I spent the later half of 2022 in and out of hospital fighting leukemia and i listened the orginal of this song so many times. I am better now but Lazarus just cuts me to the bone. I broke down listening to your cover. Thanx
@BOWIEof HORSES You don't answer for what Bowie would've thought! You're in no right to do that! Also, I don't either, I only wish he would've been able to hear this!
My grief shall not overwhelm me and good thing Bowie is still with us and if my voice doesn’t get through somebody please give this clown all my love and gratitude, my love and before I forget my love.
Yes,I still remember seeing the Late Night Bulletin about Bowie's death. Then my friend texted me about it.Sadly 2016 took a lot of Great ones.Glenn Frey,Tom Petty,Leon Russell, and others.
It's a year later of you comment, 7 years of Bowie's departure, and I'm still sad and perplex that he's gone. And I think Puddles made an awesome job in honoring him
I’m in a whole different universe after listening to this, who does this clown think he is… love you Puddles, you make me laugh and you make me cry sometimes. Forever yours. ❤
No other artist puts chills up my spine whenever a new song is released and this is no exception. Still reeling from how powerful this rendition is. Also, loved the red phone bit at 0:59!
Omg!! I hadn't even watched yet but I already knew I'd love this! It took me a long time before I could ever listen to this song. I love Bowie and this song still makes me cry and today is still a sad day. You remembered. I LOVE YOU, YOUR VOICE IS HEAVEN
The production quality of your videos is just getting better and better. This song has haunted me ever since David left us. It's probably the first time I've listened to it since it was released. Great version, and stirs a lot of emotions in me.
I was remodeling our kitchen when it came across the radio. I had to sit down and work through this one. A huge part of my audiophile life was listening to and deconstructing David Bowie. The stars looked very different that day.
I love this song so much, calling it a song feels derogatory. It’s a deep feeling and saying goodbye, god I love Bowie, I hope Iman, their daughter and Bowies son find peace in his voice, music and memory. Puddles you legend, you really brought this forward with justice and that compassion. All the best for the new year.
Thank you. 💕 For those who might be unaware (or did not read P's caption), "Lazarus" was David Bowie's final single, a song he wrote about his own impending demise. The music icon passed away on January 10, 2016 at the age of 69. Lazarus or Saint Lazarus is a biblical figure from The Gospel of John. Jesus called him to life from his tomb (11:43). When Lazarus appeared with his feet and hands tied and a cloth over his face, Jesus said to his relatives in mourning, "Unbind him and let him go free." (11:44) There are many interpretations of this passage, from historical account to tales of symbolic meaning. No doubt, Bowie was hoping for freedom from his illness and suffering, as we all now hope for our freedom from COVID and other troubling and threatening matters. "Lazarus" is the perfect song for today and Puddles' version is a beautiful cover. A lover of clowns, I'm sure David Bowie would be proud of and deeply moved by this tribute. 🌌 💔🕊
And is sacred and shouldn’t ever be a fking cover tune. Love puddles. Sounded great but a hard no. Any song but this. Watching Bowie literally on his deathbed leaving this world with such beauty.. well bad taste to change that memory we all have to someone in grease paint covering. Leave bad taste and clown makeup to juggalos
@@djfreake Although I understand your POV, I have to disagree. Bowie, a master of showmanship, transformed himself on stage and screen into many characters, including his final Ziggy-fied Lazarus, coming forth from and vanishing into an armoire, reposing with cloth over his eyes, bound to his bed by blankets inhibiting his short-lived escape lasting only long enough to scribble some final words which he had more of than paper. There are those who might call Bowie's portrayal of Lazarus irreverent and disrespectful. But I don't think it is at all. I feel the same about Puddles' tribute cover of the song. Like Bowie, the man beneath the makeup and wardrobe is an actor, musician, singer and performance artist. He's honoring and commemorating one of his heroes in his unique way, in character as Puddles (a being whose sentimental and caring qualities are part of the man), gazing upward into the light, following the lyrical instruction, "Look up here. I'm in Heaven." Not only is Puddles performing for his viewers, he is expressing his admiration in a serenade to Bowie himself. I see nothing irreverent nor disrespectful about that. On the contrary, I find it quite moving - and right up Bowie's alley. "All the world's a stage, And all the men and women merely players; They have their exits and their entrances; And one man in his time plays many parts..." - William Shakespeare
Puddles my friend, you have rendered the Single Most haunting rendition of ANY David Bowie song ever. Anyone who attempts this song is flirting with sacrilege, heresy, Bowie is a veritable legend in the realm of music, theater, and 21st century pop culture...one of the Original Iconoclasts, and this; his most intimate record of all! David wrote, performed, and released this song knowing that he would be gone long before the calendar turned its page again. This song represents the raw, final thoughts, of one of modern Humanitys Rarest, most beautiful of Souls. He shared his life, and his art with us mere mortals...He completed this-his swansong and went supernova, his stardust soul yet rains over the Milky Way... Puddles, you pulled it off respectfully, and your Love for him bleeds through this performance. It struck me the moment I first listened, enrapt, haunted by his memory...thank you for this my friend...Let us pray the Starman found his ✌️....
Well, Sir, I was about to say, ...."Too soon, ...way, way too soon." But, you did this respectfully, and gracefully. And you acknowledged him. It was beautiful. Best.
I was skeptical, I admit it. Puddles was absolutely true to this song in meaning, emotion and inflection. I am wowed. Thank you for that wonderful effort.
@PuddlesPityParty -Thank you Mike for having the Tall White Clown cover this one by the Thin White Duke.

