Love your recommendations. I can't wait to get more GGK in the lineup for 2025! I was listening through the speakers in my car and when your intro came on, I felt like I was being called to fight crime.
I love that your top 50 has so far been filled with so many books I have never heard of before, all the hidden gems! Can't wait to read some Justin Cronin myself, I have heard nothing but great things :)
The Summer Guest blew me away. I'm flabbergasted that it doesn't get more love and attention. The emotional family struggle playing out in an idyllic setting, in that way it reminds me of two other favorites East of Eden and Sometimes a Great Notion.
A lot of these I've never heard of but sound very interesting. The Given Day is one in particular that catches my eye, I need to move up my TBR, but Lehane has so many highly praised novels that I get choice paralysis on which one to read first. The Ocean at the End of the Lane and The Lions of Al-Rassan I've read and love both!
More exciting picks, Josh! My prediction for how many books from The Lord of the Rings will appear in your top 50: One. Because it’s one book. 😁 Okay, in all seriousness, I’m guessing all three!
Three is a safe bet! My whole life I've thought of them as three books until about 5 years ago. Plus I made it part of my top 10 book series list so I need to stay consistent!
I agree with you about The Hobbit and The Lions of Al-Rassan (especially The Hobbit). One can never grow so old and stuffy that he or she cannot enjoy such whimsical fantasy. I plan to read more Guy Gavriel Kay after The Lions of Al-Rassan, and they're staring at my on the bookshelf. Better get busy!
Another great list! I read The City of Mirrors in October and I also cried. The Passage is my favorite of the trilogy. My next read by Cronin will be The Ferryman but adding The Summer Guest to my TBR. And will also read The Lions of Al-Rassan.
Okay now I have to read GGK. I also loved The Passage trilogy so will have to check out Cronin's other works. I've had Atonement for years but am yet to read it as I saw the film. Might have to add it to my neverending TBR. I'm very much enjoying your lists. Looking forward to the next.
These just keep adding more and more to my TBR lol Forever and The Summer Guest definitely getting added. A few of these were already on it thanks to your other reviews 😅
My tier list for GGK so far starting with the best is : Lions of Al-Rassan, Song of Arbonne, Sarantine Mosaic & A Brightness Long Ago…taking a break from his catalogue to read The Last King of Osten Ard & Malazan!
I read my first GGK this year and it was Lions of Al-Rassan and I thought it was fantastic. I also read The World According to Garp a few years ago and watched the movie with Robin Williams. They both were pretty good. Awesome video Sir.
I'm looking forward to read that Neil Gaiman book. You definitely need to do more short books and novellas(up to 300 pages) recommendations for those of us that really have little time to read, but we want to really use that time well.
All 3 LOTR will make it as well as all your GGk reads and most of Realm of the Elderlings . Also throw a King, Hurakami, Connolly, Lehane and a composer bio in there too! I think Cristo & Dickens will be in the top 10 too! Song of Arbonne or a Fitz book as #1! 🤗
Love this video series - you make me want to read all those I haven't read yet. I've only read the Tolkien, GGK and Moorcock (all big faves) so far. I'm definitely going to read all of Lehane because of you & now I'm eager to try Cronin!
Atonement is so good, yet so sad. I think we'll see Tolkien 4 more times. I remember really enjoying The Given Day. I'm torn between that and Mystic River as my favorite of his
Really great list of books! I need to read GGK because I haven’t yet. Also, I’ve been wondering for a while (I’m working through your old videos to the new ones) do you like James Patterson or is this an author you cut out for your crime fiction?
I haven't read any Patterson actually! I started one and found the prose awful, but it wasn't him: it was someone writing the book and using his name (James Patterson WITH another name), so I actually haven't tried him.
What a “remarkable” set of books! 😂 You really sold me on these! I can’t wait to get to The Given Day and am still so eager to get to Justin Cronin and GGK. Loving this series and can’t wait for the next installment, my friend!
I somehow expected Hobbit to be higher up on the list because of how much you love Tolkien. Makes me even more curious to see what's higher up on this list!
Atonement took me a while to get into but I ended up liking it a lot. I have Saturday from McEwan in my tbr soon. The Passage was good but i think a little overlong and have some issues with the plot. I didn't feel like continue the series at the time but might in the future. Great list!
Yesterday I nearly started Lions of Al-Rassan but decided on Grace of Kings instead. However, I think I’ll read Lions next month. I’m surprised you’re gonna count the individual LOTR volumes separately. Now I’m wondering if books 10-1 will just be Robin Hobb, with A Song for Arbonne thrown in for a bit of variety. ;)
I have 3 audible credits to spend, I like fantasy or stephen king could you recommend something? Just finished needful things after your top 10 of king and had a fun time with it
I can't vouch for King or Fantasy audiobooks because I've honestly never listened to either on audio! But I've heard The First Law books are great on audio. The first one is The Blade Itself.
Love your recommendations. I can't wait to get more GGK in the lineup for 2025! I was listening through the speakers in my car and when your intro came on, I felt like I was being called to fight crime.
Red Fury = new Marvel superhero?
Thank you for recommending "Forever" and "The summer guest". ❤️ They blow me away.
Awesome!!!
I love that your top 50 has so far been filled with so many books I have never heard of before, all the hidden gems! Can't wait to read some Justin Cronin myself, I have heard nothing but great things :)
Glad to add to your TBR! :)
The Summer Guest blew me away. I'm flabbergasted that it doesn't get more love and attention. The emotional family struggle playing out in an idyllic setting, in that way it reminds me of two other favorites East of Eden and Sometimes a Great Notion.
YES! Glad to find someone else that has read The Summer Guest!
Thanks for the great video series! Your enthusiasm is contagious! More books for my TBR 🤓
Thank you! :)
Honestly with Lehane, just about anything can be a great entry point!
Three is a good guess even if lotr is counted as one. Lotr, Silmarilion and Children of Húrin. 😂
@ Yes!
I hope you continue to love your GGK journey!
I love hearing your passion for these books 👌
Thanks, Al!
The Passage!!! Such a great book! I read the second book in that series, but I don't think I read the third. Absolutely incredible character work!
Absolutely!
Another great list! I read The City of Mirrors in October and I also cried. The Passage is my favorite of the trilogy. My next read by Cronin will be The Ferryman but adding The Summer Guest to my TBR. And will also read The Lions of Al-Rassan.
I hope you love The Summer Guest as well as The Lions of al-Rassan!

