cos grime is inherently pretty lyrical whilst artists like Future and Thuggee isn't really about the lyrics and words so it doesn't bother people as much
Top 10 grime projects imo: 1. Ruff Sqwad - Guns & Roses Vol. 2 2. Dizzee Rascal - Boy in Da Corner 3. Tempa T - All Star Pras 4. The Streets - Original Pirate Material 5. Kano - Made in the Manor 6. Wiley - Playtime Is Over 7. Skepta - Konnichiwa 8. Durrty Goodz - Axiom 9. Ruff Sqwad - Guns & Roses Vol. 1 10. JME - Integrity
Daryl Mitchell I don't really consider the streets grime. More like garage rap. Also what do you think of a grand don't come for free? I prefer it to original pirate material
Milo Hempel Yeah you're right about The Streets, but I feel like they kinda crossover. Fans of grime can appreciate The Streets. Great, great album. It's more cohesive and accessible, but Original Pirate Material has a much more unique heavier sound.
Yeah I'd put Godfather at number 9 and take off Konnichiwa which kinda went stale for me since I made this comment (just ahead of Integrity). Make no mistake, even though none of his albums made my top 5, I recognise he's still the grime GOAT no doubt.
Skepta was one of the few times where I feel like the British accent actually enhanced the music a lot, and I'm an American. But how could you guys completely gloss over Man (Gang) and That's Not Me?? Those songs were some of the best on the album!
A lot of people don't like the UK accent but I like it because it brings a new sound/flavor - especially with all that slang thrown in! I thought this album was dope (high energy & lots of bangers) so I gotta stay on the lookout for new UK stuff to peep!
Myke!!!!! if you read this you need to listen to the pirate radio sets. Popular pirate radio stations in grime's heyday were RINSE FM and DEJA VU for example. That in essence is grime at its best. Check 'silverdrizzle's youtube channel and you'll see a whole slew of them on that page as well as tons of songs. Also, grime is more or less black britain's response to punk...and three six mafia, project pat, timbaland, pharrell and heatmakers were heavy influences in various quarters of the grime scene if we're talking about hip hop's influence. Just so you know, grime comes from UK garage and the reason the mc's spit the way they do is because of most of the mc's coming from the lineage of the Jungle/UK Garage/Pirate Radio structure as well as UK clubbing. We spit fast because our music is fast. Dizzee Rascal - Boy In Da Corner Kano - Home Sweet Home Ruff Sqwad - Guns & Roses Vol 1 Wiley - Da 2nd Phaze Start with those 4 albums and go from there but seriously, listen to pirate radio sets...then it'll click in your head why UK MC's and music are the way they are ALSO go to tooblunttv's youtube channel...he's an american that dedicates his channel to solely reviewing UK underground music...maybe he'll make the transition to understanding this type of music easier for you via relatability Safe
Word to silverdrizzle. His channel is excellent. Got loads of pirate sets up on there and loads of the old school sub low beats. If the yanks really wanna know what the crack is with grime then you gotta start with the sub low era and work your way forward. Them old Jon E Cash instrumentals are a good starting point.
Listening to Danny Brown and the rest of Bruiser Brigade made it easy for me to get into production that can normally be found in grime music. All I had to do is get used to the UK slang and accent and I was fine.
I don't usually comment but am a long time fan of your hip hop vlog. I'm from the UK (into US hip hop probably more than UK grime or hip hop) and thought I would address Myke's comments. You're absolutely right when you said you can hear EDM influences in Skepta's work. It's important to make a distinction between grime and hip hop. Whilst grime does have a lot of influences from hip hop, it also takes influences from dnb, garage, dancehall (other genres that are popular in the UK to a certain extent), so it's valid to say that grime artists are rapping over a beat, the beat's just a bit more fucked up and quicker in bpm, that's why if you ask many grime artists in the UK, they'll tell you that hip hop is obviously a major influence in them but they really see the hip hop and grime genre as two separate entities. The relation to the trap scene in the US is valid, and I see similarities. I'm very pleased that you decided to review this, as someone from London (who isn't necessarily a grime head), UK rap or grime has been due its props for a while. If you like Skepta, I'd try and dabble in the original godfather of grime that is WIley. Skepta even admits himself that grime would be nowehere without this guy. Another artist who you may like and I think could become huge would be Meridian Dan. He usually has a great flow and great beats behind his work. Love your work, keep it up.
