Shireen (Stannis' daughter) is not really deformed. She is scarred because she contracted the disease called "Greyscale" and survived. Greyscale is a little bit like a fantasy leprosy, it is highly contagious and it usually drives you insane while also covering your body in "scales" (deformed skin coving pus and infection).
The fact that Shireen survived with her mind intact is pretty remarkable in Westeros, but Stannis keeps her locked away due to a fear that people will be freaked out by her appearance and will probably think she is still carrying the disease even though she is now cured.

@@emspen8425 Mycah didn't do anything to Joffrey, and even if he had, he wasn't currently when Sandor found him. Sandor wasn't defending Joffrey. Mycah ran - so what? You think the Hound on horseback couldn't capture a fleeing child without killing them, if he had cared about that at all?
Sandor killed a kid because he's so lost in his cynical, amoral world view where nothing matters but violence and survival. It's a coping mechanism from all he has been through growing up; his brother's abuse, the suspicious deaths of his family members, taking part in the sacking of a city at just twelve years old. Underneath that coping mechanism is a man who actually can care, and we see that. But he also used it to just kill a defenseless, fleeing child.
Theon murdered two young boys from a position of technically being in power and making the decisions, but it's also clear that Theon felt pressured into it, like he "had" to. He was very visibly uncomfortable with it, but he is so desperate to earn he respect of his people that he keeps doing things he feels are wrong. Theon deeply lacks a sense of belonging, of true family, and his sense of identity is fragile from having been taken from his people to be a hostage.
Both these men have understandable reasons for feeling the way they do, both experience external pressures to do what they do, but ultimately they both do something awful and inexcusable. That doesn't mean we can't like them, or hope for a redemption. But they aren't meaningfully different, morally speaking. At least I don't find them to be.

I like seeing your perspective of the series, it's alot more intelligent than most people I've seen watch the show.
In terms of Jaime though I have to say I was pretty fond of him at this point, I still think trying to kill Bran was terrible but if word of what Bran saw got out him, Cersie and their kids would be executed so I could see the scenario from his perspective a little better in retrospect. But he and Cersie were also stupid enough to think they could fuck in somebody else's home without getting caught so it is still on them.
But other than that his only crime we ever see is him being arrogant, when he attacks Ned it's because Tyrion was kidnapped by Ned's family.
And even his arrogance is picked apart as an act by Tywin pretty early, an attempt to embrace the "Kingslayer" role instead of living in shame if you will.
And I think his choice to save Brienne twice as well as his choice to sacrifice his own honor and reputation to save King's Landing from mad dad Aerys after taking an oath that automatically made the only legacy he could ever leave be memory of his honor and reputation shows how heroic he can be when he's not being influenced by his toxic as fuck family.
And on the religious note, both the religions of Rh'lor and the Old Gods are based around magic. Rh'lor is based on blood and fire magic while the Old God's is based on natural magic so the believers of both have a superiority complex over other religions because from their perspective they actually see and enact real "miracles" while the other religions only have stories and traditions.

Jaime used the fact that the city survived to make himself feel better because he knows he's just as awful as the rest of the Lannisters. The reason he loves Tyrion is because he respects him and wishes he could be more like him. But Jaime is weak. He lets Cersei and his father manipulate him. He hates who he is. When he is away from them, you see a glimpse of the man he *could* be, but nothing that he does can ever be justified because the second he's back with is family, he's back to being horrible and he allows it to happen because he isn't strong enough to walk away from them. But my father arrived first with the whole Lannister army at his back, promising to defend the city against the rebels. I knew my father better than that. He's never been one to pick the losing side. I told the Mad King as much. I urged him to surrender peacefully. But the king didn't listen to me. He didn't listen to Varys who tried to warn him. But he did listen to Grand Maester Pycelle, that grey sunken cunt. "You can trust the Lannisters," he said "The Lannisters have always been true friends of the crown". So we opened the gates and my father sacked the city. Once again, I came to the king, begging him to surrender. He told me to bring him my father's head. Then he turned to his pyromancer. "Burn them all," he said "Burn them in their homes. Burn them in their beds". Tell me, if your precious Renly commanded you to kill your own father and stand by while thousands of men, women, and children burned alive, would you have done it? Would you have kept your oath then?"
Notice he waited to kill the mad king until after his father had sacked the city. If he cared about the people, he would have killed the mad king before that happened, but he waited until he was ordered to kill his father. He murdered the mad king to save his father. He used the fact that the city was saved as a way to justify his actions. I'm not making anything up.

