I have to say, Joey, this is a really innovative and brilliant idea for keeping the channel going during the quarantine. I'm finding the content genuinely interesting and really fun to watch.
Good stuff, thanks. It's nice to know even a pro has problems jointing the edges of boards for seamless widening joints! Also, it's comforting knowing you are being supported by the community. Cheers, David
Nice work Joey Planing 5mm off a board is a thankless task, you could use your two planes on their side to check the wind - if nothing else, it gives you a minute for your hands to cool down!! Chris
Could you use your 2 longest planes as improv winding sticks? Or possibly the legs...... not the side that's been tapered, of course! Not 100% sure on how you use winding sticks, I just know what they look like. It's looking good so far 👍
Joey, you are a true craftsman and do amazing work. I love how you’ve taken over your kids playroom but still allow the kids in there to “help”. My kids love to help me in the garage too even tho they’re not very helpful. (Just don’t tell them that) Keep up the good work & stay safe during these difficult times.
Heya thanks for this. Stay well. Have fun. Amazing how stable your workbench design looks for the planing. When edge jointing to join i had good success clamping boards together so you plane both edges at once. Any angles off 90 cancel out. Sorry hard to explain.
Hi Joey , two carpenter folding rulers or levels for winder sticks work ok , to joint edges quick to get very close stack the intended joint edges as you intend , then fold top stacked joint on top up against edge to joint , being back to back , line edges up if different heights and plane away the both surfaces and when fold back up on top mirrored joint occurs, which makes the but joints become a mirrored against each edge . think of it like this , if wanting to joint 2 plywood edged and have a12mm router bit you would line up 2 sheet edges on flat surface if rough cut, and leave a 10mm gap between both edges and trim straight of through joint making a seamed straight edge routed joint , same as a hand plane method just doing it back to back in vertical method, , when doing a fixout and must joint and site laminate ,this is the method I have used now over 20yrs taught by the old school , love video mate , hang in there with C0-19 im in same boat as site in aus will close this week .
Always found it easier to flatten a convex board by making is slightly concave first. Plane right down the middle, then plane across the grain to flatten the board. Noticed that my planes like to follow convex boards a lot more, even with a jointer plane.
Hola Joey! Can you use the flat edge of the planes, two of them, as your winding sticks? My woodworking instructor did that back in the day for speed as he didn't want to drop one thing for another
Even on planked tops that wide I use a slight spring joint. Maybe just a few thou open in the very middle. You can never get perfection with hand tools. I can't anyway.
My guess is that the reason that you’re always having that gap when to edge joint your boards is that you’re warping the plane by pressing too hard on the toe. If your blade is sharp, you don’t need any pressure at the toe, and my bet is that your problem is go away.

Hold the boards together plane both edges at once if possible and then fold back to a flat the resulting joint should be good.

Hi Joey. Could you use the 2 planes on their sides as winding sticks? Keep up the great work.

10:45 Substitute glue brush - brush wife uses to put eggwash on the pastry.
I'm totally guilty of doing that. A dough scraper works really good on large surfaces!
To begin, thank you Joey for continuing to post your videos. Always interesting and educational, great content! Stay safe and healthy.

Man, you are a beast. Twenty minutes of hand planing and my arms and shoulders are on fire.
Winding sticks - 2 child's rulers? Or two pastry rollers from the kitchen, don't tell SWMBO.
5 mil? Geez. At that point you don't need a plane you need an adze lol
Keep your videos coming, we'll watch. Hopefully you will get some extra income from it.

Glad some of your worries have been resolved! You are going to have a renewed appreciation for power tools when your back at your shop!
What, no dominos? Looks great Joey. I enjoy watching.
I wonder if you could fine tune the edge gap with a scraper and contact marking powder.
You have two planes. Place them on their sides and use them as winding sticks.
So happy to see the pressure let up on you, Joey. Small businesses are so hard hit by the measures to stay safe.
At the end of this serie you gonna have a great cameraman and a nice handmade piece !👍👍👍

Ps. That is beautiful walnut .
Pps. Stay safe and keep doing what you're doing. Much love from England.
Kiddo Kam is awesome Joey. Has a real future there
Watching the next video , love hand tools . 😊👍
Use 2 spirit levels as winding stick
I wish you all the best man stay safe.
super le travail j'adore fait main
Is that cameraman union? If not you're gonna be in big trouble...
Union membership is voluntary here. Just child labour laws to worry about...
Are you not allowed to go to your shop anymore?
Not for more than a quick check . We are locked down in house for at least 4 weeks.