Grime/UK Rap Classics: Flowdan - Original Dan Ghetts - Rebel With A Cause Ghetto - Freedom Of Speech Wiley - Playtime Is Over Durrty Goodz - Born Blessed President T - Back Inna My face Vol 1 Big H - Street Crime UK Stana - HMP Giggs - Walk In Da Park Giggs - Let Em Ave It Kano - Home Sweet Home Dizzee Rascal - Boy In da Corner Newer MCs to check out as well - PK, RocksFOE, Mez, Gaika, Kojey Radical, Gaika, 67, Elf Kid, Loyle Carner, Izzie Gibbs, Little Simz, Cadet
Im glad Myke liked it so much. Its the best album this year for sure. How come none of you couldnt mention the track "Man" tho? Hardest track on the album easily!
Thank you for reviewing this! Nice to see some uk artists getting recognised in the states! Been watching from the uk since 2011, big fan keep doing what you do!
so glad myke loved it, wasnt sure what hed think about it tbh. predicted the others' opinions tho. definitely agree with the three 6 sound on it aint safe, i thought i was the only one who heard that, with the horns and murky bass and shit. dope review guys!
Wiley's the godfather of the genre which actually was more an amalgamation of garage, 2 step and hiphop, rather than EDM. Worth checking out Ghetts, Section Boyz(more trappy), Novelist or some Lord of the Mics clashes will update you on Grimes history a bit
I remember when yous were asked about the UK rap scene back in the day and none of yous really knew about it. fuckin buzzin just shows how far its come! keep doin ur thing DEHH!
The album's production is really trap influenced. 'Real' (for lack of a better word) grime production probably isn't too US friendly cos it came out of UK rave/soundsystem culture (very dark and dubsteppy). Novelist is a sick grime mc and producer btw, doing some really interesting stuff rn, defo check him out. If you want some UK hiphop, Loyle Carner is lyrically really impressive, and the production on his tracks super smooth and jazzy

Myke we had that little convo about Grime music on the previous video if you remember. Just wanted to say that I'm glad you enjoyed this album and getting into Grime. Great review👌
When they're talking about the UK accent I think they're more accustomed to the Queen's English, as most Americans probably are. So I disagree with feefo when he said Skepta sounded more like reggae artist than a UK artist.
Fair play for reviewing it guys. It seems that a lot of UK genres are unknown in the US. Anyway I'd recommend Jme and Wiley next; starting with the early stuff.
Corn on the curb doesn't mean to face stomp someone.. London slang corn = bullets, phrases like " sending corn at someone" mean to shoot. The curb is the side of the road, so it jus means bullet casings on the floor
The thing you guys need to know is that there's a black accent in england and it differs from region! The black uk accent comes from the fact that black people from england are either immigrants or descendants from immigrants from the carribean and africa!
Other grime rappers for DEHH as im from the UK 67 Wretch 32 Stormzy Dave AJ Tracey JME Giggs Section Boyz Lethal Bizzle Big Zuu Wiley Krept and Konan Chipmunk Yungen Nines C-Biz
As a big Skepta fan from the UK, known of him from '05 and seen him live. Think you'll be shocked at his other 3 projects, they were cool, but were quite pop, at that time Skepta was going to the sales and expanding his fan base, so it's thanks to Drake and Kanye that he's now just making what he wants and the whole world is hearing it!
Kano - Made in the Manor is the best grime album this year so far. But Skepta killed this though. Listen to Kano - "Ps & Q's", "3 Wheel Up" and "Hail" those are insane ( 3 Wheel Up & Hail are on Made in the Manor". A hard Grime MC I'd recommend is Giggs, but you might not understand his voice it's crazy deep.
