Some maintenance tips for others maybe having vibration problems. Don't assume the rotor bearings are ok. I've just changed mine ( along with the slipring ) and the difference is astonishing. I had gotten used to a fair amount of vibration coming down the mast and echoing down the hillside towards my house. After changing the rotor bearings the vibration and noise has completely disappeared. Like car bearings, these can create a fair old racket and a lot of vibration but seem quite smooth once theyre off the vehicle. Free play in bearings is sometimes not easily detected but the symptoms certainly are!. Thanks Kilkenny Homestead for all the help. Terrific video..
@nhikoid very good advice. Glad your turbine is back in action, well done on the successful rebuild. 👏
I was enthusiastic until I reached around 6 minutes in. That looks like no job for a DIYer such as I... 😂
You were right about the hardest part being the positioning of the end caps! What a b%^&* of a job!. I tried your method of using 4x2's with a slight mod. Used two threaded bars & nuts to pull the timbers together. Trick is to tighten up so that the turbine is well jammed in place.. Then used a heavy leather mallet to nudge the caps. Very satisying to hear them plop into place!. Thanks so much for this video!. Pity that ista don’t do a maintenace manual/video. A must have when slip rings go out after a couple of years.
Why the angle?
I did find the parts for the thing below (that's rotating the solar array), but what's part do you have that's from solar array that's connect with the top of the part? Didn't talk anything about it or didn't show it either. So that's why i'm wondering. Also i know you have newer version of this now, but i wan't too keep it "old version". :)
@MrLasox hello, can you be more specific? Do you mean the central bearing or the axle or other?
@@ourkilkennyhomestead2006 Of course, i found this item: ruclips.net/video/Q4TehyA5IW0/видео.html You are showing us the bearing, but how do we attach it from the solar array? Can you show us how you did connect with it or any parts that's looking similar? Or did you just making some holes that's matches with the thing rotate? :) Thanks in advanced!
Love your video thanks very much !
Vevor has no helpful support when there is an issue.
Thanks for your help. That worked a treat! The top bearing of the dual set was fine (6008 c3's ). The bottom one was really badly knackered. One thing...do you have a link or model no. for that uprated slipring ?. Hope xmas has gone well. By the way, my two i1500s have knocked it out ot the park for generation, way outstripping my panels.
Glad it worked out for you. Don't have a link but the part no for the bigger slipring is: Moflon "MW1630"
You don't happen to know the factory slippering part number do you? Or at least the factory ring diameter?
@SJV82 hello and thanks for your question, model no: THR022-03, diameter 22mm, length 43mm.
Any tips on how to choose the right port on my Asus laptop? Tried all 9 ports in the sotwares dropdown and there's no "port & lpt" section in device manger.
@@RaymondNoud get something that you know works and triggers the autoplay, your phone, your camera for example. Plug them into your Asus laptop and go to devices in your settings menu. This should bring up a list of all your devices connected. Whatever device you've connected as the test device. Take note of it's com port of and plug the correct adapter lead for inverter coms into it. It's worth a mention that if you've established coms to your aio through the traditional ether net cables this should have given you com port id's, as shown in the video. Make sure you've got the correct adapters before attempting software upgrades.
Shouldnt have spoken too soon. One of my i1500's went completely nuts in the storm a few days ago. Sounded like a helecopter !. Thought it was going to break up. Took it down today, in between peeling sprouts etc and discovered two problems. The slipring was completely shot. No slipring meant no braking. And the vertical swivel bearing is a bit knackered. After a degree of brutality and moderately bad language I've managed to get the whole machine disassembled without destroying it. Ive got the two big circlips off the vertical spindle but I cannot get it to budge. Did you whack yours out or press it with clamps?
@@nhikoid is it that you can't get it out of the rear generator housing? If so, what I did with mine was to get a long 1/2 Inch extension bar, secure the housing in a vice or between your legs and tap hard with a hammer against the inner neck that protrudes through the bearings gradually working the spindle free from the housing. To remove the dual bearings from the spindle you will need to support the bearings with something solid and tap the spindle out with a hammer or use a hydraulic press to push the spindle clear out of the two bearings.
@ourkilkennyhomestead2006 Thanks for taking the time for that detailed reply, especially on Xmas eve ! ( a virtual Xmas pressie! ). I'll give that a go.
Sometimes these manufacturers offer different voltage setups ignoring that the torque might be completely inadequate using the same generator.
Hi , im wondering about your turbine , i have the 48v i1500 version , ive seen it at over 3000watts, but i find when its lighter winds ie: 10 -15 mph its spinning fast but Producing nothing . Is yours the same as in it needs strong wind to produce? Thank you
@@208d with our model being the 24v, it would have a slightly lower rotation speed at which it begins to generate over 1amp at 24v. With yours being the 48v model, it will have to spin a little faster to exceed 1amp at 48v. For our 24v model in 10- 15mph winds we see between 3 and 10amps fluctuating with gusts.
@@ourkilkennyhomestead2006 Ok thank you , mine needs to hit about 39v ac between phases to start producing anything , im thinking of ordering the i2000 grid tied version as it should produce higher voltage in low winds , but it may be too high in high winds. Ill link you two videos of mine. Thanks for the reply and all your time investigating these turbines

