Cheers Peter! Yep, the workshop is much better now, but I've lost my outfeed table which I'm really missing - I'll have to bodgy something up for that. Stay safe on them ladders mate!
Thanks Dave, I made it for my son and yeah I wanted it to be easy to move - in case he goes away to study or something. Cheers man - hope you're doing well too!
Cheers dude! It's sooo nice having a drill that doesn't stall whenever it sees a piece of wood on the other side of the room.

Hello my friend, You've created a great table. These days, too, I have to make a table. You did a good job. Congratulations. See you all the time. I wish you healthy and happy days. Big greetings. Yours sincerely, Mehmet.
Hi Mehmet, thank you. This desk is for my son - he's using it everyday now. Good luck with your table build - it's quite a rewarding and useful project. Rob
Cheers man, yeah I've always loved the look of quality ply too. This panel wasn't even that expensive either which is pretty much unheard of in NZ. See you next time 👍🏼
In retrospect they are better this way 'cos full mitered tapered legs would have come out kind of like a weird dining table design. I'm glad it ended up this way now to be honest. Saved by the cock up 🤙🤙
Cheers Bill mate. I honestly almost binned the legs because I wanted a heavier look originally than the cut down version. But I'm happy with that look now - heavier would have been too heavy. I was on the good side of karma this time, you could say.
@@TakamiWoodshop Never knew karma had a good side. 🤔 She's usually a right old b¡tch to me! 😣😳😆😂🤣🤣🤣 I think it may have looked a little odd having the chunky legs without an apron around it to fill out the top, as it looks narrow. Either way it turned out perfectly well for its purpose. 😉👍🏽
Thanks mate. the shop is a lot more usable now, and over lockdown I've got access again to my "assembly" table - the one under my main bench with all the drills and routers in it - that can roll out from under there now. If you're doing tapers I've got a really shitty jig you can use (it is really shitty though)
Nice job Rob, don't beat yourself up about the miter, getting the angles right is always tricky. I was impressed with the quality of the ply you used. Looks like it is unique to Kiwi Bunnies. Oz Bunnies seems to focus on structural stuff, if you want furniture grade you have to go to a specialist ply supplier it seems.
Hey Bob, the panel isn't available at all the stores but it's not too bad - and at $69 kiwibucks it's not ridiculously expensive either. As for the angles of the miter - that saga is way more sinister than just the angles - mores plot twists than a good Hitchcock that one! I hope to portray it all in my next vid.
Good job! If the hardware stores are closed down there and a roof starts leaking what's one supposed to do? I'd say hardware stores are are pretty essential.
Hey thanks Ari. Hardware stores, They were open for essential work and professionals but not for guys in their garage playing around like me. Actually is all over now in NZ and everything is open now to everybody.
Thanks man - I like to keep it as real as possible but you know what RUclips is like with long videos (nobody watches 'em) so I cut most of it out in this vid. I'll go over it in a future video and hopefully it will help somebody to avoid making the same mistake.
@@TakamiWoodshop Depends on the topic & how they are made. Generally woodworking tutorials and stuff don't but other types of videos for sure get watched, even if they are long.
Cheers mate. You and three other of my viewers might be the only ones who realise the significance of cutting 8 identical tapered pieces. Even after I'd done it it stumped me for about 13 hours.
"It's only for inside the house" LOL... you got some nice new tools mate... that tablesaw and bandsaw look epic... has it been that long since I watched one of your videos?... shame on me... :-)
lol, yeah I got those tools pretty recently - the bandsaw and the drill - in the last 6 months or so. I've had that tablesaw for about three years though.
In my next video I will reveal the secret code that unlocks the levels allowing you to do mitering && tapering *without* f#@king it up like me. Just give me a couple of weeks to figure it out 🤣
hehehe cheers dude. My son reckons so too, he's been using it over 8 weeks of lockdown to do 5 minutes of school work and 15 hours 55 minutes of X-Box *every* day!! That's how much he likes the desk!
lvl 2 ... yeah, I think we can - just as long as there are no hoards of young girls there (max 7) and as long as only a max of 8 of me shows up (assuming Mrs. Tools is there). We can talk about pish - been meaning to talk about that so glad you brought it up. 🤙🏼
G’day mate, I’m starting to think plywood is king & natural hardwood serves a purpose elsewhere as it’s a bitch to control for stability, cool 😎 project 🍻👍
Hey cobber, well I think you're right about that - especially these veneered products - I mean - if it's veneered with oak, it's oak right!? Aesthetically they are very different though. Solid hardwood is just next level in terms of its potential to provide a good experience to its owner. For example, imagine if @Kuffy made the exact same design as this one out of hardwood how fucking awesomely incredible it would be. Materials + Craftsman skill = Whoah! My desk is functional and it looks nice. But you don't sit down at it and marvel at how awesome the universe is. If you know what I mean.
Very simple and elegant design. Love it.
Cheers Chris. It's always good when a project doesn't go to plan but it still turns out alright 😂
Great job buddy! I especially love workarounds for stuff-ups. Thank you for keeping it real and showing the blood, sweat and tears of it all
😉👍
Cheers mate! I hope to be able to explain it in a way that everyone can understand in my next video. 👍🏼
Really nice job on that Rob, workshop looks far more useable now👍👍
