Wolf O’Donell was like a mentor to Fox in Star Fox Assault. Even though they were rival met a, they had a mutual respect for each other. That line “don’t hesitate. When the time comes, just act” is something I’ve carried with me since I first heard it in Assault. That’s why I like him so much.

I really loved wolf because he's liked a father to me and he's the reason why I'm alive today and helped me achieve my life term goals during past times. Without him I would feel like I have no one else to lift me up the way he would do for me. I really wish he was here so I can ask him questions! about what he likes to do for his own time. Thank you for this interview kitsune network

Loved playing as Wolf in SSBB + SSBU, I hope Jay is doing well these days!
It would be so cool if I was to show him some of my Smash screenshots featuring Wolf as well as some of my Animal Crossing NH ones with my favorite villager Lobo cosplaying as him (and maybe some where he's not cosplaying as him)…
Sometimes I wish we got a spin-off game based on him even though it would be a long shot! Also talking about Wolf having drinks was kinda fun!
Awesome interview, and I'm glad I was part of the premiere!

When I saw you had gotten an interview with Jay Ward, I was beyond excited. This was an absolute pleasure to listen to. From Wolf, Panther and Peppy in Brawl to 64 3D as Wolf and Yaru, and Wolf from there in Zero, Ultimate and Starlink, Jay is simply a phenomenal voice actor. (Honestly, if you go so and listen to Panther and Peppy in Brawl, and then Wolf in all the other games after that you'' notice that that's unmistakably Jay's voice.)

Sorry, this took quite some time to think about and a lot of courage.
Wolf O’Donnell is quite the Role Model/Crush for me, as he helped me through a lot in my early school years.
I suffered extreme bullying, discrimination and a manipulative toxic relationship, where I would spend most of my school days alone on the playground and then in high school by the lunch table.
So it changed for me when I got my GameCube on Christmas when I was 7, Where one of my first games I discovered and played Star Fox Adventures and mate... I loved the game!
Later on, I played Smash Bros Brawl and Ultimate with Wolf as my Main.
So I continued exploring the series where I learnt about Wolf.
My opinion was “Wow, What a Badass!”. XD
However, discovering how Wolf is an Anti-Hero reached out to me, as I felt the same.
I have a history of making mistakes and struggling to move on from the past.
Jealousy is Toxic, especially when I was pushed away from everyone, used as therapy, yet they wouldn’t help me and so on. XP
Yet watching Wolf push through all the rubbish in the series and still standing fierce against his foes was eye-opening for me, especially in Star Fox Assault, where his iconic line “Don’t hesitate! When the time comes, Just act!” was said to Fox McCloud.
I was amazed at how he helped his Rival and personally thinking about my previous Jealousy and Hatred for those who hurt/humiliated me.
Wolf taught me how to move on during high school, that till this day, being Age 22.
I controlled my anger issues, made lots of friends, has a handsome boyfriend and is pursuing goals better. Also I have my Wolf Fursona, Zerafon ;p
I also learnt how to deal with others attempts to hurt me, and I stand my ground much better.
So, that is the Reason I could honestly rant more about him XD
I want to say Jay Ward did a spectacular job on being Wolf, and I 100% look forward to seeing if he gets in more future games.
I do believe Starlink Wolf is the best version so far, but regardless, I love each version of them!
Also, I’m a Tea lover too!
Jay Ward has made my life X3 💜🐺

I hate Starlink's version of Wolf in writing, but I do love Jay Ward's voice & acting in all games, so call me conflicted there! For any future Star Fox project, they really should keep him.
Wouldn't say I main Wolf in Smash (more of a Marth & Kirby guy), but I do love playing him, even though I side-B a lot out the stage! Most of my SDs are with him clearly, the dang thing has too small a hitbox, but it's so stylish to land.
As for opinions of the character for 34:24, it's a doozy, and it's difficult to articulate without sounding ranty.
I've always been more interested in the character showing signs of positive development, growing past the feud and swallowing his pride, even showing a bit of banter and comradery. 64 he was plain toxic and only in the Japanese version he admitted saying "Incredible! You're better than me!" for taking his arrogance and superiority complex down a peg. In Zero technically more agressive but that post-game fight shows nuance big time with his "low health" line praising Fox to be just like his father, and it was SUPERB for an antagonist to have Fox's inner conflict of not living up to his father's legacy come to a conclusion. In Assault's later half, Wolf showcases a lot more humanity and the final stretch where his sacrifice in playing support is him admitting that Fox is better and is the only one who can save everyone, even though his feud is about trying to prove he's better than Fox. Command has Star Wolf wanting to become good/more honest, and despite the very broken writing there and even more broken localisation (to be charitable), it felt like Imamura's authorial intent was for him to go through a positive change throughout the series and change his ways.
To me, Wolf is a Vegeta type character in his development who's all about that honor and who starts out rather despicable at least on the surface but ends up a lot more nuanced as it goes on. He's also mostly only a personal threat to the hero, not a widespread one to base a plot around. At base, he is just supposed to be a random mercenary with high skill in the grand scheme, who takes any job, good or bad, as long as it pays.
Starlink really cranked up the evil and invented a galaxy-threatening motivation and function that I think don't really mesh well with the mutually respectful rival relationship with Fox. The people who love his character for the evil and him making a harsh contrast with Fox's justice and seeing all of Wolf's actions and words in Assault as faking the sympathy & keeping the "I will kill you next time" aspect with a deadly rivalry with Fox that'll only die with one or the other dying will likely love this interpretation, but me I was just left confused because not only the gray area was gone, the dark was boosted really high. Assault Wolf and Starlink Wolf just cannot be the same person in my opinion.
I comfort myself thinking Starlink is only a "What If" scenario, since Wolf has so much firepower in Starlink that it's legitimately insane it doesn't appear in 64/Zero (and even Star Wolf was born completely on the spot in the Lylat Wars, implying Wolf had no ally before), and bunking in a dinky space station that's a sitting duck in Assault as someone seen as a galactic conqueror would logically have Corneria burning it to the ground super quick. It'd also happen before Falco leaves (4 years after 64/Zero) and Andrew gets kicked out (which should be "very shortly after" to "immediately after" 64/Zero since he was the trustfund kid of the team that nobody liked, so exit Andross = exit Andrew), in the end the timing & likelihood of everything in canon is just not possible, even without talking about the character shift.
So I feel REALLY REALLY bad that the version of Wolf that I don't like is the favourite of the VA who seems extremely cool and chill. To be fair it's not the same writers at all and they were having fun with their ideas and creative liberties there, and in all honesty, separated from everything that Wolf represents to me, I'll give that in Starlink he is a pretty good villain in a vacuum for the too short screentime he had.
