This band also played in Hannover that year. I was VERY tired and had really bad mood when I arrived at the venue. When they had played a few bars, I cracked up and my bad mood and tiredness was completely GONE! Really! Such was the positive energy und groove these guys had!
An absolutely monstrous performance !. Thank goodness it was recorded !. It doesn’t get any better than this. Just lifts my heart whenever I listen to it !. We won’t hear their like again. Terrific ! x.
Wow, that's something you don't see and hear everyday, James Morrison performing a one man trumpet/trombone duo, jamming with none other than Ray Brown, Gene Harris and Jeff Hamilton.
What can one say? James Morrison playing with Gene Harris trio. Simply out of this world. I have been collecting jazz records for 60 years and I honestly think that Australian Morrison is the most versatile and talented musician I have EVER heard. I am fortunate in having an Aussie pen pal who sends me all Morrison's CDs as they appear on the Australian market. They are awesome. Check out his big band CD, where he plays EVERYTHING except for the rhythm section. Of course he plays piano too with just as much talent as he shows on trumpet and trombone. And let's not forget Gene Harris - my favourite modern blues pianist, sadly taken before his time. What I need to know is this - Is this combo available on CD anywhere?
I watched this unbelivable number in Moscow in 1989 in Gnessin Music Institute during meetings this greatest combo with the students! What can I say ? Top of the line ! I had the great chance to play jam session with James in the club "Blue Bird" in Moscow! It was unforgettable moment!
Greg: Do Russians love jazz as do French and other Europeans, both Western and Eastern? Sadly, most of my fellow Yanks don't. Merry Christmas to you and Putin.
Man I would kill for the opportunity to go back and see these cats play live. Jeff Hamilton came to my school earlier this year and played a great show with Tamir Hendelman and John Hamar! But for as great as they were, it just doesn't compare to Ray and Gene completing the trio. Or Ray and Benny. Or Ray Gene and Roker.
for jacksonj794: Glad you liked it - feel like I am spreading the word (notes). Ray was my sensei and a close friend. Jim Morrison is crazy - did you hear his opening at Olympic Games? The trio is awesome, check also Monty Alexander and Ray with Benny Green playing "Blue Monk". Monty is a different trio. And this is the guy, who let me play his big bass on Merv Griffin show. SIR RAY BROWN!
I suggest to everybody to check James Morrison, the very big name and famous musician in Australia. I was grounded, not knowing anything about him, but there really is, as "reassert" writes, a pure genius. I travelled with Maynard, but this guy is just more that INCREDIBLE. You have to get to know more about him to appreciate everything - like opening Olympics in Sydney with his big band. Plus he makes everything looking so easy and also is very funny.
I'm sorry, but I have to disagree. He sounds nothing like a hippo, what he's doing is a something really amazing. He's playing below the bar line, notes not originally on the instrument.
it isnt, because this man just showed you he was able to, and for quite a long time. if you dont like my kitten i dont really care, what you think of it is of no importance to me

Good music is better than medicine.
I dig what you are saying, and yes "groove" is the key element/word.
I’ve just listened to Morrison in Dresden, and boy oh boy he’s good 🔥🔥🔥

Ray, Gene and Jeff together make up my all time favorite jazz trio. These guys could play! Jeff still does!!!!

That opening always put a smile on my face. James Morrison = Pure Genius !!

That would have been an amazing experience. James Morrison is one of my favorite Jazz musicians.
Dammit that Morrison has such control ! Playing anything he wants in the trombone without even using the slider..! Wow
Ray il maestro di tutti i contrabassisti.......grandissimo....
I honestly think that James Morrison is the most versatile jazz musician I have ever heard - and believe me brother, I've heard a few!!
Wow! One of the best trombone solos I've ever heard. Impossible to swing any harder than that!
Music speaks for itself.

Mr. Ray Brown plays the Upright Bass as I once performed,... how exciting it is!
Hands down that's the best blues jazz solo on trombone i've ever heard.

Noice.
@aspencrest nevermind, figured it out. James Morrison
ahahahahahah brilliant!
Krupa would have been impressed
How did James Morrison make the Trombone sound like in the beginning of the song?
added singing, but he can sound 2 harmonix also.
See this article for an explanation o what James is doing. trombone.org/articles/library/viewarticles.asp?ArtID=85
only the trom w trigger allows that.
Who's the horn player?
Says so on the title--------
SWINGIN'! That's what it's supposed to sound like. :)
Duke Ellington's tune goes along with a great swing after that guy has finished making hippopotamus noises.....
I'm sorry, but I have to disagree. He sounds nothing like a hippo, what he's doing is a something really amazing. He's playing below the bar line, notes not originally on the instrument.
That is frankly impossible, besides which your kitten is ugly.
it isnt, because this man just showed you he was able to, and for quite a long time. if you dont like my kitten i dont really care, what you think of it is of no importance to me
"That guy" named James Morrison ... He teaches... and swings like a god... and plays below the bar lines...you stupid guy
I am "stupid"? -- Well, you have obviously never heard the bellowing sound of a female hippopotamus on heat....
Awesome Band