I'm from London born and raised but I'm not and have never been into grime music but I'm happy to see them finally getting somewhere they've been doing their thing for a minute now
Myke check out: Skepta - Blacklisted Skepta - Microphone Champion Ghetts - Calm Before The Storm Giggs - Walk In Da Park Wiley - Playtime Is Over Newer artists that are hard and don't have albums out yet: Stormzy Santan Dave AJ Tracey Novelist
widely considered the best grime album of all time, and I'm not just saying that, it's what konnichiwa is compared to, is Boy in Da Corner by Dizzee Rascal.
DUUUUUUDE .... YES Most listenable, straight through, Grime album since Boy In The Corner. Wiley had a couple decent ones back in the Roll Deep days, but he would always have a fire track the like 2 or 3 off-the-wallers then another fire track ... honestly If Wiley would've stayed on it like Skepta did, I think he woulda got there before Skepta.
This has probably already been suggested but you guys should definitely check out Stprmzy. Out of all the grime acts over here, he's gained the most traction and his songs are so darn catchy even if you're not a hardcore grime fan. I would highly recommend Shut Up and Know Me From. I don't think he has an album but he has mixtapes called Wickedskengman. Also, check out Lady Leshurr's Queen Speech series 1 to 5 but especially 4 because that one is pure fire. BBK (Boy Better Know) is another group to check out as well; it which will exposé you to more grime artists such as JME (definitely listen to Man Don't Care) and many others who have been in the scene since it started just over a decade ago. One more thing: if you want to see the origins of grime, you must, must check out Wiley; he's a legend in the scene.
You guys need (more specifically myke) to listen to Roots Manuva. He's like the UK's answer to Busdriver, he's quite big over here, especially in indie circles.
I wouldn't be ashamed of saying the only grime you know is Kano and Dizzee. Dizzee's boy in the corner and Kano's home sweet home are in most well knowledgeable grime fans top 3 albums, hell even kano's new album Made in the Manor probably sneaks in the top 10 for me.
Such a dope album wish my notification hadn't gone on leave so I could've been notificatified earlier. Been following Skepta been a minute he's nice Lil Simz and a few others I follow are dope.
really nice to see a Grime review on here, shows the power of the internet lool erm the top UK artists imo that you might wanna check out are Kano Wretch 32 Ghetts Chipmunk Devlin Giggs Stormzy krept and Konan some good platforms for this are GRM Daily, Link up Tv, SBTV, 1Extras fire in the booth and the artists ive listed individual youtubes
Honestly I'm a bit disappointed in some of the ignorant remarks about grime/UK rap. But I understand because It's like a different (sub-)genre. Especially for people whose taste in hiphop looks like Beezy and Ken's, putting a grime album in your hands is like putting Eric B & Rakim, Illmatic or Madvillainy in the hands of a kid who only knows Future and Young Thug. You gotta really get into grime and its culture in order to understand what it's all about, the same goes for lyrical boom bap jazz/rnb sample based hip hop too. I'm sure that if you did, you'd grow to love it. But all in all I enjoyed the video, much much love to all five of yall! DEHH videos makes this world a better place!
People that sound like Skepta for Mike: -Jme. Please listen to him. Skepta's actual brother, he is just as big in the UK I'd say. he can be hilarious, raw voice, hard delivery, very good bars. Underrated lyricist in my opinion. Also advocates veganism heavily (which makes me respect him even more since I found that out) -Novelist. He is only like 19 years old and is VERY new but he will be a star. So sick. -Stormzy (obviously), but seen as though you hadnt heard of Skepta you might not have heard of Stormzy! He's only been about for a few years but he's fire. -Wiley. He is just a legend in the grime scene man so good. Surprised you haven't heard of him. -Frisco, hes a member of BBK with Skepta, Jme, and others like Shorty, Jammer, Solo 45, as well as Wiley and even Drake now. In fact, on the subject of BBK, listen to them go in together on radio shows and cyphers. Its a fucking hype and everybody in this country loves them, they bring so much energy and they really are a legendary group that will go down in history in the UK. -Nines is much slower and seems to have more complex, clever bars. Probably easier to understand. -Ghetts. OH MY GOD talk about energy and hype, no one does it like Ghetto. Gets me pumped every time -Giggs. The godfather of grime. raspy voice, brutal delivery, raw as fuck although not one of the most interesting grime artists nowadays.
