Agreed... I have been donating my used running shoes to the local thrift shop. But I rather send them to runners who would continue to run in them. Some pairs are near the end of their life cycle but some are very new but I had fit issues
So much content in this one and I have to comment. 1) I think a NB rep had mentioned about 20% PEBA in the new Fuel Cell for the Rebel/SC Trainer. 2) David Goggins actually does break in but it took 75-80 miles for me to really feel it. 3) I like your idea of a shoe exchange. That and the deals section could be good ways to increase traffic to your site. 4) I've been trying to get more mileage on the Rebel v3 but we've been getting so much rain in SoCal and the outsole is terrible on wet ground, especially when trying to control an enthusiastic Belgian Malinois. 5) Your subs keep climbing steadily. I hope all this work pays off for you. :)
Thank you for the number! 20% makes a lot of sense - it for sure leans toward EVA, but with more miles the PEBA is starting to come through. And I didn't make it to 80 on the goggins hahaha that heel cutout just punished me. Hoping to test the new rebel rubber soon
Glad that I stocked up on V3s ..not surprised they couldn't leave their shoes alone..we use to call that change just for the sake of change and it rarely works out well..
Never been keen on the Rebel… needs/demand basis. Took the v4 out for a fartlek on the track and they’re a very versatile, light weight daily trainer or rotational option for speed/tempo/fartlek sessions. All comes back to the needs of the individual. Loved how stable this shoe is and the flex it has
I'm a huge Rebel v3 fan. I'm not happy with what they did to v4. I think they ruined it. It's not a fun speed day shoe anymore. It's officially a daily trainer. I would love to see you compare this to the 1080 v13. Thanks for the content.
i've put some more miles in it and it's definitely still fun and fast, although not as bouncy out of the box as v3. and 1080 is way heavier and softer - a lot more protective feeling, cushioned and better for relaxed miles, but i would not put any serious fast pace in that. i did a comparison of those two around the six minute mark here ruclips.net/video/MUfrj85sQSY/видео.html
Great review and definitely looking forward to the v4 as v2 was to narrow and minimal for me. And amazing idea regarding your shoe sale wait-list! Definitely hope to get on that as I don't think I've ever paid full price for any shoes lol
So I’m going to love them lol😂. I actually LOVE the 3 so I have time to grieve the departure from 3 so I can be more compassionate and accepting for what it is .
It'd be nice if you show how much room there is in the toebox (lengthwise) with finger presses like The Run Testers do in their videos. Seeing where your toes move in the shoe, it looks like you only have about 0.5cm extra room.
Great review. I have these as well. Loving them so far for my mechanics. Love the marketplace idea! One thing to think about is authenticity. I know eBay offers the authenticity guarantee but that maybe only comes into play with more expensive/high tier shoes.
Tbh I love my Hyperion maxes, probably my favorite shoe besides the dragonfly, definitely gonna get another pair of David goggins as soon as I can and if I can get it from my favorite creator even better
Hyperion Max seems to be a love it or hate it type of shoe. It's been my favorite shoe so far in 2024, too. The Hyperion 2, with the DNA Flash v2 foam might be popular with a wider audience if it doesn't take as long to break in.
I wear the Hyperion tempos too, and it was my favorite shoe before I got the maxes, in my opinion the maxes do everything the tempos do except they do it better
Great review! I'm'm a little disappointed in this shoe. When I think of the rebel, I think of a fast, fun shoe. I didnt want a normal daily trainer. . Don't think I like the direction of this years line. Even the new elite is heavier and more streamlined.
Thanks! And it definitely has more stack but that old character is starting to show up after some more miles - seems like it's a shoe that requires some break in. Stay tuned for more coverage coming on it
Here's the review after 100 miles - I talk about the full experience there 100 Mile Week Review: New Balance Rebel v4 ruclips.net/video/NfN2EgJkIlQ/видео.html
I was hoping to like the Elite V4 , but was too much volume in the shoe for my feet , much prefer a snugger fit. Have gone for the endorphin pro 4 which fits my foot better. hoping the Rebel is a bit lower volume as V3 was one of my all time fav shoes.
I wish I knew the reasons why NB made all these changes. Is this still a good tempo shoe or just another daily trainer? NB’s main workhorse daily trainer is the 880/860.
Basically they made a sc trainer without a plate lol. I feel like they took everything that was great and different about the rebel and said lets just throw that concept in the trash
The Topo Cyclone 2 is more responsive and has a better upper than the NB Rebel 3. I've run in both. Their's a bit more ground feel in the Topo Cyclone 2 than the NB Rebel 3. That might be bad for some, but for me, the ground feel is a good thing. It keeps your biomechanics in check.
