I'm so glad that the Luigi's Mansion series is getting the love it deserved all the way from the start. Also it's refreshing to see other Allies besides Damiani review Nintendo games now.
Bloodworth has always been one of the Nintendo connoisseurs even back in the GT days. But ya it’s nice having Ben and others doing Nintendo game reviews as well.
Great review for a fantastic game. Creativity, level design, boss fights and overall presentation are unbridled, the most fun I’ve had with any game this year. My GOTY for sure.
Playing through this with my 6 year old son and we're having an absolute blast with it! This game is so well done. Nintendo is killing it this year.
My girlfriend and me saw it on the store the other day and picked it not expecting much... Man, what a BLAST! This game is so detailed it looks more like a PS4/Xbox One game than a Switch. And the humor and sense of exploring and amazement is one of the best in recent years. Many people is losing their minds with Death Stranding, but I sincerely think this game is better and easily my personal (and unexpected) game of the year
Just shows what the switch is capable of when a game is designed from the ground up: truly beautiful graphics and a great game to boot.
It's more a testament to how much you can turn up all the dials when you focus your game down to a smaller environment. I would really prefer these AAA companies stopped chasing VAST OPEN WORLDS, and started focusing on titles like this. Smaller playspaces, but better graphics, more inventive gameplay, and improved physics and simulations. Bigger isn't always better.
wait when SwSh is released, you will see true NextGen n64 visuals
from the ground up.
you know the game is just the same as the gamecube version and the 3ds version only with some other level designs.
Color Bars hullo cullorr barss
@@benjaminbenjamin8392 I meant it's designed for the switch. Saying its the same as the GameCube and 3ds games with some new level designs is not accurate. Might as well say the same for any game in a series.
The animations in this game are so good and as Blood has written, filled with personality. Surprise GOTY contender.
Definitely not a GOTY contender but the animations are some of the best of the entire generation. I recommend to watch Digital Foundry's tech analysis on the game.
@@FuzzyDlop No? I feel like it hasn't been a really Huge year... What would you suggest are the GOTY contenders?
@JB Sekiro
Fuzzy Dunlop idk man, it has some of the most satisfying gameplay and creative mechanics that have really made it much more interesting and fun to me than most other games I’ve played all year
@@brokenfiction999 fire Emblem Three Houses
Easily one of my favourite Switch games, great review Blood!
Man, Blood always writes quality reviews
Bloodworth always busy! Outer Worlds and now this! good job Blood!
I am SO glad you mentioned the annoying thing with the controls with left/right being relative to Luigi's current direction.
Other than that, I am having a lot of fun with the game though :)
You can change the contols in the menu settings to match your preference ;)
Doesn't change the fact that the developers made it their preferrable option.
NetConsole
I played the game a couple days after release and the default option after an update was the type B controls where you need to use the right stick to change where Luigi is aiming. I think the type B controls are great.
Wow, this was not on my radar. I'm going to have to pick this up!
It’s amazing!
You won’t regret it!
Imma skip it.
InnerRise Noooo big mistake!!
I just started this after beating Link’s awakening and I have to say it’s fantastic. I’m having more fun with this than Link’s awakening
So charming!.
I have been on the fence about this game, but now I am definitely getting it.
Probably first next month tho, since Sword and Shield + Star Wars are so close.
This is the first time I'm actually interested in getting a Luigi's mansion game.
Nick GM Never played the first two. Bought this game and is easily one of my favorites of the year.
@elijoker - I’ve never played a Luigi’s Mansion and just started this. Having a blast. Gameplay is so engaging and fun. So much personality. I’ve been missing out
I bought Luigi’s Mansion and Dark Moon on my 3DS in prep for this. I can’t wait! Wonderfully written and edited review, guys.
The worst thing about this game is now I have to wait for Luigi's Mansion 4
I kind of want NLG to make a sequel to Kid Icarus given their skill with animations.
I really love this game, but man the duck controls suck on such a massive level. I really wish they had customization options.
