- This is a clip from Amazon Prime Video's virtual panel for San Diego Comic-Con 2021, Comic-Con@Home 2021. They had Hideaki Anno, the creator and chief director of Evangelion, as a guest to promote the international release of the final Rebuild of Evangelion film on Amazon Prime Video on August 13. This version will be the Evangelion 3.0+1.01 version of the film.
“The revisions will be hard to notice”
That’s Anno for ya lol
Just like George Lucas.
@@predalien1413
Why you compare a brat with a genius?
@@predalien1413 the revisions in star wars are far from "hard to notice" my friend
@@SMGJohn George Lucas is not a brat.
@@predalien1413 Not the best comparison. Anno is making more films, Lucas is not
He is so excited when talking about live action movie, even at his age. Good luck to you.
This is how we should all look at life
I dont think it will happen , cuz he once said its the last time he told a story about evangelion , u can it in the 3.0+1.0 title and shinji line said " sayonara , subete no evangelion "
@@chiangmei1265 Did you misunderstood my comment?
It's so adorable. He got to direct a Godzilla film having been a massive tokusatsu fan his whole life, and now he's going to be working on the next Ultraman, which is his favourite show and his biggest influence. It truly goes to show what this man has achieved when he's able to work on his favourite franchises at such a high level, on top of having changed the face of anime worldwide with one of the most commercially successful and deeply loved series ever made.
just watched the movie. Holy shit Anno, but that was fucking beautiful-
Anno is the goat man
It was shit
there are only two types of people in this thread: The ones who love it and the ones that hated it, I loved the movie, even though I still hasn’t entirely understand it yet.
@@hathaway.1166 Well, those in between mostly don't care to post anything. For me it was fine. Not bad, not great, just fine. In the end the Rebuilds series ended up as a mess, with Asuka being a mere shadow of character she was in original series and EoE, while for example Mari was hardly recovered in final movie after being such out of place addition in 2nd and 3rd movie. I fully get the idea behind her, but execution for me was terrible.
6/10. Can see people praising it as masterpiece but for me it's only because of theirs' nostalgia bias.
What I get from the hate is that Anno grew up and a lot of his fanbase didn't.
This man is the definition of an artist. I know he directed Shin-Gojira, but finding motivation to make live action movies at 60 is quite the impressive, most people just want to retire at that age.
Lol kid you are going to live until 100
It’s so nice to see Anno being really happy and satisfied with the fact he finished Eva. It took 16 years and I can say that I grow up with Eva as a person.
I think you meant 26 years. Time moves faster than we think. Evangelion came out in 95'.
He forgot to to ask Anno the most important question, is Pen Pen still alive?
I mean it's literally shown in some scenes
@@HTONYS One might think that Pen-Pen just doesn't care about world reset, after everything is gone, he just remains. So all these pinguins we've seen are Pen-Pens of different realms.
He was, with those other penguins
Pen pen is now god of his own planet where penguins are the dominant species and mankind has been confined to the south pole.
Hideaki Anno is a model of a modern artist! He may be making Japanese art for Japanese people, but he really is reaching people all over the world and bringing us closer to one another and to ourselves. Thank you and respect to Hideaki Anno!!
No kid, he is exporting Japanese culture to a marxist western world that has been corrupted with racism of the woke people and the fascist of the marginalized.
He is based, but he ruined the movie while basically killing asuka
Always good to see Anno smile!
Thank you boss.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Thank you.
100 times thank you Hideaki, take care of yourself, sensei.
The interviewer clearly doesn’t know that Anno has already experience in live action film by the way he poses the question. Not blaming him, since he’s only a voice for Amazon’s PR, but it’s a bit sad they didn’t try to do a proper interview rather than a promotion
meh the whole interview was so .....cookie cutter
You gotta respect the host for mentioning the full name of the movie every time he speaks about it ! That's quite a mouthful
61?! Damn. Our man Anno is ageing gracefully. Hopefully that graceful aging is a sign of more great and beautiful stories to come (even more with Shin Ultraman).
And Shin Kamen Rider
Looking forward to his live action works. Shin Godzilla was incredible
although different from shin godzilla, I'd recommend you check out Shikijitsu and Love Pop, two of his previous works. Shikijitsu is one of my all time favorite films
@@Gustavomazu ohh thank you i'm gonna check them out
I look forward to seeing the finale.