The never ending TBR is real! At least we'll never run out of books to read! Glad you're enjoying these lists!
These just keep adding more and more to my TBR lol Forever and The Summer Guest definitely getting added. A few of these were already on it thanks to your other reviews 😅
I hope those work for you!

I read my first GGK this year and it was Lions of Al-Rassan and I thought it was fantastic. I also read The World According to Garp a few years ago and watched the movie with Robin Williams. They both were pretty good. Awesome video Sir.
Thanks, man, I appreciate it!
I'm looking forward to read that Neil Gaiman book. You definitely need to do more short books and novellas(up to 300 pages) recommendations for those of us that really have little time to read, but we want to really use that time well.
A short novels and novellas video is on the docket for sometime in early 2025!
You know my tastes well... Most of these (but not all - stay tuned!) are pretty accurate!
Love this video series - you make me want to read all those I haven't read yet. I've only read the Tolkien, GGK and Moorcock (all big faves) so far. I'm definitely going to read all of Lehane because of you & now I'm eager to try Cronin!
Glad to hear it! I hope those authors work for you!
Atonement is so good, yet so sad. I think we'll see Tolkien 4 more times. I remember really enjoying The Given Day. I'm torn between that and Mystic River as my favorite of his
Lehane's S tier books honestly change around a bit for me depending on my mood, but The Given Day sits at #1.
The sci-fi police is here to issue you a written warning for dangerously low levels of sci-fi! 👮♂🚀📚
(I still enjoyed this video)
I can confirm that 3 of the 10 books on the next list are from the science fiction genre!
@ We will stake out this next video!

I got The Lions of Al-Rassan on kindle this week on a deal. I plan on reading it after Lonesome Dove. :)
Foreshadowing: I'll be talking about Lonesome Dove in a future video!
What a “remarkable” set of books! 😂
You really sold me on these! I can’t wait to get to The Given Day and am still so eager to get to Justin Cronin and GGK. Loving this series and can’t wait for the next installment, my friend!
Thanks, Ian! You have some great Lehane books ahead!
Added The Summer Guest to my list to read in June. Sounds right up my alley.
I love your handle. :)
Penny, I think you'll really enjoy The Summer Guest!
I too have read The Hobbit more than any other book.
I somehow expected Hobbit to be higher up on the list because of how much you love Tolkien. Makes me even more curious to see what's higher up on this list!
Stay tuned! :)
Hi Josh, another great list thanks 🥳 i managed to get a copy of Forever, but havent read it yet hoping to get to it at Xmas 🎉
I hope you enjoy it - let me know!
Atonement took me a while to get into but I ended up liking it a lot. I have Saturday from McEwan in my tbr soon. The Passage was good but i think a little overlong and have some issues with the plot. I didn't feel like continue the series at the time but might in the future. Great list!
Thank you! Saturday has been on my TBR for awhile too.
Yesterday I nearly started Lions of Al-Rassan but decided on Grace of Kings instead. However, I think I’ll read Lions next month.
I’m surprised you’re gonna count the individual LOTR volumes separately. Now I’m wondering if books 10-1 will just be Robin Hobb, with A Song for Arbonne thrown in for a bit of variety. ;)
Haha time will tell with how often Hobb is up there. I decided to count LOTR separately as that's how I thought of it for years.
I still need to read the 3rd book in the Passage trilogy And I also wanna read The Ferryman
I've enjoyed everything by Cronin so far.
Hey Josh, great video. Only your timestamps are from your previous top 50 video.
Great save - thank you! Fixed it.
@@RedFuryBooks I know it inspires people to skip parts, but it is also some sort of itenerary to a video. Thnx!
I have 3 audible credits to spend, I like fantasy or stephen king could you recommend something? Just finished needful things after your top 10 of king and had a fun time with it
Definitely spending one on The summer Guest sounds like something interesting to read
I can't vouch for King or Fantasy audiobooks because I've honestly never listened to either on audio! But I've heard The First Law books are great on audio. The first one is The Blade Itself.
The good news is that you don't have to assign more than one place to the three books of LotR as they're all one book and always have been. 😁
Yeah, true...
