I watched Sid Caesar through his entire career, and loved this GOAT and his writers and costars. They broke the mold with them all !!! My cousin, Hal Kantor, was his assistant to producer of Show of Shows. There never will be a replacement!!!
Funniest man ever. We have come so far in perceiving, testing for, and treating addiction and disorders. And Mr. Caesar intelligently went about living a sober, healthy life without a lot of the useful labels we have now. He never says the word "bulima," but it seems he might have suffered from it. Today, his father's morning drink might have might have sent up a red flag for genetic predisposition. I am always so impressed with his steely determination to enjoy his life. His book, and its update "Caesar's Hours" inspire me.
It is very understandable how Sid burnt out so badly with the booze and the pills...The schedule was completely insane, the ratings pressure was unreal, putting on a 90 minute live show for 39 weeks a week was a killer, and in nearly killed Sid
Thank God, Sid didn't die from all the pressure -- his perseverance & hard-won perspective on life (as reflected in this interview) are truly inspirational.
I imagine any performer who has managers that are money-hungry idiots, has thought about or started to use something that helps them keep up with the over-booked schedule.
@34:00 - I think it would be wonderful to get Sid Caesar’s take on the progression towards artificial intelligence possiblities these days. If he’s not already rolling over in his grave that is. There’s only one Ceasar.. and his name is Sidney.
Love you Sid. Thanks for all the laughs. You are a comic genius.