@Code name: Iris Actually it will, after so many Japanese fans asked to do it. Amazon even confirmed it as well...
@Code name: Iris lol the secret ingredient is "crime" XD
Its absolutely phenominal. Its a long film but wraps up every character arc really neatly. Make sure to set aside 3 hours and just soak it in. 10/10
Its great, just watched it.
Quien debería hacer la reverencia somos todos nosotros. Gracias, Hideaki por tanto.
As someone who grew up in an era when anime was very niche, this is so strange and bizarre to see a big company like Amazon treating Evangelion with such honor. I wonder how much of this is fake praise?
@TheBigExclusive Probably a lot lol. I bet Amazon has no real idea of what Eva is and is just showing off that they have the movie on their platform
@@Eva01-jy2qu7pu9r They have no idea the chaos they are gonna unlease on the world.
@Tony Diers i saw shin evangelion 3.0 + 1.0
look it's not for being hater but the only endings that people don't hate about eva is sadamoto's manga.
I doubt that the ending of Shin Eva will satisfy several fans. Much of what works in Japan does not work in America. gintama sells a lot in Japan but on this side of the world it is almost commercially dead.
the rebuilds never had the same impact as the original series in america. and out of 2.0 the other two films passed very without pain or glory on a commercial level mari adore her in Japan and here they hate her
something else the same year he said he wanted them to do more evangleion without him. I mean that in 8 to 10 years we will see another eva anime even less the most likely are the manga or anima.
@Tony Diers Tsurumaki only worked 6 years and Anno worked 4 years full.
He went on to do shin godsila in 2016 and almost gave full weight to kazuya tsurumaki. and he refused to do the last movie alone. sadamoto the character designer also left for 3.0 at the end of his manga he knew how he was going to finish the story and decided to cut his losses.
Yes 3.0 although I collect good money it was a disaster in criticism as a commercial outside of Japan.
I don't think shin eva is so valued outside of Japan classic fans are going to hate her. for the couples and that the symbolism went quite to shit yes.
@@gendochikito2111 the ending was the only thing I liked about that manga
anno is a fucking mastermind
Didn't watch the TV anime series 1st hand because was still kid
Watched the 4 movies of Rebuild of Evangelion 1st hand, from when I was single till I'm a dad
Thats incredible. I remember I watched anime series/movie when I was 17 and got hooked. Now I've been following the new rebuild movies and I'm 29 now. Haha crazy.
the original tv series is another level. yep i still at the time nge evangelion aired in my country i didn't understand why they aired it in midnight. and now i saw the tv series and i must say its amazing i know its full of depression and methapore.
He is so modest about his masterpiece
Amazing ending for a beloved franchise … Thanks Mr Hano 🙏🏻
After watching the entire work of Eva ( original series, The end of evangelion, the manga and the 4 rebuild movies) I can say I witness one of the best masterpieces ever created. Mr. Anno is a damn genius in what it meant the work of his entire life. The last movie is sooo good and adds so much to the story everybody is gonna like it. At last I only got to say is thank you and congratulations Mr. Anno San.
Nahhh. The only master piece was the series, the rest was just experiments
Finished it last night. Not gonna lie, I feel very at peace and a sense of fulfilment for how things wrapped up. It's how I felt about the series finale for Lost. Just absolutely at peace and fulfilled. Everyone gets their happy ending finally. It's not perfect. A little too long and ham fisted. But still the right way to cap off nearly three decades of storytelling from one of the most iconic anime franchises ever. It's insane that this journey began in 1995 and started up again in 2007.
I'd say Hideaki Anno definitely earned his retirement from Evangelion. But I do hope this isn't the last we'll see of Evangelion. Maybe a spin off based on the alternate reality from the original series.
It's implied that the Rebuild is a continuation of the original, or at the very least the end of a cycle of many repeats. This was a popular theory among the fandom, but in this film we get more explicit hints if not straight up confirmations that this could either be a cycle after the original Eva or at the very least the last cycle in a series of a repeating universe.