I can't stress enough how enjoyable this game is, personally I would have apreciated a little more care in the development of the Slam mechanic because it feels a little overpowered, but this doesn't mean the game is easy, Luigi is a puzzle game, and the puzzles are where it delivers, finding a way to attack a boss, creating a path to get to a visible reward or discovering the way to enter a room seemingly unaccessible on the map is the true accomplishment for the player and it always feels so rewarding. Besides, people can avoid using the slam and since sucking feels so good in this game it doesn't seem to botch the experience.
pftttt little more care...
I wasn't expecting a 9, but the polish and refinement of the series in the game definitely warrants it. I know not being able to invert the controls is an issue but the game feels like it has more control options than most Nintendo games.
Luigi getting some starring time under the limelight is always a pleasure. Now if only Daisy was the one in need of rescue this time instead of Mario "again" and Peach "cos of course."
I came back because my friend reminded me of Pixar’s Luigi’s Mansion 3. Like seriously, how will Illumination surpass this? In rendering sure, but this game’s amount of high-quality *animation* is something many AAA devs on more powerful hardware can’t compete with the charm on play here, there’s still some that can compete but not many.
Next Level popped off so hard.
Really good game, for me personally it's more of an 8, though. The last couple floors drag a bit and start to edge towards padding territory, and combat gets super samey because of very similar enemy types and the over-powered Slam. Overall though, this review nailed it. Just wish the game was a little spookier!
Nintendo has been on a crazy tear.
In the last five months we have...
June: Mario Maker 2
July: Fire Emblem Three Houses
August: Astral Chain
September: Link's Awakening
October: Luigi's Mansion 3
This year might have started slower for them, but it sure picked up in a hurry. And this doesn't even count their more niche offerings or smaller exclusives.
You deserve more views, there are quality reviews on this channel
Great review! Thoroughly surprised by this game from the graphics to the puzzles to even the physics engine. Sleeper GOTY contender.
Luigi has a ghost dog now? I am sold.
Someone didn't play the second game.
@@Vvonter Yyyyyyyyupppp!
An unbelievable surprise of a game. I had never played a LM before this, so I wasn't sure what I was getting in to. LM3 turned out to be my potential GOTY, and easily one of the best games on the Switch
Great and enjoyable review!
I just got a Sprite cranberry ad
Great review! :)
Thank you Bloodworth and Jones!
relaxing music
for me its better than dark moon and nearly as good as the original, I feel like tiny things are missing like the darkness, the music that plays when Luigi finds a key, toads being save points but theyre just nitpicks. the ghosts are unique and ideas are rarely used twice, it looks so amazing and the character scope is close to super mario sunshine, everything is just such joy and for me one of the best games of 2019 forsure
Why having the Toads being save points? I mean I get maybe having save files would be better, but I didn't miss having save points. It needed a pitch black floor though.
Vvonter it would've been a nice touch from the original.
Always love a review from Blood.
I know its not Mario or Zelda but seriously do not sleep on this. If not for Fire Emblem would be my GOTY which I really was not expecting. It really is super fun and full of secrets and surprises.
I'm enjoying it more than Mario Odyssey and Link's Awakening. Definitely in my top three Switch games.
@@booski1865 I agree, despite Odyssey's return to a 64 style, I think this game has much more personality and expression from the characters somehow. Also the room by room nature made possible for the game to look even better.
"... and reel them in like big fish".
I see what you did there.
Hell yeah it’s a 9/10 let’s go blood!! This game is great one certainly a current top 5 switch game!!!
LooOooOove & RespeEeeEect oooOoooOohhhh!
Wonderful review Blood!
It was a bit too short, I wanted more it was so good.
12-15 hours is too short? If anything I thought thew game overstayed its welcome a tad thanks to a couple moments of bad padding.
It’s a shame like Mario Odyssey could of had loads of DLC
My GOTY for 2019 :)
How much backtracking is there? I didn't mind the "100 boos" of the first game, but constantly feeling like I lost progress in clearing the mansions because the mission structure returned ghosts to cleared rooms really annoyed me in the second one.
