Worked on this latch 5 frustrating hours and searching you tube for different answers to my problem. Nothing worked and my door is very heavy. Your Key word was “extend “the hinge. Quick and to the point . I’m fixed and cleaned up in 2 mins after watching this. thank you very much for the info.

Thanks, Joe. The Kenmore documentation for removing and reinstalling the oven door gives no clue on the latch locations. We worked about 3 hours and watched 5 or more videos. Yours made the most sense. Got it done!

Thanks so much Joe. I took my oven door off and apart to clean the glass. Then I couldn't get that darn thing back on! My hinges were on the oven, not the door but the problem you solved for me was keeping the hinge in the unlocked position. I used two screwdrivers. Perfect! My husband is our to town for a week and I could just imagine him coming into the kitchen and seeing the oven door on the floor. (he warned me not to try this but thanks to you it was a success).

Man this quarter trick is a lifesaver !!! Lasted about 4 hours trying, thinking, like what is going wrong right! Tried the quarter trick and BAM couldn’t believe it. After braking the oven door glass… oh well we all learn. 🤣

I was also ready to throw the door across the room after multiple attempts. Couldn't get the quarters to stay put. Instead used two larger bolts to hold the hinges open. Worked on 1st attempt. Very frustrating but very rewarding when finally installed.

Thank you for the simple video. I was not locking it far enough out, but this showed the right way.

Agree with Colin whole-heartedly. I never could get the locks to work correctly so I had to resort to holding the locks, one at a time, fully open so I could engage one side and then the other. What a pain.

U could at least show to to fully extend the hinges!

The video starts from the hinges in place already...but how do you get the hinges in place without them snapping back constantly?

Thanks so much - is there a way to remove the glass to properly clean between them?

thanks so much, but for everyone else...PAY ATTENTION to the Key phrase at 2 seconds into the video
"Once you have your hinge properly locked, fully extended with the lock in place"
because it took me a painful 3 hours before I realized that the hinges were not locked all the way back.
this worked on my Maytag oven Model # MER5775RAQ ...otherwise known as a "Precision Touch Control 700 Electric Smoothtop"

I kept having the same problem with the latch popping back before I could get it in place. I solved that problem by putting a quarter behind it. Then when it slapped back it didn't go all the way because the quarter held it open. Then I latched it pulled it open took my quarter out put the cover latch on it and closed the door.

Thank you so much!!! The quarter trick worked like a charm! luckily I only tried a few time without them before I thought to myself "there's got to be a trick to this" I would've been insane to keep trying without using the quarters.

Doesn't work if the area to lock won't hardly hold. I finally got the one side that didn't lock by putting it in the locking position and placed a screw driver in behind the lock clip and over the back of the door to help with leverage. Took two of us and finally got it by keeping it from snapping back. Then flipped the lock over like in the video. It appears to be locked now.
All of this trouble because we tried to move the oven to clean and paint our kitchen. Will never buy another Amana or Maytag oven.

Until comparing the angle of the hinge to the door frame did I realize the hinges were not fully extended. First time though .

Sure enough the hinge design was different and the quarters were the solution to keep the hinges from springing back, made the task much easier.

I tried 1 quarter per latch still not able to install the oven door. I then using 2 quarters per latch to lock it in place. It works with 2 quarters on my trial.

Do NOT use your bare hands as the instructor in this video, the hinge can slash back and hurt very badly; always use a screw driver or anything to come into contact with the door hinge. Otherwise, very helpful tutorial.
