This is my design for a coffee table with a hardwood base and a plywood box with open shelves for the table top. This is my first time using oak and I had to do a lot of hand planing and thickness planing before I could cut it down to size I wanted but I really like the result and really enjoyed working with oak.
The plywood has a high pressure laminate on the faces which gives it some good protection and the white gives a nice contrast with the oak. I decided to leave the edges of the plywood visible instead of edge banding.
    The plywood I used:

This table arrived well packaged and on time. ruclips.net/user/postUgkxn94T8Mu1iMnsLCMNOI9srXSsLkI4JXKW Like another reviewer advised, I pulled everything out and made sure everything was included (everything was!). I built it alone and it took me about an hour. The color is great and for the price the lift part works well. As others have mentioned, it’s not the smoothest opening/closing, but it works. The screws do show, but I plan to order white sticker covers if that bothers us too much. Really happy with this table! UPDATE: it’s been over a year since we got this coffee table and we still love it! It gets HEAVY use as our dining table, foot rest, and school desk. Over time, the opening and closing mechanism has gotten smoother. I added a new photo with the white screw cover stickers. They blend in perfectly and make it look a little cleaner. 100% recommend!!!

It's crazy how simple and clean it looks, but, meanwhile, you see the all making process you realize that it's a lot of work, or steps to make that coffee table. I'm not totally in love with it, but I have to admit that is pretty well made and finished.

Excellent design and execution. Seriously I think you did everything right. You know sometimes one does a project that end up great but along the way they skimped on a few minor details that no one would ever notice. We do that because a lot of the time it's not worth it to go the extra sanding mile or what have you. Not here though. I think your design allows for getting it done 100% without sacrificing time. I love it!

I appreciate the comments. Ben from Homemade Modern has a different design approach to his projects. his projects focus on simplicity, accessibility and availability for people with limited tools and skills, which he does it really well. Even though his channel is huge and has grown really well he still chooses to use minimal tools and processes because of this approach. My channel is about my own personal growth as a woodworker and RUclipsr so I choose/want to focus on developing my skills and abilities with different methods and tools which can lead to more intricate designs. Riyadh Marthinus's comparison to me and Homemade Modern might not be about the product itself, he could be referring to our video style, work flow, or even our good looks (hopefully *cough cough*).