Great review! Skepta is holding it down for us UK residents! If you enjoyed Skepta you should check out Stormzy, JME (pronounced Jay Em E, not Jamie by the way haha), Ghetts, Giggs. Oh, the guy on the end of that track Myke is talking about it Chip. He had a beef with Bugzy Malone and they had 3 or 4 songs going off at each other. Definitely worth checking out Love from the UK!
Wretch 32 (UK Kendrick) *pay attention more to his recent freestyles and videos* | Chip (One of the best lyricists/MC's... Used to be signed to TI's Grand Hustle) *Check his Rap Vs Grime mixtape* | Krept and Konan (More UK Hip-Hip they specialise in more punchlines, bars that make you think and songwriting e.g with hooks, features etc...) *They released a album called The Long Way Home. Also they did this through a partnership with Def Jam*
Yo - So glad you guys reviewed this, I'm from the UK and love grime. Myke you should try listening to Giggs, JME, Section Boyz or Stormzy. All dope as hell
Few Grime Artist to check out Novelist Stormzy Chip (the guy who hyped skepta up at the end of "Corn On The Curb" myke was speaking about) Ghetts Dot Rotten/Zeph Ellis P money Wiley D Double E JME Rap wise Wretch Giggs Avelino Youngs Teflon
Myke, if you want albums which sound as grimy and as good as these, check these out for sure: Dizzee Rascal - Boy in Da Corner (before he went pop, this is a grime classic) Wiley - Treddin' on thin ice JME - Integrity> There are loads more but these albums are brilliant starting points
List of must-listen records for those looking to get into UK rap & Grime: *Dizzee Rascal - Boy In Da Corner, Showtime, Maths + English* he may have gone downhill with his later work, but these 3 records are incredible, beats, lyrics, flows, all dope. however, you may need the help of Rap Genius to understand some of his slang. *Kano - any of his albums or mixtapes* Kano is a lyrical beast and one of the best, most accessible UK rappers. be sure to check him out, although this might be another one for rap genius. *Giggs - any of his albums or mixtapes* if you're looking for hardcore gangsta rap, this guy has made some of the UK's best. he does have a really thick cockney accent though. *Lowkey - Soundtrack To The Struggle* a Politically conscious rapper, who can stand up there with the likes of of Lupe Fiasco and Immortal Technique (the latter of whom has a really dope guest verse). *Plan B - Ill Manors* thought-provoking rap music about ghetto life in the UK, although still digestible and interesting for non-british listeners. *Sway DeSafo - The Signature LP* Sway is a lyrical genius. the album does have that electronic production style, but Sway masters it and the bars are just insane. he has bangers, conscious tracks, and some lighthearted songs that will make you laugh. *Ghetts - Rebel With A Cause, Freedom Of Speech* this guy also has a thick accent, but if you like Kano and Skepta for their lyrics and production, you'll probably like Ghetts as well. *Skepta - Konnichiwa, Microphone Champion, Greatest Hits (yes, that's the title of his album, not a compilation)* you've already heard from the DEHH guys that Skepta is awesome, anyone who liked this Album will like his first two.
Skepta sounds like a "reggae" dude because London slang is heavily influenced by the immigrants from the Caribbean
correct
no.
+BVNDOO yes...
Ope na fam....
+BVNDOO so you're telling me it wasn't yardie's that brought half our current slang with them? Like Wagwan? Gyallis? Waste man? List goes on bruv

It's interesting how Americans have trouble with the accents yet listen to people like Future and Young Thug.
BIG FACTS BUT HELLA PEOPLE WILL TELL YOU THEY DON'T UNDERSTAND A WORD THUGGA OR FUTURE SAYS
Thats cuz thugger and future just have southern accents
Accents not that big a deal unless it’s thick, you can understand SKEPTA easily
cos grime is inherently pretty lyrical whilst artists like Future and Thuggee isn't really about the lyrics and words so it doesn't bother people as much
Dizzee's Boy In Da Corner is the Illmatic of Grime.
that is so fucking true!
Serious
Real talk, been saying this for years!
