      Hello Renata :) great to hear that. Before i decided to buy my duster - i was looking around for : jeep cherokee, suzuki vitara, suzuki jimny, nissan xtrail and so on - and after i checked the prices i knew ok - i cant buy them (too expensive for me). Then while i was looking "lada niva" videos - i came across about a few dacia duster videos - and this was also the year of announcement of the dacia duster 2. And when i saw it first time - i fall in love. Then the price was released and i knew - ok this will be my car. Had also a look in the internet about dacias and problems - and i must say, i didnt got the feel - that dacias are "lemon builds" like other brands have. And for the price - unbeatable ! :) Currently i have 43000km.

      My Duster is 12 years old now and just failed inspection because the rear subframe has extensive rust damage. Found a used one in fair condition for 180€, so not a big deal. A weekend and a case of beer with modest amount of swearing should do the trick. In comparison my former vehicle, a Volkswagen rusted through both front fenders in 9 years.
      All in all I'm really impressed, that a cheap car has withstood this god forsaken half salt flat, half swamp called Finland for this long.

      Hey Phil :) thank you very much for your response. Jep for a "review" after 2 years the duster is pretty ok for the winter seasons in europe (they spread salt on snowy streets like hell ). And you´re right, other luxury brands gets more rust after few years - and that´s one benefit for the cheaper duster in the point of "bottom protection" :)

    Nice to see how it looks after two years. I Just bought Duster and will get it in the end of this week. Here in the notŕth they use quite a lot of salt on the roads, so rust problems will show up after one ot two years, I suppose. Took two layer extra protection to mine, lets see how it works. I suppose drive saft and bearing housing are not treated, so maybe i need to do it, looks better if they are not rusty :-). Thankls for taking time and showing these to us.

    • @SasaBuilds

      Hello Jarmo :) - it´s great to hear and see that other dacia drivers also takes the Rust seriously and try to protect their dacias as best as possible - so i dont feel so alone with that threat hehe :). Well Winter and Salt is a bad combination, but beside that when the season starts off - and you go for some offroading - the dirt and mud will also do its job, if its not well done. But to be honest, inspecting regularly my car for rust - makes me feel better. I owned a lot of rusting cars, and if you start to weld, or repair rust holes it gets you annoying like - repair one spot, and a year later you have to repair another one - and we all love cars, that have no problems while we own them - and safes us money too ! :) Thank you for your reply Jarmo :) !

    Thank you! Very informative video. I was thinking of purchasing the Duster (and still might 2020 or 2021 model). It's really helpful to see the weak spots, the rubber coating and that stupidly placed valve for the exhaust. Wow, what were they thinking? Putting that valve there so exposed!
    Honestly, you should have more views for this. Great and helpful content.

    • @SasaBuilds
      @SasaBuilds  4 года назад

      Hello Paul :) Thank you for your comment, and sorry for late response. Well the exhaust is one of the spots - but not critical, the drive shafts from the rear can be protected with rust protection paint. And the Valve is a Problem if going offroad, you have to think about it - dont know the price - but there are already "protection shields" available for the duster 2 - or you can create on for yourself - have this on my "ToDo" to create a plate, because the "buy options" are not that cheap. Going to make a video about the "after few weeks and kilometers of driving - how the "heat paint" looks like on the exhaust. As i got in touch with such temperature paint years before - im afraid of, it wont last long xD - but thats a little disappointment then. Just want to show if it helps. Else the Dacia Duster has a well coated protection from underneath - so it will last long hopefully :). Best regards Sascha

      Yes :). The Duster is a reliable car. Also the start price is pretty without competition. Mostly frustration comes from that, that buyers think they should compete with landcruisers, defenders. The duster has his pro´s and con´s compared to offroad, but i had also my moments where i thought - damn, never thought he would make it. Also my dad was pretty impressed (before i bought the car he was like: ok , a romanian car - what can you expect from them), but them after a harsh winter - he was amazed :).

    Need to correct you hammrite paint is not German it was made by Allen Foster in Northumberland UK 1962
    later manufactured at the Finnigan's factory in Prudhoe, Northumberland. The company also produced the anti-corrosion treatment Waxoyl. In the early 1980s, the company was acquired by Hunting plc who later sold it on to Williams Holdings in 1993.

    I have the 2WD model, 1.6 gasoline, from 2016, and about 250 000 km; i got it used, at 230k km; i did find rust here and there, mostly from people scratching the underside with the car lifts. Also, one weak spot with that model is behind the front wheel - the liner soaks water, and it rusts the wheel arch. I've managed to clean it, and we'll see how it holds on, I hope to drive the car 1 million km. For the exhaust, I painted it with brake caliper paint, and it doesn't hold that well. The catalitic converter is getting too hot for that paint. On the muffler it survived just fine.

