The stock mounts are liquid filled, when the mounts tear up bad they leak and trip a code/cel for a bad motor mount, BFI makes plug in resistors that trick the ecu into thinking the stock mounts are there and healthy .. I as well have the same BFI street mounts I’m waiting to install here soon, The pass side mount is the usual culprit and takes the most abuse.. as well as being fairly easy to replace - leaving the sub bolted up .. as for the driver side - yeah pita, I’ve read you can loosen the oil cooler and do it as well .. I can’t wait for the follow up video as my b8.5 is my part time daily ! I’ll be doing the mounts “again already destroyed a passenger side stocker in 3k miles” / HX . 3.2 lower pulley , WMi and custom tune here shortly ! Beers and salut :)
Sadly I didn't realize that BFI sold plug in resistors or I would have grabbed those too. We will be making resistors ourselves tonight to get ride of the engine mount codes we now have.
@@brizax I use an OTS tune from IE. I don't have the option of coding them out with the tune. Resistors will work just fine for us. Thanks for the info.
I had to have the rear upper and lower mounts on my 2008 rabbit replaced, they are pucks that need to be pressed out/in of the subframe. This was one of those jobs where you look up the how to on youtube, see that it needs a $300 special tool to do it without having to take the subframe out or lie under the car swearing for a few hours and killing your back. I happily paid PG Performance $200 to install them for me.
I’ll add my experience with the Stage 2 mounts. They NVH was awful. Compared to even the shot OEM ones, the BFI had a shake at idle that would rattle my door cards. Only time it was bearable was driving. The car did feel super tight tho, it was a big improvement in slop, but the daily aspect was gone with them. I ended up taking mine back out and putting in 034 street density mounts.
@@VancityAudi I look forward to it, hopefully the stage 1 is bit more forgiving! If mine was a dedicated track or even drag car then I would’ve for sure stuck with the BFI. The quality of the mounts were awesome and the performance factor too, just not the daily driving side of it.
@@crxgator BFI had a deal on their stage 2 mounts which were cheaper than their stage 1 at the time hence why I bought them. I know they would be more rough but not that bad. First time with a billet mount so my lesson was learned.
To compare them to the 034 a proper comparison would be their track mounts to the Stage 2 though. That’s what I’m getting at. Unless there was an error on the site, the Stage 2 would always be more expensive than the Stage 1
Adam, so what was the actual install time, from removal of shoot oem mounts? You have the dyi videos I've seen period!! Keep these AWESOME videos coming 😊
Hey. Love the content, and the timing couldn't be much better, as my car is in the shop and they noticed leaky OEM mounts. Is there a reason you went with BFI rather than 034 or ECS or other options?
When I think performance, I don't think ECS. They are more of just a cosmetic and maintenance company in my opinion. I will never use any 034 parts on my car due to their lacking of morals in their business practices. I used BFI mounts on my RS3 and they worked extremely well.

Tech tip, disconnecting the sway bar end links allows a lot more room when lowering the subframe, if it’s needed.

Did you have to replace all the subframe bolts as well? I'm assuming they're TTY.
We probably should have, but we used all the original hardware.