@supwell Just a word of advice if you purchase the Topo Cyclone 2. They run half size long. That's just not me talking, but the consensus among the general public who have run in this shoe. I wear a size 11, and I went down to a 10 1/2 and still have a thumb space.
So far have 40 miles on them and outsole is not looking great 😂 but with the v3 outsole wore pretty hard at first and then leveled off so maybe we will see the same thing there
The Hyperion max didn’t work for me either. What size are you? I have some that didn’t work for me and I didn’t return them I time either but my wife has family and friends and neighbors in Mexico so we take all of my gently used shoes to Mexico and they are well loved.
I wonder if the wear you are seeing in the rubber will be similar to what we discussed on the v3. Rubber wearing fast initially, then leveling out after about 125 miles to minimal wear. It’ll be interesting to see your thoughts on the shoe as you put in more miles to see the best use cases for the shoe.
I thought it was very interesting, that you said the fuel cell was the firmer foam, and fresh foam x the softer one. In the older shoes ( I have the 1080 v12 and More v4, both regular and permafrost versions in the fresh foam corner, and the SC Trainer 1, the RC Elite v2 and SC Elite v3 on the other side) it seems to be the other way around. I really enjoyed this video, it gave me a lot to think about. I was never that interested in the Rebel, because I need quite a bit of cushion under the forefoot. Even the 1080 v12 isn't soft enough for me anymore, but I love to walk around in it. I love New Balance, hate the new look. The upper of the Rebel v4 looks sloppy, but the higher stack did make me wonder whether I might like this one. You know, nice soft bouncy fuel cell, and then you said it was firm.... 😂
in the 1080 the fresh foam is super soft, and in here and the sc elite the fuelcell feels a little firmer, especially at slower paces. it's broken in and softened a little bit with more miles, but definitely not as forgiving as fresh foam in the 1080. if you haven't tried the 1080v13 and like super soft shoes, i would highly suggest it - it's extremely comfortable. i am also testing the new 880 soon so we will see how the fresh foam in that compares - it's possible they've used a firmer formulation so that it's more of a durable workhorse vs the 1080
i've put 20+ miles in on gravel trails today and yesterday and they've been great. the higher EVA content and new rubber really helps them stand up to some tougher terrain - much better than v3
eh there is a trend of the midsoles getting wider and wider like clown shoes. sure it's more stable but not everyone has stability problems and it adds weight needlessly
yeah i agree - excess stability features can make some of these speed shoes feel clunky. i don't mind the way the did it here though because they managed to still make it lighter than the last version and thankfully the width doesn't make the shoe feel awkward at all
I have Morton's Toe, and always need a wide version or Topo shoe. The upper in this shoe does not look good with the extra mid foot upper material, in standard version. If I need the wide version, I'm going to have WAY too much mid foot material. Do you like the toe box room in this standard version, or will this shoe not be a good idea for me? Your thoughts?
i really like the size and fit of the upper - it's not narrow at all which is great. if you typically go with wide shoes though you may still need it here. i would suggest trying on in person if you can or ordering through running warehouse when it's available on there i believe next month - they have 90 day return policy
Thanks for the great review. Was excited about this shoe but hoped for a softer fuelcell running sensation. If it reminds you of the adidas sl… uff, I am going to skip this one.
Flexing a running shoe by bending it with your hands is not a good idea. You're creating a flex point in the shoe where it might not match where your own foot naturally flexes. The flex point will evolve to the exact spot where your foot flexes the more you run in them.
Can I wear the Rebel V4 on paved forest paths? Especially in the rain or when the stones and/or gravel are wet? I'm not talking about trails that go straight through the forest, but about firm paths in the woods
@@supwell I actually meant more like gravel forest paths that also have a lot of gravel and sometimes a bit of dirt. By 'paved,' I mean a defined path and not going cross-country through the forest. The clips from your video show pure asphalt. Have you also tested the shoe on gravel paths and, so to speak, light trails?
Yes I have gone through the types of paths you're talking about and it works well. It wouldn't be my first choice given all of the other options on the market with more rubber coverage and better durability (new balance 860v14 and Nike Vomero 17), but it performed better than expected for a lightweight speed-oriented training shoe
@@supwell Okay, thank you, that was very helpful. I will probably decide between the Rebel V4 (my actual favorite shoe) and the Pegasus Trail 5. However, I also ordered the Puma Magnify Max and will test it before making my final decision!

