this is the reason i cannot get a close shave. Thanks for the help

Get a better razor. Try a vintage Gillette, or a decent quality one at least. They're an investment and you only ever need to buy a decent one once. I have a few vintage Gillette's and think the slim adjustable is a great razor as you can set the dial to something that suits your needs.
Get a sample pack of razor blades and find one you like. Don't use them too long, they're cheap and disposable.
Get a decent shaving brush, again it is an investment and helps with using less shaving soap and making a better lather. Buy good shave cream or soap, it helps. Prorasso is cheap and one tube lasts me an entire year.
Shaving is a process, not a chore, don't rush it, enjoy it. Try to avoid shaving against the grain unless you like ingrown hair and shaving rash.
Watch more of these videos, they're full of great tips and really helped me.
      Happy shaving :)

I've read in the part that Van der Hagen is a poor quality razor. I agree with the other folks replying to you that you need a better quality razor. Although you probably either know that by now, 4 years after posting this, or you gave up on DE razors, or went out and kept experimenting with vintage Gillette razors like I did.

They're an investment. You really will probably only ever need to buy one in your life. They're far more densely packed than others I have seen and provide great lather with a smaller amount of product so it saves you money over time.
Yep they're quite expensive and are a luxury item so not for everyone.

@@buddhamack1491 I am told they shed hair like crazy and are hence generally not all that well made any more, and that one mainly pays for the brand on a Simpson brush nowadays.Something like a Shavemac or Thäter will probably be better built.

@@mechantl0up My favorite brush to use is actually a Semogue 620. Provided you break it in well its soft but with good backbone and is really cheap in comparison with any badger hair.
