    the author does like to from scratch, shaping and trimming wood from large blocks into fine finished products. ruclips.net/user/postUgkxD-QRFQz730FJEh4f9BYSf-nkIMIC9hL_ as another reviewer mentioned, most projects require a lot of high-dollar equipment that most of us dont have the room or budget for. But, knowing how to do these things, even if we wont be able to practice the full stack project, is still great.

    The problem with getting older is that it takes a lot to be impressed. This sure is an exception as this is workmanship of the highest level.
    Excellent job to say the very least.

    That stud mould/template...the unsung hero of this project. We've got a lot to cover off in the podcast...so many questions!!!

    • @atothezeezee

      For sure. I would love to see a video explanation of how you mapped the staircase in space.

    • @garethheathcote4988
      @garethheathcote4988 4 года назад +2

      Atothezeezee there is a video on RUclips from an English craftsman well it's actually in around ten parts where he calculates,draws out and then constructs on site a sweeping curved staircase and it is well worth watching. His is actually small than this as it's only one section but it does nearly a full turn back on itself and has closed stringers where oak treads and risers are routed in to the strings which along with some other quirks adds a lot more to the project in terms of volume of work and time taken.(I don't say that trying to take any of the respect due for the craftsmanship shown in this video but just to give you a gist of the video.) the English guy--tony constructs a similar stud work cage as the one seen in this video and he explains every single step in a way that leaves you fully understanding how to do one yourself.
      If you search- build with A&E you will find the videos they are well worth watching!

      King post timber works you made a lovely job of these stairs,I watched a similar video from the English Channel"build with A&E" where he built a slightly similar staircase but with some different quirks such as oak treads routed in to curved closed stringers.
      Between yours and his videos I have learnt one heck of a lot about building curved staircases this week.
      Thank you for documenting your craftsmanship sir.

    Hi Joey! I have built close to 100 free standing stairs like this one here in Southern California. My company was named FREE STANDING STAIR. After 2008 recession I chose to change careers. It is cool to see you figure out the brackets for the top of stairs. I have made many brackets out of 1/4" steel with a gusset added for straight. I used a 9" paint roller to apply the paint and worked out of 5 gallon buckets. Nice work and nice to see someone else tackle this type of project. It is a stressful job but pays well.

    Impressive build - interested to know how you dealt with installing the guarding neatly with those newels offset from the floor edge as they are.. I'm in the middle of building something much simpler - two straight flights - but getting the guarding to work neatly has been a PITA as the floors had all been finished and the floor openings not made big enough to accommodate a simple design and easy install.
