Did you know that the average physically inactive man loses close to 1% of muscle mass each year after turning 30?
This is also the point after which we typically start to gain more fat, and the worse thing is that the longer we take to get rid of this fat the more stubborn it becomes!
Today I share with you the three most common mistakes men make and get out of shape after thirty.
Of course, 30 is not old!
But! It is the tipping point after which if we don’t take care of ourselves, things start escalating a lot faster and often before we realize it!

Training at 30 is as easy as training at 20. The same principles apply: proper warm-up, stretching after a workout, good nutrition, sleep and recovery… Things only get tougher after 45 years old, more recovery is needed at this age.

Turning 48 this year. Best shape of my life thanks to weekly push/pull/squat routines. Still able to go 5-6 days a week. Workouts being 30 minutes.

Hi Jamie, thanks for sharing! Motivating to hear, I also find the same format (5-6 30' workouts per week) to work best as we "grow up"!
What I tell the people I coach is "Commit for a lifetime, half an hour a day"!

Check out the “Walrus” trainig from Jim Wendler (531 author) - it is weight vest training with high frequency of a push/pull/legs exercises/day (300 bw squats, 200 pushups, 100 chin ups for example)

I'm 58 and I have had a few injuries over the years, but I keep coming back from them and now I am more careful about my training. I can still do bodyweight training at a higher level than most young men in their twenties. I appreciate all the tips I have learned from your channel and your books (I own 4 of them).

    • @josephh3691

@@BodyweightMuscle I used to do pull-ups, dips and pushups very fast, now I do them slow and controlled to take advantage of the eccentric aspects of the movement and avoid shoulder problems. I still do plyometric jumps for my legs, but I'm careful about where I land to avoid ankle or knee injuries.

@@josephh3691 Thanks for your input Joseph. At 61, I also take this slower and steady approach when working out. I see too many older people choosing to slow their physical activities down then realizing they are no longer able to do them.

Thank You for this OG. I since I was 14 I have been keeping a plan to stay in shape as decades past. I am working on the decade of when I turn 40 now, but I can add this to my 30 year old arsenal. I would like for you to cover eating habits mentally and mentally following macros or food portioning when you can. I been telling people for years, no one can out train bad nutrition. It WILL show up in the body and/or performance.
    Blessings!!!!!

What are the biggest obstacles you struggle with staying (or getting) in shape after 30?
    P.S. Tip for younger men...
No, 30 is not old... But! It is the tipping point after which if we don’t take care of ourselves, things start escalating a lot faster and often before you realize it.

Point #2 is my issue. I am in my late thirties and have been out of the gym for a couple years due to a significant shoulder injury. It's finally healed to the point where I can train again but I keep injuring myself every time I try to get back in the gym because I am trying to train like I am still 25.

    • @BodyweightMuscle

Tip #1: Your warm-up should be half your workout, with extra focus on your weakest points (your shoulder in your case)

Both of these comments are really helpful. I have experienced this repeating injuries issues myself. And I am finally starting to approach fitness differently. I was always able to compensate for pain and injuries when I was younger - and now I realize it's not that I can't push through it and do the stuff I wanna do, but I want to go slowly and get to a place where I can enioy doing the physical things I want to do.
