  • The Pictus Catfish is a diminutive species of catfish that is identified primarily by its spotty appearance. Their vibrant and distinctive coloring makes them appealing to have in your tank and are easy to admire and observe.
    Found in the wild in the freshwaters of the Orinoco and Amazon rivers in South America, these tropical catfish are and extremely active and energetic predatory fish. Being a predatory fish, your choice of tank mates is an important consideration as they are not picky eaters. Any smaller fish species, if not considered carefully, are likely to become your next catfish meal. They can also be referred to as the Pictus or Angel Cat by suppliers to the fish-keeping community.
    In this video, we'll take a look at what makes the Pictus Catfish so popular for fish enthusiasts, and how to care for them for optimum health. We talk about their behavior as well as their lifespan. We also talk about their appearance, as well as the basic tank requirements you'll need to meet before adding them to your aquarium.

      Give him at least a couple buddies, I had just one, he was super shy... then I learned about their social nature and I went back to the shop to get the other two Pictus he was raised with, and now all three of them soar around my tank like a badass fin gang. Made a real difference in his quality of life I'm sure.

    What is a ideal tank size

    I test regularly. My 6 catfish have been in the tank for 1 1/2 weeks. They don't hide EVER. They seem like they're waiting for food.They do swim on the bottom & periodically swim up the glass even when I am not in front of the tank. They're supposed to be bottom dwellers and hide out in the day; I thought. I don't mind seeing them all of the time. I'm wondering if anyone has this experience with their catfish? thx
    Update: they have settled in and are thriving nicely.

    Can they go well with one Oscar in 125 gallon?

    • @OregonOutdoorsChris
      @OregonOutdoorsChris 2 года назад +1

      Pictus are probably just a hair too small to be a good idea. Though they have a couple of very close cousins that are the right size to go with oscars.
      Look for Pimelodus blochii, also known as the four-line pimelodus, or the Pimelodus orantus, the ornate pimelodus. Those are both just enough bigger that they stand a much better chance of cohabitating with an oscar long term.

      You know Oscars can grow to be about 18" right? It's going to eventually grow big enough to eat anything that's not also huge.