Take it as you will, after all, as long as we don't get any direct word that says that they are canonically connected, it's all just theoretical. That said, I do like how it's only heavily implied with being bluntly said that both series are in one continuity, it feels like it trusts the viewers to make sense of it like any of the other mess we've dealt with in this franchise.
right? in the same boat with you and watched the original yaers ago - did you want a bit more to see what life is like after shinji gets his happy ending?
i sure did
@@Teddy-od7lp If that's the case this means the manga is also cannon? Even Shin Eva ending similar to manga ending.
@@Teddy-od7lp So, the theory that the rebuilds are a continuation of NGE is one i really like, because it makes sense. In 3.0+1.0 it's basically confirmed that everything repeats in a cycle. But there's a moment in 2.0 that provew it already I think.
In 2.0 Kaworu gets introduced for the first time in the rebuilds. When we first see him, he wakes up in a coffin on the moon, one in a row of many, half of which are open as if he woke up like this many times. And there's a scene, i think it's when Kaworu is preparing to pilot Unit 06, where he says something along the lines of "I look forward to meeting you Shinji, i hope /this time/ will be different.". Like he met him at least once before, despite never having left the moon up to this point.
When i watched this scene on my most recent rewatch of the rebuilds it absolutely confirmed for me that the loop theory is correct. Because why else would Kaworu say that specific thing. He's of course an angel and always destined to meet with Shinji. I think it's not far fetched that him, posessing the fruit of life, as an angel, would never really die and therefore remember previous cycles, like NGE.
Besides, i saw this somewhere else in a comment, cycles like these are pretty common in Evangelion. Like the cycle of running away from the things you're scared of, realizing you can't be happy on your own and returning back to the start, just to have to confront the things you ran away from again, as we see with Shinji.
Manga ended the cycle before rebuild. To me this is just alter route for Anno. Which is just a copy of the manga ironically enough.
he is good on camera looking forward to his future work
Can’t wait for Ultraman
He had the aspect of a man who has finished what he needed to do and can move on to the things he wants to do.
his voice is way higher than i thought
I want to shake Anno's hand so bad. What a gentleman
The last minute revisions strike me as something Misato would do lol
Thanks for uploading
Thanks a lot for this.
I love him so much
What a doll, such a humble and grateful person.
I want to be excited to watch it but man I was really looking forward to watching in IMAX and 4DX. My small screen at my house won’t do justice. It’s bitter sweet cool I get o see it but man not in a small screen. Imma refrain from watching it on Amazon and hopefully they do a theatrical release.
I first watched Evangelion in 1997 or so. I live in the UK, so it took a few years to get here. It seriously destroyed the existing anime landscape, a lot of people compared it to an imagined Japanese version of Star Trek, in its SF complexity. But, Eva also has a psychological depth that Star Trek massively lacks. I seriously seriously love this show :)
Finally, one guy can pronounce it correctly.
It is fun see the guy pronunciating the full english name for the movie in a serious manner.
great interview
tell us the truth Hideaki Anno, did Pen Pen cause the 5th impact!?
Evangelion is way too popular for the industry not to milk some more, but this will probably be the last time we see Evangelion made by Hideaki Anno, hopefully when the time is ripe, they at least choose someone competent enough to oversee the next Eva prosject.
1:45 "what is it that you think attracts so many fans to Evangelion around the world?"
Anno : Depression
Yup, Kamen Rider is the one that he's gonna do next, SO EXCITED!
Is the ultraman one finished yet?

That's interesting. So the ending was planned? I always heard that Anno made the story of these movies up as he went along.
Goddamn, how do you get an interview with this guy?? He's shunned Western press for like 15 years. Very, VERY interested in knowing who I have to pester.

Who knows I remember when Madoka Magica rebellion released in theaters it was very different in some visuals compared to Blu-ray
Met anno at a 5 guys in London. He really didn’t want to be recognised and shortly left. Wasn’t pushy or anything. But I can understand why he’d have that reaction to general public recognising him
@Yellow Flash dude someone sent anthrax to his office. He’s allowed to be scared of Eva fans.
@Yellow Flash u gotta be more empathetic brother
@Yellow Flash that’s bullshit. Having empathy isn’t out of fashion. And it ain’t kissing his feet to understand and respect his fear of fans who’ve literally made attempts to end his life. Stop it man u don’t need to double down
@Yellow Flash what? U doing a bit?

