Hello. Thank you for making this video. I made it. The instructions where clear. I did make it a bit different, as i was using a different pallet. Ps: it takes longer than you think :)
Nice design, might steal it. Made some a little different myself. Longest part of the process was removing the nails. I admit I cheated and cut along the outside and just had to remove the middle nails from the inside board
Nice job 👍 not complicated, simple. I should be able to do this for next spring. Tired of bending over for long periods of time in the garden. Thanks for your video and sharing 👍
Great video; I am unclear the area of stacking, did you use just used two small woods in the opposite direction and did drill that will help the stacking three boxes or do we need to use glue? Please suggest. Thank you.
Make sure the pallet is HEAT TREATED and NOT treated with METHYL BROMIDE. if the pallet is stamped with a HT, or KD (kiln dried) you’ll be fine. If you can’t find a stamp or it is stamped MB, avoid using it.
Hi Archie, good comment and thanks for highlighting that issue. Almost all pallets are heat treated as required for ispm 15 standards. I see that you are in Canada so I can't say that all Canadian pallets are produced in this way, however in Europe and UK they are all heat treated. Here is a link to a site with info about ispm15 standard which includes a list of countries which "officially" comply with it. associated-pallets.co.uk/what-we-do/guide-ispm15/
@@ourkilkennyhomestead2006 I have used some pallets for home use and we have seen some creep in from other areas so that’s why I mentioned it. When I started a garden last year, someone mentioned about the possibility of the tainted pallets. I haven’t seen many and when you do they seem obvious at a glance, (grey, dark, oily all the stuff you don’t want in your food) but some people might not even be aware that pallets are even treated at all. I’ve been thinking about how to set up some raised beds so now with your video, I don’t have to think anymore! Sadly, a lot of our pallets here seem to be the blockless ones (thick bracer boards like a rotored 2x4 run the length) but that just means a little more imagination. I’ll use the heavy bracers as legs! Thanks for the video!
@@ArchieInRealLife thanks Archie, you'll be happy to hear that I have a vid coming up about building a similar unit from pallets which use bracer boards. 😉
Hi what was the size of the pallet used? Otherwise very clear cut video. Thank you. Any ideas for an easy pallet fence to keep out "things from my yard, 2 & 4 legged kind". Thanks again😊
A good quality weatherproof woodstain. In this country we have a product called "Ronseal Fencelife" I have found it to be very long lasting and protects the wood in damp conditions.
Hello, with pallet wood it's usually warped a little meaning there's gaps between the planks. If you're lucky enough to get a pallet with straight planks then you can leave small gaps or you can drill extra holes to suit your needs.
Sorry to hear, thats dissapointing. The pallets can be tricky, picking the right pallets and finding every nail is not as straight forward as it can seem. Dont give up though, find more pallets and try again. Free timber is the best timber!
Yes we do have both, but a regular hammer is too light, my mechanics hammer works better. Having stripped hundreds of pallets we've learned faster ways to do things.
Used pallets to decorate your walls. I can’t recommend using them when they’re in contact with food sources. They are heavily treated with toxic chemicals.
These dont work for long use the soil just washes out the gaps then they rot and fall apart after a year you have to double up everything you do over lapping oposite ways to ensure the soil stays in and it lasts longer then 10 years

Wish I had the strength to dissemble, but asked my strong son to make 2 for me 😊- thanks for this clear cut (pun intended ha!) video to DIY!
I was looking and guess I wouldn't have enough strength either... injured pointer finger, hard to grab🤕. Great Video and very clean pallet🏆
Nice video !
Nice design, might steal it. Made some a little different myself. Longest part of the process was removing the nails. I admit I cheated and cut along the outside and just had to remove the middle nails from the inside board
I usually use a metal blade and a sawzall and just cut the boards off, popping the nail heads out later.
Cool project. Song is a banger too.
Really nice

How would you protect the wood from water damage? I want to make these but I don’t want to have to make them every year. Thanks.
Hi Tony, woodstain, varnish, weather resistant paint, linseed oil or organic wax. There are a number of options depending on what suits you best.
Great video; I am unclear the area of stacking, did you use just used two small woods in the opposite direction and did drill that will help the stacking three boxes or do we need to use glue? Please suggest. Thank you.
Three box sections are attached with screws and wood on the inside.

Over a year ago now but I think it was a standard size euro pallet.
Nice project! i would like to ask how would you protect the wood on the inside of the planter?
A good quality weatherproof woodstain. In this country we have a product called "Ronseal Fencelife" I have found it to be very long lasting and protects the wood in damp conditions.
@@ourkilkennyhomestead2006 Thank you for your answer, I'm going to see if i can find it here!
Linseed oil on front and back of each board.
Just a question ? Would drainage be fine ? Or just not put them to close ?
Hello, with pallet wood it's usually warped a little meaning there's gaps between the planks. If you're lucky enough to get a pallet with straight planks then you can leave small gaps or you can drill extra holes to suit your needs.
Is it a good idea to add a liner inside before you fill it with compost?
Don't see why not, might be no harm to make a few drainage holes to prevent water build up.
Question as I am a bit useless but still want to try it, do you need the machine to cut the wood as well?
Hello, you can certainly do the job with a hand saw, however a jig saw or circular saw would save hours of time and are cheap to buy.
I’m really struggling to take a pallet apart with a hammer and screwdriver. Any tips?
Hi Kate, a crowbar works well also and a helpful assistant might get the job done for you.
Has the pallet wood you used still in good condition? Do you treat it often?
Still good. If left untreated you should expect 2-4yrs depending on where it's kept.
I had a lot of problems with mine, the wood was very poor quality and broke on the disassembling process.
Sorry to hear, thats dissapointing. The pallets can be tricky, picking the right pallets and finding every nail is not as straight forward as it can seem. Dont give up though, find more pallets and try again. Free timber is the best timber!
Most pallets are made with staples not nails they’re very hard to get out and its very hard to not break the wood
Sorry but thats simply not true in this part of the world. Almost all pallets in the uk and Ireland are made using nails.
I wish all DIY videos were like this one.
What size screws did you use out of interest mate??
It was a year ago now but If memory serves it was 4mm x 40mm for the panels and 6mm x 60mm for the legs.
What size screw did you use? Can they be water seals?
Screw sizes were, 4mm x30mm for panels and 6mm x50mm for the legs.
Is this a stupid question what about water escaping don’t you need holes in the bosom dosent the wood rot after time or will it hold up with watering
It's a bare wooden box, how you finish it is up to you.
Whats the tool you used with the hammer to separate the pallets called?
Thanks for the vid, I'm gonna give this a try!
Large flat screwdriver, a crowbar will also work. Best of luck with your project 👍
Pois já estava achar estranho o chão da primeira montagem 😮
Will not water and soil damage the wood
Hello, a bit of common sense is required here. I show you the build, you finish it with whatever products you choose.
what nail size did you use please
4mm x 30mm screws
10/10
Genial 👍
Very good.and costs nothing.
It's good to see pallets are being upcycled ,,rather than being burnt one day of the year.
Don't you have a regular hammer and a crowbar? It would have been easier to take the pallet apart that away.
Yes we do have both, but a regular hammer is too light, my mechanics hammer works better. Having stripped hundreds of pallets we've learned faster ways to do things.