they both need some time to break-in but rebel v4 will likely feel a bit softer because it doesn't have a plate/rods. the rod set up in the boston 12 plus the eva on the bottom stiffen that shoe a lot
The 1080 is a lot more cushioned and comfortable and the rebel is lighter weight and faster but not as protective. So 1080 for comfort for longer runs and rebel if you want something lightweight for short runs
i've put some more miles in them and have been enjoying them - they definitely require some break-in, which i did not expect given how v3 performed right out of the box

Very honest review , completely understandable .. I love it and your new subscriber, I was bit confused between rebel 3 and 4 , clear now
Great review, the v3 is my favourite nb shoe ever, so great to see a comparison from someone else who loved that shoe too!

Thanks for the review! I will stay with my Rebel V3 as I guess that updated version is a bit different shoe than V3.
Thanks for review as I currently have the V3 as my daily trainer and will shortly be looking to an upgrade. 👍

I could only wish for better audio cos you sounded a wee bit muffled. Love your content bro!
I'm gonna have a hard time deciding to choose either:
. New balance rebel v4
. Saucony ride 17
. Hoka mach 6
I watched the video and I thought just the same 😂 I'm sure gonna try all of them
For me hoka Mach 6 is a go to shoes for gym , walk and for light sprint , grips feet well
Love the way the look of the Rebel more than the Elite V4’s!!
Same - they look amazing on foot. Have been rocking them around town too because I like them so much haha
Market place sounds great shame I’m in the UK 😢
So I’m going to love them lol😂. I actually LOVE the 3 so I have time to grieve the departure from 3 so I can be more compassionate and accepting for what it is .
hahaha they are growing on me - but they definitely require break-in. that EVA base is strong
Thanks for the recommendation in another video, I ended up with rebel v3 on sale instead and maybe this v4 next year
It'd be nice if you show how much room there is in the toebox (lengthwise) with finger presses like The Run Testers do in their videos. Seeing where your toes move in the shoe, it looks like you only have about 0.5cm extra room.

I really love the look of these shoes. The color is awesome.
Was it my camera or was I seeing tiny hands of almost green?
It's a deep navy but in the sun and certain lights it can get some hints of green or even purple!

NB’s main workhorse daily trainer is the 880/860.
for me it straddles the line between daily and speed shoe. after putting some more miles in it though i'm enjoying how it's performed at faster paces
How are the v4s for walking? Thinking of pick up a pair for my upcoming Japan trip.
Basically they made a sc trainer without a plate lol. I feel like they took everything that was great and different about the rebel and said lets just throw that concept in the trash
Would be really interested in a comparison between this, the adidas adios 8 (more comparable than takumi I think?) and the Topo Cyclone 2.

i'm definitely getting the new adios 9 when it drops later this year - the cyclone keeps coming up. i'll see if i can get my hands on that as well

If the outsole on these holds up, it might be my Superblast replacement once those reach end of life (if V2 hasn’t come out by then)

Danny Phantom 😂 I heard it’s only 20% peba.. thank you for mentioning mindless consumerism
Yes, the NB rep said the SC Trainer 3 got 20% PEBA, there is no reason to think the Rebel got more PEBA.
The v3 didn’t work for me as I would bottom out the foam on landings but the higher stack on these look very promising
i've heard that from a few runners about v3 - so far i'm about 50 miles in and haven't experienced that at all here

Feet only flex at the forefoot, so that's the only place a shoe needs to be flexible. Didn't look bad on the v4 when you flexed it by hand.
Flexing a running shoe by bending it with your hands is not a good idea. You're creating a flex point in the shoe where it might not match where your own foot naturally flexes. The flex point will evolve to the exact spot where your foot flexes the more you run in them.
@jefreywith1f924 I agree it's not good. But it gives us a visual of stiffness. In that case it should be bent where a foot bends.
