I guessed it! I knew it was going to be a Harry Potter book! I just saw a video explaining about the Harry Potter books something that I didn't know. They published two versions of each book. A version for British and non American readers. And then they published an American version. And it's because of our definitions of words. One example is Americans say "Flashlight" and the British say "Torch". So to avoid confusion they made us our own little version because they just knew that Kevin Tollhouse doesn't know that The "Boot" of a car is also the "Trunk" of a car! Thanks Kevin! -James & Bella!
Hello, Kevin! Oh God! I'm with you on that scene with Harry and Dudley! My favorite moment in all the books. 😢 Couldn't believe they left that out of the movie, but it is a deleted scene. ✌️😃
Hey Albert! I have yet to watch the movies…i think i am scared they may tarnish the memories i have from reading it. Not sure i will…hope you are having a great start to the weekend!
Here's my 5 The Beach, Alex Garland. Gen X's Catcher in the Rye Cat's Cradle, Vonnegut. Bizarre story featuring an absolutely terrifying WMD. Dark Tower, no need to elaborate. 20th Century Ghosts, Joe Hill. I've been haunted by many of these short stories. And finally one I read early this year and it keeps creeping into my mind, calling for my return. Ringworld by Larry Niven. It may not have the same effect on others, but I'm itching to read the sequels and revisit the original.
I feel you on having to redo videos... Lately I've been struggling to get thru one take without stopping it and redoing it because I don't like how it went. Be back to comment after I watch.
Happy Friday friend! Hope you are well. And yes, you totally nailed it! Nothing beats the first time reading a good book that stays with you. Hope you have an amazing weekend Pat
I love this idea!! Especially because I’ve read books and afterward I’ve thought “that was pretty good but, it’s not a favorite” and then I’m still thinking about it months later. 😅
Okay I'm back as promised. So hail Mary number two is such a great book. Absolutely love that story. And number four your Louis L'Amour. That's actually quite awesome that you're putting that into your top five considering you never read a western before. I've not read this one yet so I'm highly interested in it now seeing how you like it so much.
Great list of books Kevin! By the way I finished Fool's Run, and I really enjoyed it❤ the computer stuff was really dated though being from the 80s. I also found it funny when they talked about looking for a phone booth so they could make a call, several times!
I know right…its funny how those technical aspects time-stamp a book and make it seem very old…the Matthew Scudder series by Lawrence Block has some similar elements around hacking the phone company that would never fly today. Glad you enjoyed it Robert. The other 3 are also good with the 4th The Hanged Man Song being my Favorite.
Oh my, I have not read any of these but they sound great (well, maybe I would skip Harry Potter).😂 Ray Porter also did a turn as Raymond Chandler's Philip Marlowe on audiobooks. They might be hard to find now because many of the Marlowe stories have been re-done on audio but with Scott Brick. He's good but Porter just seemed to capture Marlowe's cynicism better.

Lol, i did know they produced two published versions…however, i did not know Boot of a car meant trunk. Thanks for the insight James & Bella!

Great choices Jack. Really good! Like Dark Tower, Catcher and Joe Hill picks especially!
As Brian Lee Durfee says, 'I'll edit that out!'
Exactly! Nice. I don’t think i have seen you comment before, welcome!
Nice Content Kevin keep it up.
Thank you very much!
Great idea. I agree, this list will change inevitably.

Thank you very much!
Yes, Project Hail Mary was sooo good! I also listened to the audiobook and it was GOLD. One of the best
Indeed!
I got to grow up with the Harry Potter books and the Deathly Hallows was like the final death knell into my childhood/adolescence. Great pick!
Thank you very much. Hope you are doing well!
@ Doing well thank you. Hope you get to feeling better. Colds suck, and you don’t bounce back as quickly as you did when you were younger.
@Adventures_in_Literature very true on both fronts!

Great video, Kevin. I totally get the feeling of wishing you could be discovering a beloved book again-for the first time. 😊

@ you too, Kevin. I hope you are able to get rid of that cold too!

I have also had that. How to Lose the Time War is one of those books for me!
@ Oh man! I LOVE This is How You Lose the Time War!

You could fly through it…it’s a ton of fun and a fast paced one!
@kevintowle9665 I will add it to my short list... Even tho the Sackett thing is taking up my time.

@kevintowle9665 thanks Kevin, I will certainly carry on with the Kidd novels, and then I will start reading the Prey novels!

Oh nice. Yes, Brick is good, Porter is better for sure! I need to check out Marlowe.