Wondering if Wago connectors would be better than the ceramic connector block?
@randymch possibly however I can see 2 possible issues. 1: connector size may not be sufficient to carry amperage, 2: wago may eventually developed corrosion due to atmospheric moisture content. With all that said they'd be no better or worse than other alternatives excluding soldering.
@@ourkilkennyhomestead2006 Soldering method is easy and foolproof. But, the wires for the slipring are quite heavy gauge so I found it easier to use a small portable gas torch to solder the wires, rather than my electric soldering iron.
@nhikoid the soldering is a matter of having a good soldering iron for the heavy gauge wire to be fair. Glad to hear that the repairs are progressing nicely for you.
@ourkilkennyhomestead2006 It’s back up on the tower. Just waiting for a bit of wind.
Is this firm ware generic? I have 3 x 8kw voltacon units, same the one in the video. Voltacon have said the firmware is specific to each serial number, however they have sent me 72.72 for 2 inveters and 46.82 for another. Surley these need to be all the same as they are paralleled together.
@@haydensnart2423 that's a tough one. The firmware is not generic but specific to each different model. On one hand I've seen other users having difficulty paralleling units with different firmware while on other occasions user's have had problems trying to update units with incorrect firmware. Are your 3 units identical or is one an older model? Also, are all three currently running the same firmware version before attempting an update? You can find out the current firmware version of each unit through the watch power app as shown in the video.
@ourkilkennyhomestead2006 same units all 8kw versions of the one in your video. One was a replacement as I had a faulty unit so I purchased a spare from voltacon but all the same model. The one replaced had an older firmware as menu 12, 13 etc are voltage not %.
@ourkilkennyhomestead2006 The watch power app is horrible, managed to get 2 of the units on this but can not for the life of me get all 3 on there. I have had other people that work in IT etc have a go but no joy. Do you know of any others? I use solar assistant.
@haydensnart2423 it's very basic to be fair. The only way I could connect reliably was by cable. Have you been able to read the current software version of each unit?
@ourkilkennyhomestead2006 yes, by pushing the up button on the control panel you can see U1,2 & 3. I have had these 2 years so I have learnt pretty well. To be honest I am completely off grid and apart from a few firmware issues the inverters work pretty well.
I hope it wasn't British Battleship Grey lol

I'm planning on hooking up my Sterling Battery to Battery charger to my 110Ah leisure battery, but the output is 30Amps from the charger... do you think I should use a shunt resistor to keep the current at 20amps or so instead of the 30Amps? Thanks for the vid!!
@@marcomalley2516 it's completely up to you really. The Victron smart shunt seems to be highly recommended by many diy off grid system enthusiasts.

nice simple pallet recycling idea, i will do it next week for my garden. thanks for sharing.
His pallet must of been made different from mine. It took me about 3 or four hours just removing the first three boards with just a hammer and pry/crowbar Also I have hand tools. No electric tools
*All practical tests of ground-based small wind turbines show: 1) They hardly produce any electricity! 2) They do not last long!* *With solar panels you can generate at least 10 times more green electricity with the same investment & time expenditure!* Reliable and almost maintenance-free for at least 25 years! On the other hand, 9 out of 10 small wind turbines stop working after just a few years due to the extremely gusty winds close to ground.
3 blades will let it spin faster and spool up quicker. I got the I2000 but I gotta put my tower and stuff up cant wait 😁
@@Meglenger went for the 5 blade for better performance in low windspeeds. It does limit max rotation speed but allows for more days of production over the year.
GOOD !
😮 I love this! Can't wait to get mine done like this!!!!
I would like to comment that it’s 20 amps per phase. This means you have AC, and it is sufficient for this wind turbine because special cables have been used. These are not ordinary cables; they are gold-plated cables. The datasheet for the slip rings can be provided at any time.
@@altinelenerjihello, thank you for your comment. Gold plated or not, the slip ring is a common failure point for the majority of owners. As I have shown in my videos, it burned out like a fuse. It's clear that a larger slip ring needs to be equipped in the units to further improve on the best turbines on the market.
4 minutes in.. idea To cut the pipe in half with a piano hing holding the sides together. With rope/chain/springs bringing size to grab force. Maybe??
Ya know… the chicken coop might need some tweaking…. But that steel frame is a great start…. It’s the perfect size.
@@nextplanetband yes that's certainly true.