Top 10 grime projects imo:
1. Ruff Sqwad - Guns & Roses Vol. 2
2. Dizzee Rascal - Boy in Da Corner
3. Tempa T - All Star Pras
4. The Streets - Original Pirate Material
5. Kano - Made in the Manor
6. Wiley - Playtime Is Over

I prefer treddin to playtime tbh
Skepta was one of the few times where I feel like the British accent actually enhanced the music a lot, and I'm an American. But how could you guys completely gloss over Man (Gang) and That's Not Me?? Those songs were some of the best on the album!
C-Town's gonna love hearing JME rapping about being a vegan lmao
Of course Feefo likes the shit song on the album.
Haha
Sit yo ugly ass down. Lame ass
So Feefo isn't entitled to his own opinion.

I don't usually comment but am a long time fan of your hip hop vlog. I'm from the UK (into US hip hop probably more than UK grime or hip hop) and thought I would address Myke's comments. People to check from the grime scene, JME, Stormzy, Wiley, Kano, Ghetts, Chip, Lowkey, Krept & Konan
Does anyone remember when Pass The Dutchie by Musical Youth was a big success in America? Those were the days when accent wasn't a big deal.
The London, UK accent is very similar to the Toronto accents as both are heavily influenced by Jamaican culture.
stormzy for this type of grime
Akala - fire in the booth = real deep, intelligent content
Corn on the curb doesn't mean to face stomp someone.. London slang corn = bullets, phrases like " sending corn at someone" mean to shoot. The curb is the side of the road, so it jus means bullet casings on the floor
Respect for reviewing this project man, shout out from uk

As a big Skepta fan from the UK, known of him from '05 and seen him live. Think you'll be shocked at his other 3 projects, they were cool, but were quite pop, at that time Skepta was going to the sales and expanding his fan base, so it's thanks to Drake and Kanye that he's now just making what he wants and the whole world is hearing it!
In conclusion: They say 'accents' about 920 times.
ABOUT GOT DAMN TIME
I'm from London born and raised but I'm not and have never been into grime music but I'm happy to see them finally getting somewhere they've been doing their thing for a minute now
jme has an album called integrity its fire
Def check out Wiley's catalogue (Playtime's Over is a good starting point) and Section Boyz

Myke check out:

Newer artists that are hard and don't have albums out yet:
Stormzy
Santan Dave
AJ Tracey
Novelist
widely considered the best grime album of all time, and I'm not just saying that, it's what konnichiwa is compared to, is Boy in Da Corner by Dizzee Rascal.
DUUUUUUDE .... YES
Most listenable, straight through, Grime album since Boy In The Corner.
One more thing: if you want to see the origins of grime, you must, must check out Wiley; he's a legend in the scene.
the title track is the hardest track on this project
You guys need (more specifically myke) to listen to Roots Manuva. He's like the UK's answer to Busdriver, he's quite big over here, especially in indie circles.
I wouldn't be ashamed of saying the only grime you know is Kano and Dizzee. Dizzee's boy in the corner and Kano's home sweet home are in most well knowledgeable grime fans top 3 albums, hell even kano's new album Made in the Manor probably sneaks in the top 10 for me.
Greetings from London! Check out Ghetts, Stormzy, D Double E, JME, Novelist, AJ Tracey, Big Zuu. Just some guys killing it over here.
this dude ken doesn't like anything lol
Is this a joke? I don't recall disliking this.
+Kennith Inge LMAO
+Kennith Inge you gotta call it a classic or they'll say it's trash
+Kennith Inge Its kinda become a running gag now based on prior reviews I guess now, lol.
+Kennith Inge lmao
Such a dope album wish my notification hadn't gone on leave so I could've been notificatified earlier. Been following Skepta been a minute he's nice Lil Simz and a few others I follow are dope.