I was listening to this song when I learned that Bowie passed so this song always gets me. What a great cover. Really made it your own and it's beautiful.
Puddles, I just want you to know that though I haven't yet been able to join your livestreams, I still find what you do for us to be beautiful and a joy to experience. Thank you.
Absolutely stunning version. Bowie’s swan song handled with such sensitivity and imagination. Puddles your voice and interpretation are beautiful and I love the video. Dark and mysterious but still with the humour of the clown. You are a real genius my friend
This is going to sound weird. I haven't been able to bring myself to watch or listen to Dark Star, not yet. So this is the first time I've heard Lazarus. I haven't heard the original. I was in tears watching this, Puddles. It's beautiful. Thank you.
I've been listening to you for a decade or so now, and you keep getting better. I saw you in NC at the Cradle and you blew me away. You have evolved here beyond just entertainer and vocalist, but pure artist and one of the best voices humanity has seen. Thank you for you. You are amazing and I cherish you.
How does such a solidly well built seven foot clown manage to look so vulnerable? This is so beautifully weird and surrealistic, and captures the feeling of our time so well. We're all just hanging on by a thread. Sail on Clown King, keep going, we're sailing right behind.
When an artist gets an idea to cover a great like Bowie, not sure how many would be brave enough AND have the chops to go at his most personal stuff. There are precious few artists with both qualities. I am glad this channel is one.
Mr. Puddles, I don't think I've seen a face as emotive as yours since Lon Chaney. Astonishingly, your voice is moreover as expressive on an order of magnitude. I am awestruck by your ability to express on so many levels.
I watched this yesterday when it first posted, and I was just stunned! Now tonight, 24 hours later, I've been thinking about it ALL day. It's like my chest is ripped open and my heart is reaching for the Starman. Really, I'm not trying to sound poetic, cuz I'm not. I'm just so blown away and this is just how it feels. Dang, Puddles, you just rock.
OMG!! Just when I think you have reached the highest echelons possible this appears. Bowie was a genuis never to be repeated but your voice Puddles is beyond all boundries!
I thought for a long time about why this one is so exceptional and I think it might be the mixture of humor, deep sadness, a bit of fury, pain, and wonder all combined results in such pathos. You really made art in this one.
Thank you for the freedom of your creative expression. In a world that could use much more you are a refreshing escape. I always enjoy what you bring to the party. It helps me want to stay.
The original song was haunting but good God this version wrenching. It's so deep. It's beautiful. Everyone has already talked about the song, its symbolism, and meaning. I won't go into that, but I will on its own way there is a beauty to sadness. It's an emotion we don't like to experience but it is apart of us none the less.
well shit y'all i'm in tears. i was a sixth grader when Bowie passed, and now im a senior in high school. i remember hearing of it on the radio on my way to school and immediately calling my dad, who raised me on Bowie and hoped i might see him live one day. to this day my father cannot and will not listen to Blackstar.
Absolutely amazing again as usual. As much I would have loved to see you sing this when I saw you live. You would have seen and heard an old woman ugly cry! I love Bowie and I love you too! 😘
The harmonica is haunting
I spent the later half of 2022 in and out of hospital fighting leukemia and i listened the orginal of this song so many times. I am better now but Lazarus just cuts me to the bone.
I broke down listening to your cover. Thanx
Bowie would LOVE everything about this .
Absolutely fantastic! Utter brilliance! Wish Bowie would be around to hear this! Can't believe it's been 6 years already!
Perhaps Bowie can hear it or sense it in some form. Thoughts, words, wishes, prayers, and desires vibrate with energy and transmit.
Awe... remembrance
@BOWIEof HORSES You don't answer for what Bowie would've thought! You're in no right to do that! Also, I don't either, I only wish he would've been able to hear this!