There are a couple levels you have to return to for story reasons, with new objectives or new areas. For the most part though, returning is optional. There's one boo added to each level after you've cleared it, and the gems depend on whether you've found them your first time through or not. Random ghosts do repopulate in some areas, but they aren't tied to progress in any way, so they just help keep the game from feeling empty, and sometimes they come in all new configurations that weren't there the first time around. -Bloodworth
@@EasyAllies Thanks!
my top 5 game of the year!
Looks fun ^^ !!!
thanks for your work, EZA. L&R
the graphics r amazing
This is a good review
That World Level
I’m about halfway through it and kinda bored, gotta be honest. It’s fine, but definitely too generous a score for a one-and-done kind of affair like this
"kept you waiting, huh??"

@@ArkUmbra I did, but he might as well have linked Pornhub in all honesty...
Awesome game awesome review

Great review Blood!
This game is an absolute delight. I’ve just been taking it one floor at a time and really letting it marinate. The game just has so much personality and is brimming with polish. Luigi is so expressive, the music is vibrant, and the graphics and animations are top notch. This game is definitely in my top 3 of the year.
What a shame this game was released so close to the new Pokemons. Everyone will be holding their money for that instead.
Yes and no
Horror REDEFINED. 😁 💚💚💚
After some hours with the game, I feel like keeping the controls inverted was a deliberate design choice from the developers. When you see Luigi controlling the Poltergust it feels awkward and somewhat cumbersome, like a super-powered vacuum cleaner would. The inverted controls enhance that feeling for me, but without really making it unplayable or unpleasant.
Honestly you can get used to it. It's not a shooter and doesn't ever require you to aim perfectly, nor anything like that.
Googi..... Simple yet effective! Lol
You lost me at can not invert Y Axis. Automatic 0 for me. 2019 and it is ludicrous not have that in by now....
Same, absolutely ridiculous. No D-pad movement for Link's Awakening too... Nintendo baffle me sometimes.
Ah, cool classic game. I remember it from last month.
Wow... Okay then.
The graphics are the only part that I like in this game. Feels really bad to have spent full price on this, the collecting just make me sick, as it's something you end up doing for something you don't care about. The combat sucks and it's just boring to collect ghosts or beat them up. I rarely can play more than 30-60 minutes until I become bored. Have not played any of the other games, but this was such a disappointment and can't see what's great with the other games as gooigi is easily the best part of the gameplay.
How this game disappointing? It literally follows up from the previous Luigi's mansion games which you clearly haven't played.
axel f
Better than the walking simulator death stranding
Am I the only one that didn't like the garden floor? I mean after playing every LM, I do think it's a lot better than Dark Moon, but man the garden floor and boss were boring imo.
Thought it was great
I really enjoyed it. One of my favorite floors. -Bloodworth
It was fine, though to be fair, I walk around it multiple times, either for gems or "that" ghost. I think on future playthroughs it'll be less of a pain.
Gooigi.
I had a dream about being a switch owner but not until dmc3
REVIEW DISCO ELYSIUM MASTERPIECE. What are you guys doing?
Pog?
Hi EasyAllies, i know you are proud guys but your Patreons are getting less. It probably would help to put the patreon part at the beginning. Same goes for the please subscribe notice.
Our number of patrons is still quite high, most of the dip in funding is in regards to podcast sponsors which we are working on. While I understand many people click out of the video once they see the score, moving the Patreon pitch earlier wouldn't likely have a great effect on encouraging new people to join, particularly at high dollar levels. -Bloodworth
@@EasyAllies Hi Bloodworth, thanks for the answer. I just worry that this was a trend in the wrong direction and hope for the EasyAllies to do well.
8/10 way too easy and shop options are lackluster
For me too. It's a very solid game but it held back in terms of difficulty. With that said it was able to deliver in the spectacle.
Hell yeah. Easiest GOTY
i have understimated this game, i solid purchase Over freaking pokemon >
The best Luigi mansion game hands down. In fact Switch game of the year.

