The story of Cain and Abel is an interesting one because, rather than stopping Cain from murdering his brother, God decided to test Cain and punish him for doing what he knew Cain would do, starting a large cycle of horrible murder sin. He let Abel, one of his purest creations, die without him doing anything to deserve it. He gave Satan a win on the free will thing while scorning free will at the same time. Then God let people continue murdering over the millennia and made it so no one could have vengeance against Cain, and I think it's a story that really makes God seem to be sadistic and villainous, or at least incompetent. That creates the moral discussions people can have about The Bible and whether Christianity is for them, and I think it's a really fun thing to break down the philosophical reasoning of why to have or to not have faith in God. That gives people something to have conversations about, and being social is an important part of human development, whether someone's beliefs head one way or the other. The flaws of The Bible are what make it the most engaging, polarizing, inspiring, and defeating story in existence, and there's a beauty in those flaws and what people can overcome if they take lessons from them.
Love your message at the end. God has a plan for all of us. Trust the process 🙏🏼🔥 The next Song should be Lost off of there white album. Syn has a killer solo!!
God gave us free will. Have faith, live a moral life and the rewards will present themselves. There is more than monetary value in a soul.... God bless!
According to Genesis, God gave humans free will as part of their creation, then staged Satan triggering it through the offer of the forbidden fruit. God was responsible for the first sin and knew Satan would tempt Eve and she would fail, and that's really a theme of The Bible. God's design, if everyone needs a common ground to talk about it, is that he has everyone's failures planned out and already knows they'll happen because he'd engineered them. His plan is typically setting humans up for failure and then making sure that failure happens. Being omniscient, he'll always know exactly what will happen, but it doesn't seem that he alters that destiny he has set in motion. Yet he punishes those who fulfill their destiny. Obviously believers won't push their human ideals onto a being that isn't human, but were God the human he modeled all humans after, his will has no real purpose for humans. There doesn't seem to be a method to most of it. Just a path of events. Then humans interpret it. But it seems the destiny of humanity is to die. Society just builds up to one day be destroyed, and we've been able to destroy all human life with nuclear technology. All of these plans seem cruel to anyone who doesn't have a promise of Heaven, and if that's also God's design, it's not a great thing to make people think in fear for most of their lives. That's why people make their choice of another faith or choose to not be religious.
This song is a mix of rage and sadness. It really captures the story they're trying to tell about Cain and Abel. A story about rage, anger, and sadness.
@@xjvsnn Matt said in some behind-the-scenes stuff that he was the only one doing vocals on this album and that he was glad Syn and Zacky would do backing vocals on the next album (City of Evil) because they both are great singers.

Bro, thank you. Your service gave me the ability to live how I was raised. So far. My father enlisted when he was 18, not drafterd, because he wouldn't been, he was the younest of three. He spent one and a half years in Veitnam. He was 18 when he was deployed. Yes, he was Navy. He spent six months on land, and one year at sea. The stories he was willing to tell me about Vietnam was all of his land excursions, but I could see in is eyes, even what he told, there was way worse. He did not go into the jugle, he resuppled the troops. So certain duties of his tour resupplying, gives me immense respect for those who were in the jungle. Every Veteran has my most highest respect. Truthfully their band name isnt anything THAT deep, M. Shadows has always said that when they were thinking of names, they just tried to find something in the Bible that sounded cool haha.
@@kylec8950 same! I mean if you think about it, theres TONS of cool shit in the Bible PERFECT for metal band names just in that same story. Chapter 4, Mark of Cain,

On the album its all Shadows, but I believe when they played it live The Rev sang the non screaming parts originally but when I saw them in 2016 and 2018 Gates sang those parts.
When they were kids in high school they were all supposed to go home and write down band name ideas. No one did it except Matt. All he did was go through the Bible and pull out cool little phrases that could be cool band names. They voted on a name and “Avenged Sevenfold” won, with “Lips of Deceit” being second.
Great reaction bro. I’m not sure if you caught it but the “where has he gone what have you done?” part and the “far away from this land I must go” part we’re all from Chapter 4 verses 8-16. It’s amazing that they were able to take this part of a story and turn it into a song like this.
Shadows does both parts. But if I remember right when they did this song live Zacky and Johnny and Rev would help do the singing while M Shadows would take care of screaming
Studio version is all Matt with voice overlaying. Of course, when they perform it live, he gets help from the rest of the band in the beginning verses. Back in the day, the Rev did most of the backup vocals. Today, JC, Zacky and Gates all do the backups in concert. Not sure, but I bet Brooks, Portnoy and Arin have all stayed away from backup vocals out respect to the Rev, because that was his thing, part of his art live in concert.
You gotta go with I Won’t See You Tonight, Pt. 1 next. The song is pure singing (no screamo) and it’s absolutely beautiful with the piano involved. Spoiler: the last 2 minutes of it will send shivers down your spine and give you goosebumps (well it did for me)
The screaming and singing recorded is all Shadows. They used to be a pretty big deal in the metalcore scene with this and their Sounding the Seventh Trumpet albums because this sound in particular. They still perform a song or two from their early years but, Matt no longer screams unfortunately.
They've said they were raised Roman Catholic, but M. Shadows said in interviews around the self-titled era that using Christian imagery was just symbolic and he's an agnostic atheist who feels people read too much into Biblical lyrics.
I’ve seen Avenged in 4 states over 15 years. Been a fan since Hunting Beach. Second Heartbeat, in full is a masterpiece. Love you content, theology, and philosophy!!!
Until the self-titled album Shadows would lay ALL of the vocal tracks (lead and ALL of the backing vocals) and then live the other guys would have to match his voice, which they always had trouble doing because their voices are completely different. Thats why in that album they decided they would all contribute to the backing vocals so that the record and the live versions of the songs would sound the same and they wouldnt have to try and match his vocals.
This is one of my all time favorite songs!!!! Hey man GOD BLESS glad i found this channel! I dont follow a religion but i do Follow God....best as i can

But actually, he didn't have any vocals on the albums until Strength of the World from City of Evil. He was strictly live backing vocals up until that point, then had a ton more vocals on the self-titled.
Yeah the other members didn't really start singing on albums till the self-titled. It was predominantly Matt singing and/or screaming, apart Strength of the World
Matt does both sets of vocals in this particular song they are just overdubbed othersongs however you can hear the rev sing. as well as both zack and brian do backing vocals
I am pretty sure it is M Shadows doing both vocals. The first 2 Avenged Sevenfold albums are not easy listening. This is a softer song on this album. They were a full on metalcore band but changed their sound on their 3rd album City of Evil. M Shadows would mostly do screaming vocals but had to learn to sing better when they went to a softer and more commercial sound.
The clean vocals and harsh vocals are telling the same story from different points of view. Both are Matt in the studio, live it was usually Matt and Jimmy, more recently Johnny.

@D-GiBBy I love your reactions...not I'm not going to hate, so put the eraser away...I lost fate in God 10/02/06 when my 3 month old daughter was taken from my wife and I, due to SIDS.. now there is a song that I listen to regularly that makes me at peace with her death...it's by a band called The Offsprings and the song is called Gone Away...when I listen to this song so do my neighbors...stay Peace my guy!!!!
That is such a powerful song... I’m so sad to hear of your daughter‘a passing. “Gone away” is just a perfect track - there are few songs that articulate the pain of loss like that song/chorus 👊😔
