    We can always count on Benny Green to deliver a very unconventional but delicious interpretation.
    Another demonstration of genius.
    R.I.P. Ray. We love ya.

    "For some reason, when it's time for a bass solo... the pianist either stops playing, or he's reached the conclusion that he mustn't clutter up the low register for you, so he plays some trebly clink-clinks. Clickety-click,clink-clink--who the heck can play a solo on top of that?" - Niels-Henning Orsted Pedersen

    Asolutel fantastic - great pace, great swing; perfect.
    What's confusing me a little is that it appears Benny Green is reading the music - surely Blue Monk isn't the most challenging of pieces? Am I wrong in this assumption?

    @cilcsster bcs they spend 6-10 hours a day in one position practicing - which makes them hungry, so they eat, and because they're practicing all day (which makes them great) they don't really have much time to burn off all those calories... Some artists' metabolisms are better predisposed to that type of regiment.

    "Blue Monk" is distinguished by one part. It's the last time the phrase is played (FGFEEbDbD). It starts immediately and unexpectedly on the "weak" beat instead of the strong beat. Consequently, many musicians fudge the 12 bar sequence, adding or subtracting a beat from the opening chorus.Benny may not have played the otherwise simple Bb blues recently.

    There's a video where Ray teaches young bass players and asks the piano to play a walking line as he solos. He probably requested it. I have to admit the piano bass notes are cheesy and unlike a double bass player would use.

    • @kleinequietboykleinequietb7126
      @kleinequietboykleinequietb7126 6 лет назад +1

      Those are mostlyJIMMY fucking SMITH'S walking bass lines, Buford. some are RAY fucking Brown's own "notes". They're called bass LINES, not ".notes". Notes can fall anywhere. Bass lines are the notes played in the proper, effective sequence. Not to simply try to sound more educated, but you are obviously moving beyond the purview of your acumen here. that means you are clueless. Here's another clue. Ray Brown, the best of the best, doesn't hire piano players who play cheese. If you don't like the way the lines SOUND on a piano, fine, but don't call the lines "cheesy" because they aren't. They are first rate, and if you could play them, you'd be known for having a awesome left hand. But i am sure you can't play the lines, since you can neither hear what he is playing, nor the quality he is delivering. Learn the lines, play them on your bass, or piano, or kazoo or whatever it is you pretend to play. Go get schooled, come back and talk about Mr Green's playing when you are a little better informed. "cheesy" ? Jesus, man, you may as well just go write "ignorant cunt" on your forehead.