@TheAuthorIsNotDead You asked me why I was making up my own story. I showed you that I wasn't making anything up. I never said his primary goal was advancing his family's position. I said he wanted to save his family. He knew what the mad king was capable of, but he had taken a vow, and he used that vow to justify allowing atrocities to happen. He watched the Starks (and a lot of other people) get burned alive and did nothing. He watched the city get sacked and did nothing. It wasn't until he was ordered to kill his own father that he broke his oath. Murdering the mad king wasn't a heroic act. It was a selfish one. He didn't care about saving the city. He only cared about his father and himself.
And writers aren't always honest. They love to mislead. They show you what a character is through his actions and expect you to pay attention. Jaime's actions were selfish. So that whole story about how he killed the mad king could be a complete lie because Jaime is the one who told it, and he is not a reliable narrator.

just to give my 2 cents on your thoughts about Theon. The reason why i feel bad for him during this time is because he realised his mistake before any torture. All the shit he's done, literally everything, is in the hopes of gaining his fathers love. "My real father died in King's Landing". So Theon has recognised his mistake, but is now trapped in an endless cycle of torment for no real reason. The Bolton's aren't torturing him for information.
Just like you only make peace with your enemies, you only forgive people who have done wrong in the past. Granted we haven't been shown any effort on Theon's part to earn forgiveness, but then he also hasn't exactly had many opportunities to.

    Ramsey's dogs are Cane Corso's.
Also, the religions of this world are factual. Though there is much less physical evidence for the "old gods and the new" compared to the Lord of Light. Melisandre gave birth to a shadow demon that assassinated Renley Baratheon... She threw 3 leeches into a fire and told Stannis to name 3 people to die. The first name was Robb Stark, the second was Joffrey Baratheon...
The Brotherhood Without Banners are also followers of the Lord of Light, and their leaders have magical powers as well. Thoros has the ability to resurrect Beric, and Beric has the ability to enchant his sword with fire, as seen in season 3 when Beric fought the Hound in trial by combat.

Hard not to feel bad for a man that had his manhood taken away by force with a knife, ya know?
Also of course Theon cared, he loved Robb like a brother. He's spent months being starved, beaten, cut, mutilated for life and being played with psychologically. Even in the broken state that he's in right now, he knows that if he did kill Ramsey then Roose would punish him. The Bolton's do NOT believe in quick and painless deaths if they can help it, Theon's death would possibly make what Ramsey has been doing up til now seem like mild discomfort.

What I find amazing about GOT reactions is that you realise people are so quick to try and create "categories" i.e. these characters are "good" and I like them, and these ones are "bad" and I dislike them.
This whole show is trying to force you to be less partisan. Theons arc reminds me of that scene in the Green Mile when Del gets cooked. The crowd is wishing for him to burn in hellfire until they see him burning and melting in agony, and quickly they are screaming for someone to put him out of his misery and show mercy.
    It's a basic ethics thing really: a wrong doesn't correct a wrong.

I agree in reality that killing in the name of your religion is obviously wrong. However, within the context of this show, it actually makes MUCH more sense. The priests of the Red God (eg. Mellisandre) practice human sacrifice to fuel their magic. Similarly, the followers of the Old Gods of the north used human sacrifice in their rituals, and the Faceless Men are the priests of the god of death, who kill in the name of the god that gave them their powers (both assisted suicide and assassination).
Ironically, Joffrey got off kind light here, as this is nothing compared to some of the vengeance delivered in the coming seasons.

My advice is too not draw definitive judgements towards characters until you see their whole arc. Most of the characters in this show are capable of both good and evil. Just like most people. They do things for selfish reasons. Like most people. The show is very well written. Understanding true motives will help you get why things are done.

Theon has suffered a form of torture that’s far beyond anything we’ve seen on the show. I agree that he’s basically a Quisling, and even though the boys weren’t his almost-brothers, he still killed two children for clout. I don’t forgive Theon, but I still feel bad because there is no act that can justify that torture. What do some people «deserve»? It’s not easy to answer but if Robb had taken Winterfell and executed him I’d feel it was justified.

Ya see NO good in Jaime yet? That whole "my name is Jaime" speech with Brienne in the bath shed no positive light on him for you? He's definitely a little stinkass, but that scene in Season 3 totally puts his character in a new light and even sheds new light on Ned Stark and his "honor", and how that's not always 100% correct at the end of the day. Jaime saved King's Landing and can only capitalize on the "Kingslayer" name because it was given to him. (Wonderful reaction as always sir.)

I feel like in terms of Theon I'd say the punishment no longer fits the crime. If we go off of were you are at in the story if Theon was killed a season ago I'd say the punishment would have fit. but We've begun to come to a point were what he's being put through is extreme for the crimes he did commit. if we approach it logically which from the reactions I watch you are very logical.

Your read on Theon is so off and it isn’t because of anything he does later in the series. He does care that Rob is dead, he just has been beaten down so severely that he won’t show much reaction. What he did was wrong but no one deserves endless torture like he’s forced to endure. The whole point of this show is that people aren’t all good or all bad and you’ll see that in lots of different ways through the show. Theon’s not a well liked character in general but he does love the Stark family, he also wanted to be loved and accepted by his own father.