I like how all Shinji had to do was to just talk to his dad for 10 minutes and then you'd save yourself from having to watch nonsensical 3 movies.
Can someone answer is the whole rebuild series coming to Amazon Video?
Yes. All four films will be on Amazon Prime.
@@intermediateo5712 okay cool cuz when I go to the website I only see 3.0+ 1.0 because I still need to see 3.333
@@dr.wolfstar1765 unfortunately the version they have is the 3.33 one but they didn't change that much stuff in it so it doesn't really matter.
Asuka and Shinji shoulda ended up together. Missed opportunity.
The point is that he moved on, to let better things to come...
@@darthraul
No . he wished it. Dumb idea
@@itsbeyondme5560 He wished it, then moved on. That's the point of the beach scene. Asuka and Shinji's relationship was never healthy...
@@darthraul Actually, the only reason it wasn't healthy was because they were both people who had low self esteem and tons of self loathing. It manifested in different ways for each character - Shinji was shy and hid from the world so he wouldn't get hurt, and asuka used Eva piloting as a replacement for genuine self-love (kinda like how girls these days with low self-esteem post tons of Instagram selfies and rely on the likes and comments to know their self worth). She also constantly bullied Shinji because she saw so much of herself in him, and she hated herself (which is totally a real thing - we hate other people for things we hate about ourselves). But it actually would've been appropriate for Shinji and asuka to end up together after learning to accept themselves for who they are. They were two sides of the same coin; they simply manifested their self loathing in very different ways. At the end, them ending up together would've been perfect. As that old saying goes - "you have to learn to love yourself before you can love others". It also would've been perfect, given that the final scene of End of Evangelion was Shinji strangling asuka on the beach. A rebuild version of that scene would've been perfect - where both characters are finally in a healthy place, psychologically and emotionally. And they finally are ready to start a real healthy romantic relationship together. Mari just wasn't a real character. They never built her up enough for her to matter. So shinji ending up with her at the end just falls completely flat. I think the only reason Anno made Shinji end up with mari is because mari's character is inspired by his wife and Shinji is basically Anno. But story-wise it just makes no sense for those two to end up together (I think they had like a total of 5 minutes of screen time together in all 4 movies).
@@lospolloshermanos5659 But that doesn't happen in real life. More likely to find someone else that better suits you, than to end happy clinging to a failed relationship... They ended the healthiest they've ever been, admitting their feelings, and letting go and be happy, and that's enough.

Couldn't stand the editing in this... I'm sure there's a raw video with less PR on the interviewer side that feels more natural.
Feels like they had a video of Anno and then wrote/filmed questions to fit in between his answers lol.
Alguien me traduce que dice
How were you able to contact Hideaki Anno?
This guy has no f’kin idea who Anno is or what Evangelion is. Like couldn’t they have at least briefed him on Anno’s filmography?
Why did he say 16 yrs instead of 14?
Pokemon Dragonballz digimon Deathnote and code geass all better than eva. I was born on Aug 1995
Interviewer talks too much
Why do they always get some low paid intern who doesnt even care about the topic to do the interview?
Anno hates asuka so much, my god, she was mistreated, abused and replaced. He never wanted to see happy asuka and shinji together
Shinji was portrayed from Anno right? Does that mean Anno knew in his depression and loneliness that he was selfish and whiny? I hope that part of shinji doesn't reflect him because I can't stand shinji. Every decision he made was for himself. In the end he finally grew up and thought of others but in the original, his actions were so messed up and disgusting and showed how desperate humans can be for attention.
The difference between doormat and dictator can be subtle.
@realdomdom can you explain? I don't really know what that means.

I'm so disappointed with this film.. it's a mess
Overall film was alright, ending was subpar and highly illogically. Oh Anno the George Lucas of anime.
I liked the last film, but something Anno said at 3:15 did remind of a quote that George Lucas used when he released the Special Editions for the original Star Wars Trilogy, “A famous filmmaker once said that films are never completed, they are only abandoned. So rather than live with my ‘abandoned’ movies, I decided to go back and complete them.”