Nintendo's Goty confirmed!! Suck it Link's Awakening XD
Luigi > Mario
so if this was on a other system like xbox or playstation would this have gotten a 6 or a 5.
Nice try

Charming, inventive & a constant delight while playing.
Score: 1.5 out of 5 Stars
*Kojima Grading System was used thanks to generous viewers like yourselves*
The same people calling fortnite a "kids game" are excited over this lol. For the record, I love both.
This game was a big disappointment for me. I didn't like the controls, the money felt pointless after I found out what it's used for. I collected all the gems and boos just cause I was curious on what you get at the end and they're just skins for the flashlight and plunger thing. The aesthetics are fucking amazing and the personality cute and fun but it just felt to cartoonish and Halloween spooky special for me. I was really hoping for that silent and dark creepy atmosphere from 1. The ghosts in the original had a creepy look and sounded freakish; loved how they would get pissed after missing a punch and vanish just to creep up behind you for another hook. These new niggas look fucking dorky. Lol gonna pour out a 40 for the digital refund I'll never get.
First
Nice review
Ugh. “Move the series forward” should be a banned cliche.
This game is amazing and definitely deserving of its score - but really EA, you scored this game the same as Breath of the Wild, as good as this game is BotW is a genre-defying masterpiece, that many now consider the best game ever made. And your only actual critique seemed be of some frame-rate dips, that have long since been patched. Sometimes I just feel like you scored the game so low to try and pull it it down on Metacritic.
You really should go back and re-score BotW to a 10, or at the very least 9.6.
only giving that game a 9, have made me loose a lot of faith in you.
If you own a Switch, buy this game.
Luigis mansion 3 officially better than Death Stranding, Sony Ponies gonna be pissed. LoL
Looks cute. But the endless recycling and rehashing of the same characters by Nintendo just has no appeal to me. I played the original Donkey Kong in the arcade way back in the early '80s, but skipped the 7,000 different Mario-iterations afterwards. I'm sure it'll sell by the boatload, though.
But Nintendo always evolves and innovates gameplay within the franchises. It's a shame to skip out on those games just because they have the same characters.
@@booski1865 I skipped gaming for many years in my life. I have no connection to the characters at all. Enjoy what you want to enjoy. I'm not saying Nintendo or any of the characters they rehash are bad. Just no connection for me.
Imagine if Disney just made Mickey Mouse cartoons, over and over, for decades.
@@fizzyshellfish5439 to be fair Nintendo has developed (and continues to) many other franchises, perhaps not as successful, but people still love the big 3 (Mario, Zelda, Metroid), that's why they continue to create new games in the series. And also, I'm a huge Disney fan, but they've done their fair share of rehashing (see the last five years of "remakes" or Star Wars sequels that that recycle plots from the original series). But I see your point. I think the difference is Disney is in the storytelling business and Nintendo is more about gameplay.
Tragic news that there's no option for inverted controls, I will never touch it hearing this.
Who cares big baby, its game of the year, and its on Switch, deal with it padre.

This received a higher score than Death Stranding? Let's think about that for a moment...um, why?! lol
Probably because they thought it was more fun
@@booski1865 That's true. I forget some players need to have fun in order to enjoy an experience. I guess I'm weird for finding Death Stranding's exploration mechanic compelling. :)
@@msmoon6011 I haven't played DS but I've felt Kojima has become increasingly self indulgent to the point I don't have much interest. Btw, I'm a huge fan of Metal Gear Solid and Snake Eater. But I'm loving Luigi's Mansion 3!
@@booski1865 Haha , yeah I can see that being a turnoff. :) I'm glad you're enjoying Luigi's Mansion 3, though. It sounds like it's becoming a sleeper hit for the Switch.
Would you honestly review Luigi's Mansion with Death Stranding as a comparison at any point of what you write? The review score is only relative to the game in question, not other games.
controls are garbage
Do you know from experience or are you just jumping on the bandwagon?
Just another ghostbusters game rip off but in cartoon form
