The seventh part of detailed analysis of the main masterpiece of Stanley Kubrick. This time, the focus is on the attitude of the dream characters to alcohol and drugs. It is no accident that 'Ex- beauty queen in hotel drugs overdose'.

Your analyse is as always outstanding especially because it's attention to detail. One thing I would like to add regarding the simbolic(subtle) meaning of the alcohol and smoking from the perspective of my personal experience and according to "New German Medicine" as well as the "Recall Healing" is following :
Alcohol is composed of fire (masculine) and water (feminine). This means that the person who drinks has issues with the parents.
The most plausible hypothesis is that of a father - mother reconciliation that might be in the subconscious of the person (the quantity and the strength of the drink is in my opinion in rapport direct with the context). Also vice-versa is perfectly reasonable, if the person is happy and /or wants /needs to propose a toast in various context and circumstances.

About smoking the subtle meaning is that the person in cause needs love and affection. Hire is the catch :the pulmons are simbolic represented by the soul so every time one takes smock inside there is a urge of worming within inside and with every expiration the person is letting out the negative emotions.