Listen to Kano-made in the manor
Much love wasn't expecting a review for this
I wish they'd review Kano - Made in the Manor
I feel like they really would have fucked with that
+Olumide Sobodu Definitely
Corn on the curb means they are are spraying bullets (corn) on the side of a road (curb). Your alternative was good tho
Bless from uk 🇬🇧🇬🇧
His accent is common in London
really nice to see a Grime review on here, shows the power of the internet lool
erm the top UK artists imo that you might wanna check out are
Kano
Wretch 32
Ghetts
Chipmunk
Devlin
Giggs
Stormzy
krept and Konan
some good platforms for this are GRM Daily, Link up Tv, SBTV, 1Extras fire in the booth and the artists ive listed individual youtubes
Myke if you're reading this and are looking to get into grime here's a few people:
Bugzy Malone, Scrufizzer, Wiley, Crazy Titch, JME, Krept and Konan
What about Grizzy bruv. Stormzy too
+Ope I think Stormzy is wack but Myke might like him
Honestly I'm a bit disappointed in some of the ignorant remarks about grime/UK rap. DEHH videos makes this world a better place!
arrogance towards the accent annoys me but i can understand. Grime sounds like EDM since it originates from garage and drum & base
Should check out Mouse Outfit, Fliptrix and Verb T, dope british hip hop artists.
People that sound like Skepta for Mike:
-Jme. Please listen to him. Skepta's actual brother, he is just as big in the UK I'd say. he can be hilarious, raw voice, hard delivery, very good bars. Underrated lyricist in my opinion. Also advocates veganism heavily (which makes me respect him even more since I found that out)
-Novelist.
Gets me pumped every time
-Giggs. The godfather of grime. raspy voice, brutal delivery, raw as fuck although not one of the most interesting grime artists nowadays.
Wretch 32, Avelino, Bugzy Malone
Giggs is not the godfather of grime haha.
Damn you typed allat out just for him not to read it haha
Great review! Skepta is holding it down for us UK residents! If you enjoyed Skepta you should check out Stormzy, JME (pronounced Jay Em E, not Jamie by the way haha), Ghetts, Giggs.
Oh, the guy on the end of that track Myke is talking about it Chip. He had a beef with Bugzy Malone and they had 3 or 4 songs going off at each other. Definitely worth checking out
Love from the UK!
Checkout Stormzy and his video Scary. It's darker and more raw than Skepta imo
Also they did this through a partnership with Def Jam*
iiidrops
corner store and money & bitches my favorite tracks

Yo - So glad you guys reviewed this, I'm from the UK and love grime. Myke you should try listening to Giggs, JME, Section Boyz or Stormzy. All dope as hell
Skepta is not trying to go into the US commercial rap
Cham J looool how times have changed check him out now he’s hanging around with Americans a lot now and is definitely abusing substances
Also Check out JME and the whole BBK crew. I would also recommend Tempz- Next Hype. It bumps in the whip and it's also a grime classic IMO
Stormzy and bugzy malone have new projects soon..
#murky2016
+Coach Pettigrew *merky hahaha

I got in to this nigga a few months ago and I love em, he made me fuck with grime heavy now there's so much talent in the UK
Theres a lot of great MCs from the grime scene, but I think Myke would be really into Ghetts especially
never thought id see the day you guys would review a uk album
Just looked dude up. "It Ain't Safe" made it through the first verse...........I'm sold.
corn is live rounds so when he says corn on the curb i think he means shell casings
I don't know too much about grime, (been listening to it for a year maybe) but I would say that this is how the beats tipically sound like
Mystikal bit has me in tears 😭😭😭 another solid review
Myke, if you want albums which sound as grimy and as good as these, check these out for sure:
Dizzee Rascal - Boy in Da Corner (before he went pop, this is a grime classic)
Wiley - Treddin' on thin ice
JME - Integrity>
There are loads more but these albums are brilliant starting points
List of must-listen records for those looking to get into UK rap & Grime:
*Dizzee Rascal - Boy In Da Corner, Showtime, Maths + English* he may have gone downhill with his later work, but these 3 records are incredible, beats, lyrics, flows, all dope. however, you may need the help of Rap Genius to understand some of his slang.
*Skepta - Konnichiwa, Microphone Champion, Greatest Hits (yes, that's the title of his album, not a compilation)* you've already heard from the DEHH guys that Skepta is awesome, anyone who liked this Album will like his first two.
this is the best recommendation list on here 👍
So sick to see you guys reviewing a uk album 🙌🏽 review Kano made in the manor!
I'm from England and FUCK YES MAN you guys fucking get it, well done lads.