    Thanks for an informative video. I am looking at Duster 2 with a 1.2 125 hp petrol engine. I have heard there are issues with the earlier 1.2 tce engines. Do you know if the later engines after 2016 are reliable or is the 1.6sc the one to go for.

    • @alin8891able
      @alin8891able 3 года назад +1

      I’ve driven the 1.6 petrol before and i cant say i would recommend it. Its slow, can be a bit thirsty, a bit loud and i think you can only get the 1.6 in 5 speed gearbox. That 1.6 engine is a bit old and lacks torque. Either go for 1.2 petrol or 1.5dci. If you do long miles the 1.5dci is best.

    • @SasaBuilds
      @SasaBuilds  3 года назад +1

      @Peter g. as i can remember - before i bought my dacia duster 2 - i got some research in the internet. and what i´ve have learned - that the 1.2 engine with 125 hp, had issues with the timechain (they have chains instead of timing belt). But this was not a problem only found at renault engine, also audi, vw, and other brands had engines with timing chains for the engine - where the hydraulic chain tightener failed, or the chain got streched with time.. there are plenty videos out there - which shows a "rattle noise" when engine is cold and just a few seconds after startup. End of the story where broken engines (Chain overjumped the camshaft, and valve hit the piston). That was the only reason why i decided to go for the 1.5 dci engine. And the "90hp" version was to weak for me (power). And as Alin T mentioned - if you drive longer routes / ways - the diesel engine would be the best choice,.. if you drive more short drives (routes) - go for the petrol, because the diesel engine could also have problems - if its just driven "short drives" :)

    interesting...and assuring....new Dusters (not the earlier ones sold in UK and made in India) do not rust...at least not really quickly. I also own exactly the same version, only from October 2018 (last specimens before the AdBlue was introduced)....with 67 kkm behind the back (mostly asphalt but also forest roads). All in all, rust is where it does not matter (places that you took an effort to scrub and paint), meaning it only is superficial rust that does not cause anything else than aesthetic nag. Exhaust, I agree, is terrible by the outside look but it is difficult to judge when it will need change. Funny how this parts are sometimes mounted in a factory: my 23 years old Megane 1.4 eco needed 3-5 exchanges of exhaust system parts after finally I decided to go "full rostfrei". My Twingo 8 valve 1.2 from 2003 (340 kkm) on the other hand, still has the original "from the factory" exhaust that looks better than the one on my (new) 2 year old Duster. But, to be clear, I think Duster is well made and I am happy to work a bit around a car that is so capable, low consumer and a joy to drive given the amount of money one has to set aside......well done inspection 👍👌

    • @SasaBuilds
      @SasaBuilds  4 года назад +2

      Hello Boris :) , im with you - it´s just a "little cry". The main reason for the duster is the reliability , and the price. We dont have a benefit from a "non rusting" exhaust, if the car is permanently in the service/garage for repair, or fault diagnosis :). It´s just an optical thing - that an exhaust has to be changed after some time is normal :). Or if a cheap option for stainless steel is available its also possible. But in total - the rust protection from factory is great, better than other brands i´ve seen that arent "that cheap" :). Have to make a "Video" about the - Temperature Paint from "Förch" - currently the car lift of my brothers garage is used :( . Best Regards Boris

      Sorry Keith, i have to "disagree" with you in that point. if we talk about "soft roader" - suvs, .. we can talk about "vw tiguan, mazda cx-7, mazda cx-5, audi Q series, "4 Motion Vws", Opel/Vauxhall newer Generation Suv´s" and other brands as "soft suv´s" - the "big and main difference" between the Dacia Duster 4wd (1gen, 2gen) and them , .. and thats why i decided to buy the duster was -> the "4wd Lock Mode" - where i can lock 4wd (till 80km/h then it will move to Auto Mode). Other neat SUV´s mentioned above cant even take control of the 4wd, or "electronical awd mode changing". And the Duster has the Nissan 4WD Drivetrain, and as we know - Nissan dont produce just "neat suv´s" for the city. Search for "4 Motion AWD test - even Bmw XDrive is more accurate". And a Dacia Duster should NOT be Compared with "Hardcore Offroad Beasts like Wrangler Rubicon, Suzuki Jimny, LADA NIVA, or Landcruisers and Pajeros" - in that Price Tag and Usage of a Dacia Duster - you wont find much "SUV´s" as you call them with a "4wd Lock" Mode :). The Dacia Duster has his own Path :) in the Line between Hardcore Offroad - and "Just City SUV´s".

      Thats True :) , just want to show what it looks like. It´s not that important - in conclusion what you get for that price of a duster. I know many in the forums got shocked, when they spotted the exhaust. For me the duster has to be reliable, and 4wd. all other things can be changed and adapted as you mentioned correctly :). Its my first brand new car i bought, and my best decision :). Never let me down, not even in the harshest conditions. best Regards Sascha :)
