Thanks again for this review, im now a proud owner of the ultra centre in black oak , not the glossy fingerprint nightmare!!!. Only 2 days in but loving it paired with 4 x fein f502 and old mission sub. Couldn't justify £2k for the fein 8 inch centre.
I subscribed! Thanks for the honest review. It looks like SVS puts all the money towards where it counts. the speaker looks amazing and has a very nice low-end response compared to other centers that are cutting off at only 88hz. I hope to be able to afford this one day :)
So, with the average crossover setting (5.1 setup) with a sub being about 80hz, I wonder how much of the dialog is supported by the woofers on this unit or any unit with the bigger woofers and one midrabge.
The cross over is not really abrupt at 80 hz although you set it there. There is a frequency range that both subs and speakers are active and work together. The bigger woofers on Ultra center do not contribute to a lot of base when you have decent subs but the main reason I use it is dialogue clarity.
great review thank you. possibly has made me decide to but. BUT im dizzy now..... : -) please slow down with the camera :) Will be pared with Fyne F502 front and Mission 765i rear (20 years old!) .... any comments ?
Sorry about the video. My newer ones should be better. Your speakers are too good for even for the SVS ultra center. The F502 goes as low as 30Hz. To match those in frequency response range the center channel needs to be around 8inch drivers and that's too big. The solution would be to let the subwoofer do the low frequency work by setting crossover in ypir receiver so your f502 don't try go go lower than 45 hz.
@@starazure thank you would you have a recommendation please. Im currently using a Meridian a500 floor standing speaker on its side!! (20 years old again!) But although my wife agrees it sounds good, "it looks ridiculous and it's not staying!" 🤭
@@adrianmichaelsmith To match what you have, I would suggest www.fyneaudio.com/product/f57sp-8/ www.fyneaudio.com/product/f500c/ (Their website recommends this to go with your F502) I have not listened to either one but specs look very good. KEFs are good in all price ranges. us.kef.com/products/r6-meta If I were you, I would get the f500c. The only issue I see with it is its 2 1/2 way and may not achieve the same level of separation between frequencies as a 3-way speaker. On the other hand, the Ultra center may fall short in performance and not be an ideal match for your F502. Depending on your location, I would check if you can free return so you can audition these at home. SVS for example offers a in home trial for 45 days so you could give it a try and I believe they even send you a free return label. @@starazure thank you for taking the time to reply. I have loaned a 500c but wasn't over impressed. Cant really afford the 8 inch at the moment So may just go for the ultra. Do you know if the new evolution version at £1000 is just a cosmetic upgrade over the £800 ultra or have you tried it and it is worth the 25% premium
Thank you. This does have much deeper bass but I use 2 sub woofers so I assign the work of low frequency to those subs. Hence in my use case, the difference was not much but Ultra center sounded better. I wish it was like $600 then it would be a no brainer upgrade over prime center. If you already have a prime center which will just sit collecting dust once you get the Ultra center, it's not worth $799 + wasted prime center. For a new purchase with one sub, it's worth it if you have the budget.
@@starazure I'm actually trying to decide between purchasing the prime or the ultra. I only have one subwoofer. But need to upgrade my center channel between these two. Your video has helped a lot. Besides more bass output what other features am I getting for the extra $400 ?
@david ross Everything is little better with the Ultra - Clarity, wider sound field, louder without distortion, consistent sound (no remote needed in between a movie). If you have just 4 seats in your theatre my humble suggestion is to go for prime center. If you plan to have more seats especially wider go for Ultra. And if you buy from SVS they have 45 day free returns. (Im not affiliated with SVS)
450C is no comparison to Ultra Center. 504C is powerful but if you have a nice subwoofer, you would prefer better clarity from your center. This is where I recommend 3 way Center designs such as SVS Ultra, Monolith THX 365, ELAC Uni Fi etc.. Short answer is Ultra center or other rated 3 way (Dedicated midrange driver) design speakers.
Prime center is 3 way so dialogue clarity will ve better than those Klipsch. I found prime center to be weak though and lacks the impact. So depends on what's important to you - dialogue clarity or that extra punch in the lows. If you have a nice subwoofer, that will take care of lows and prime center will be ok.
@@starazure Thanks again. Have you heard either Monolith Encore C5 or Monolith Encore C6 ? I would like to hear your take on it. Both are 2 way center channel so not comparing to SVS Prime but would really like your take on it.
They’re beautiful! But cheap crossover, no copper wires, very cheap and inductor & capacitor. I upgrade to high quality and copper parts. Took it to a whole another level
Polk R400 is just 2 way design and seems expensive in the US. Specs look great other than that. . I think the Elac Uni Fi center which is currently on sale at $280 is better 2 way speaker. Or even the SVS Prime Center which is 3 way.

Great review and I personally really enjoy a little prop comedy. New sub!

I like that you mention the sections. I hope yourcchannel becomes succesful. Nice review. Im considering it.
I bought mine before the big price jump, took about six months to break in, but the clarity and vocals are just outstanding.
Muchas Gracias por este video! Saludos desde MEXICO!

I got the oak ones myself, my OCD wouldn’t let me get the gloss version.
Best center svs ultra center speaker 👍😃👍

It’s time to update this line; with silk dome tweeters and magnetic grilles. And better crossover
Where does it say magnetic grille?
@@starazure it does not say that.
I’m saying SVS should update the Ultra line

I am making an all budget comparison video - SVS Ultra ($799) vs SVS Prime($399) vs JBL 520 C($269) vs Jamo S81($89) coming out this Thursday night.
@@starazure thanks so much and I will be checking out the video on Thursday.
Since you have tested them both, which is the better center channel: The Monolith THX 365C Ultra or the SVS Ultra Center?
The Ultra center is definitely better than the Monolith THX 365C but it's also $350 more.
svs ultra evolution center or old Svs Ultra Center which one best movie performance??
Sorry for not seeing this comment. You should get the new evolution ultra center for improved fidelity and clarity.
Can we use this on Yamaha a8a? Or needed an power amplifier with it? I already have crown xli800
A8A is plenty for this. I use it with Yamaha V6A which is less powerful!
I have this and it sounds low. Had to crank the power up
Same here and sounds boxy
What did you rub the crossover at?
80 Hz. I have two large subs SVS PB2000 Pro and Monolith M12 V2 so letting them do the job as it tapers to lower frequencies.
SVS ultra center vs Klipsch 450c or Klipsch 504c? What are your thoughts?
