Great video. My son and I are doing that loop in mid May. Your encouraging commentary is just what folks need to hear. I'm taking 2 guys from church for their first bikepacking trip in a couple of weeks as well. I'm going to share this video with them. They need to hear that as well. Thanks for sharing this with us.
Love this channel! ThesI’m a KY cyclist too. I’ve been a roadie since I started riding. Saving for a surly bike packing rig. Want to do this in the fall.
Looks like a great trip! I need to check out Brevard this summer for sure! Nathan I'll be in Lexington KY the weekend of May 14th with my girlfriend Christina and would love to do a short ride if you are in town. Blaise
This video was just recommended and I really enjoyed it! I'm also an older, mediocre rider who's hoping to do my first bikepacking trip sometime this year...once I get a new bike setup... 🙂Thanks for sharing!
Great video! I’m looking to do this ride as a first bikepacking experience. I hope this question isn’t too naive, but what did you do with your food and garbage when at camp? Did you hang a bear bag?
Lovely video - very inspirational! I've been mountain biking several times in that area - including riding the road from town to Avery (and dropping into trails behind the stables) so it was fun seeing familiar sites. Now I need to go bikepack/gravel grind there.
All in all, I’ve adjusted pretty quickly, but I’ve already changed out the handlebars, as I was a little too upright, but I am really liking the bike so far, with the new Surly Moloko Bars.
Wow that was an epic overnight. I can so relate to just getting out there a bit unsure what my body’s capable of. I hope to be able to get in on one of these rides. Great ride, man!!!
Sweet video, thanks! Humble pie is a part of most bike tours. :-)
Awesome adventure Nathan. One heck of a riding considering your recent shoulder surgery. Impressive.
Another god one Nathan. Glad to see you back on two wheels and congratulations on the new bike and gear.
Thanks, Alan!
Hey this was awesome! I just moved to the area and can't wait to try this trail.

We actually plan on riding the New River Trail that weekend.
@@KentuckyCycling That’s right I forgot
Great video Nathan! I've experienced several of those climbs, and you make it seem just like being there.
That's high praise, Morgan. Thanks for the kudos!

An "older, mediocre rider"? I resemble that remark. LOL

@@liorwiner1753 We were there in early April so bears were still hibernating, but hanging a bear bag is best practice.

Glad you liked it!
How do you like your new attitude of your bike being more upright?

Great, looking forward to more of your rides....

Was the back country camping free or was a permit required?
