Accidentally got a rosehip seed + retinoid oil from Votary, and it's super luxurious and smells divine - but then I realized in contains some red flag essential oils like sandalwood plus linalool and what not, so I just purchased the PSA Midnight Courage and looking forward to try it!
@@MarkThayerSkin Wow thank you for replying☺️ I have combination skin and have been struggling with acne. In the last few months it has been getting worse, especially on my forehead.
Totally! I love helping sort through all the options out there. Getting a retinoid in can certainly help with acne and even balancing combo skin. It does a million things for skin but two of its big effects are normalizing oil production by slowing down hyperactive oil glands and normalizing cell turnover. It takes a few weeks to see these two effects work their magic, but when they do: -skin cells slough off more evenly so they’re less likely to get clogged up in pores and lead to acne -oil glands are more calm, keeping your skin’s moisture balance more...balanced! Which also means that pores aren’t overloaded with gummy oil, which means your skin is less hospitable to p.acne growth Final thoughts, congested pores usually take a multifaceted approach to truly keep at bay, so be patient and make sure you keep to these tips: -gently cleanse your face before bed (no makeup wipes!) gentle is key, the angrier your skin is, the more oil it makes to protect itself -find a gentle retinoid that you can tolerate, use it 2 nights/week and work up to every night if possible but at least 2 nights/week -consider a leave on exfoliating acid (for combo skin I like acid toners/liquids the best) salicylic acid and willow bark do better with acne/pore concerns, but glycolic, lactic, mandeic, and other AHAs will help too! ( for you I suggest Heroine from PSA or if you want super gentle try Peach and Lilly’s The Good Acids Pore Toner) -always use a moisturizer! Combo skin needs some balancing love and using a lightweight moisturizer regularly will help normalize your skin. Hope this helps! 🖤🖤-MT
I’m looking to start using retinols and I have this product and was really worried about seeing that 2% retinoid but you really broke it down and I feel way more confident just starting out!
Hmm, I’m not sure I’m the best person to review a blended acid product, but I’m happy to look into it. My skin is suuuuper touchy about acids so I don’t feel like my review would be very applicable to most folks. What are you interested in GOALS for? Pigment? Overall texture, pores, etc? 🖤🖤
Hi there, your video was very useful; I bought it for Christmas for my brother in his 30s who's new-ish to skincare (he does have a very basic routine set ATM but asked me for some extra products). I hadn't noticed it was an actual retinol serum and thought it was just a bakuchiol product. I still think it looks interesting enough to test out. However, I see it has 2% retinol and I'm a bit scared; do you think it's going to be very (too) strong?
I’m so glad you enjoyed my video! Good on you for starting your brother on good skincare, he will certainly thank you! [Warning, this gets nerdy. The short answer is: he should be fine, this is a retinOID which is much gentler than retinOL.] Good question, this formula is “2% retinOID” and in this case they’re talking about “granactive retinOID” or hydroxypinacolone retinOATE [HPR] and it’s sidekick dimethyl isosorbide. 2% retinOL would be pretty strong stuff, but thankfully (but a bit confusingly), 2% granactive retinOID is actually 0.2% HPR and 1.8% dimethyl isosorbide (a penetration enhancer and solvent). We can’t compare percentages of retinOL with retinOIDS directly but it’s safe to say 0.2% is a nice, gentle place to start for most folks. HPR is newish so there isn’t much data on it but it does appear to be slightly more effective than retinOL and less irritating to boot! All that said, retinOIDS are best used consistently, so starting with just a couple nights/week and slowly working up to every night is your brother’s safest bet. Hope this helps! Thanks for bearing with my nerd-out on ingredients. 🖤🖤 -MT
Definitely! Especially if you’re just starting out, putting your retinoid after moisturizer will help buffer it, making it a little less irritating. 🖤🖤-MT

Glad it helped! What’s your skin type? What are you looking to tackle for concerns?

can i use this over a moisturizer ??

do i use this at night daily?
That would be ideal! But still a good idea to start just a few nights per week and work up to nightly. Hope this helps!