👏
Six years today since Bowie passed... but boy-o-boy, what a tribute! 😢
A legend sings the songs of another legend. Both totally individual, both totally original.
Only one Bowie and only one Puddles.
Love you both.
Edit: Whoops, wrong video. :)
Great take on a great song. Thanks Mike. Keep it up.
Well said.
Never expected this, but it’s fantastic. One of the best Bowie covers I’ve ever heard!
agreed! And I was very doubtful at first
It sounds like Bowie to me. He didn't really vary it too much.
Up there with Gabriel's cover of 'Heroes'
I definitely agree!
Made me cry. I don't want a world without him in it.
Every Bowie song you've covered is perfection. I can't believe it's been 6 years already 😓
Yes,I still remember seeing the Late Night Bulletin about Bowie's death. Then my friend texted me about it.Sadly 2016 took a lot of Great ones.Glenn Frey,Tom Petty,Leon Russell, and others.
Petty passed in October 2017.

Damn puddles ... what a tribute. That was beautiful.
Beautiful song that is sung with a beautiful voice
Nothing but respect for those who so seemingly effortlessly get away with touching Bowie.
HELL YEAH!
David Bowie 8/1 1947 - 10/1 2016.
This was a worthy honouring of a missed Master!
No other artist puts chills up my spine whenever a new song is released and this is no exception. Still reeling from how powerful this rendition is. Also, loved the red phone bit at 0:59!
Exactly, there's actually depth and character in the video.
Yet again, another great performance and production by Puddles
This might possibly be my most favorite David Bowie tune.
Thank you for handling it with such care.
An amazing performance on one of the saddest days of the year. Thank you Puddles.
Omg!! I hadn't even watched yet but I already knew I'd love this! It took me a long time before I could ever listen to this song. I love Bowie and this song still makes me cry and today is still a sad day. You remembered. I LOVE YOU, YOUR VOICE IS HEAVEN
I knew something was wrong the first time i saw David's video. I can't listen to this or the plan
Same. Took me forever to not only get thru this song, but the entire album. Damn, how I cried.
The production quality of your videos is just getting better and better. This song has haunted me ever since David left us. It's probably the first time I've listened to it since it was released. Great version, and stirs a lot of emotions in me.

I was so excited to see this pop up in my notifications. The only thing better than a good song is a Puddles remake of a good song.

I bought the LP. It is to sad to listen . The music is unbelievable.
Take the time you need. Sometimes "things" are too deep. And if you have the opportunity to defer them, do it. Life is hard enough. ❤️
The voice so pure, the melody inevitable, the lyrics knowing, foreknowledge, hindsight. The story lives forever... Thank Puddles, you did David proud~
