Fun fact: the actor who plays Admiral Zhao in this series only took the job because he thought he was accepting a role in one of James Cameron's Avatar movies. He was very confused when he showed up and nobody was blue.

@@XanderMatthews-nv9zf first, this Ozai is bit more complex but they speculated about a "descent into insanity" and him trowing away his already minor redeeming qualities.
Second, it kind of makes sense, Ozai thought very little of that division and he was okay with sacrificing them, so it makes sense he would allow Zuko to bring them with him in a search that was presumed to be endless.
I honestly like this Ozai a lot for now, I guess it makes sense that he would at least be genuenily impressed by the fact Zuko found the avatar even if he hasn't captured him yet (since Aang disappeared for 100 years) but at the same time he's not exactly less evil, as he's far more honest about how conditional his pride and "love" for his children is in this adaption.
@@Paolo-ec2si far more honest? ozai is pretty damn blunt about how he feels towards zuko in the original show. just because he’s banishing him but now for whatever reason he’s doing it “for his own good” and not that he genuinely doesn’t care about him and wants him gone doesn’t make it more honest. if anything it makes ozai make less sense and zuko’s whole arc make less sense. why would we want to humanize the man who will later attempt a genocide and become the sole dictator of the world?

Yue being a fox was the first thing that made me think they didn't know how to make new scenes interesting.
I wouldn't mind them doing it if it didn't screw up things later. Like the owl spirit. If he's showing up in season one, is he also going to be in the library or are they going to find another random spirit to guard it? Someone's got to guard this place or maybe they just overhears some super secret information that can lead to the end of the Fire Nation...

@kamixakadio2441 Bruh. Suki spent the entire episode Eye graping sokka. She was staring at him while he was visibly uncomfortable and mostly nude. The iconic scene where she humbles sexist sokka was done horribly. Sokka isn't sexist this time around, so instead of it being an authentic girl boss moment where you want to see Suki shut Sokka up, it became Suki stalking Sokka into the woods and flexing on him while he is trying to train, then attacking him WHILE HE IS IN THE MIDDLE OF STRETCHING. Nothing about this made suki appealing at all. I am curious as to why you think she was done better here. Care to explain?

The entire series is just so... overexplanative.
In the cartoon, Aang is talking to an unconcious Zuko about friendship before Zuko rejects the idea by attacking him once he "wakes up", literally from being knocked out and figuratively from the blue ghost who already wants to do good. Aang disappears the second he becomes hostile, effectively telling everything we need to know about their relationship.
Zuko could capture Aang with kindness any time of the day but his pride and resulting frustration is what makes this a manhunt. Aang disappears without a fight because that is who he is. A pacifist with no interest in fighting Zuko, but well able to half a normal conversation with him. On the other hand, Zuko attacks without a word - with 0 dialogue. Zukos idea of chasing Aang correctly is what stops him from getting to him.
In THIS series, Zuko wakes up and has a bitchy 5 minute conversation with Aang about that exact concept, dumbed down and preachy to a degree you can only expect from a series that thinks their audience is fucking stupid back to front, intercepted by unnecessary attacks from both sides that make no sense for their characters. But look, slow motion and Aang does a bsckflip - are you watching, hmmmm???
In the cartoon, the Agnikai between Zuko and Ozai is a 10 second flashback that just tells us how fucked Ozai is to put his own child in a life or death fight against his own father, the strongest fire bender at that point ON THE PLANET. Zuko completely refuses the fight, showing his true morale and that he inherently does not care about power like most of the fire nation, but compassion and forgiveness. Iroh then just explains that Zuko was send on this futile quest to torment him day and night by dangling his fatheres love infront of him without even having to be there. Iroh also explains it to the uneasy shipworkers who cannot understand Zuko's personality - to hipefully have them understand the pain Zuko is in and he does so ESPECIALLY when Zuko isn't there to not expose him to his own trauma.
In THIS series, Zuko "holds back" in the fight, not only undermining his peaceful nature to... pittying his father? but then Ozai comes in and just has ANOTHER cringe ass explanation monologue of what just happened in the past scene because we appearently are once again to stupid to have fucking eyes, followed up by Iroh lllliterally telling the audience what is going on - something you had figured out in the first 30 seconds of Zuko screentime.
They could have freeze framed, have Iroh look straight at the camera and have him start "Ok guys, so as you might have noticed - my brother, heh, kiiind of a dick. He doesn't actually want Zuko to come back, ya know. But don't tell that to Zuko, heh. *Gestures wildly* Daddy issueeees. Anyway, now that you are in the loop, let's see how this unfolds" and the scene wouldn't have been worse since that is the level of intelligence, the writing is explaining itself at. He also just says it to Zukos face as if the poor man is literally handicapped and hasn't figured that out in years of chasing a guy who disappeared 100 years ago.
I do not know where that deep desire of writers comes from to implement thrir own scene description in the respecting NEXT scene, but you cannot have your cake and eat it too.
You cannot make a deep and ambiguous scene, but then have a random character come in and EXPLAIN the ambiguity away just so you can stroke your own dick to knowing that eeeeveryone got EXACTLY what you wanted to tell them.
It's like that annoying factoid cinema watcher that sits a row infront of you and constantly talks to his friend like "🤓Ok so what this scene showed was the characters deep hidden love that will be important later but they just used his body language to contradict his words and also a chekov's gun because, as you might have seen the framed sword was shown while he was monologing🤓" blablabla BUT THE GUY IS *IN* THE MOVIE AND JUST TAKES OVER RANDOM CHARACTERS TO EXPOSITION CUM OVER THE WATCHER WITHOUT FOREPLAY OR CONSENT.
I am sorry, but all in all - it's just not good writing.

Brother, I had the same feeling of just, irritance, watching the post-Agni Kai scene, it's a whole sentiment of "Why?", like I (and the larger audience, both newtime watchers & those watching that they've already seen the original animated production) **don't. need. to. see.** the _actual moment_ of Ozai announcing Zuko’s being sentenced to exile, like we know this such that it's been told multiple times by all these other people at this point, this is unnecessary it _hurts._ Like, honestly, it felt... _insulting_ somewhat seeing that.
Another dimension to my criticizing the particular scene is that to me it feels strangely... _too intimate_ of an act on Ozai's part as a parent, that he himself goes in to see Zuko as he's in bed recuperating, 🤨, like this man quite literally _just got done_ **publicly mutilating his child's face,** such was an act done out of (one can only guess) the sheer _shame, disappointment_ and _disgust_ he feels towards Zuko, if anything His Imperial Majesty (as much as we can gleam of his character thru his' seldom appearing in the OG animated show anyway) post Agni Kai would return to his throne room or his office that he'd have one of the palatial servants come in with the official missive to inform His Imperial Highness of his' being banished.
@@Boss_Isaac My best guess is that they wanted to turn him into more of an emotionally manipulative character, but that's just... not what he OR the fire nation is about in the original.
And even if that is what they were attempting to do, they completely failed anyway.
It is such a terrible terrible scene it makes my toenails curl. And not hate to the actors, it is 115% what material they where given.

I agree simply because I hate most of the fans of avatar because bedsides legend of aang the don't like anything else about the franchise, they complain and say that legend of Korra and this live action are terrible things without even making a decent critic.
