@ayang005 D= !!! It took me 5 hours to find that song. It sounded pretty neutral to me >_< But then again people always argue about music taste. I will try to find some other options, but it is not as easy or cheap since I need to buy a licence to get the rights to play it in the video.
@ImJustWingingIt I dont do anything with the part that is sticking out inside the head. The eyelashes are soft so they will bend nicely around the eyes when you add them. As long as you glue them properly there shouldnt be any issues. Thank you :)
@BiscuitDegaro aww thanks! This was a commissions so it was not my Jess ^^ I actually find it a good opportunity if I have to paint a sculpt that I own, because I can paint the eyebrows/eyelashes/ in a different way and if I like it very much I can change my own dolls too :)
@HoshiBerry Usually (and I can't speak for Nicolle, but most faceup artist's I know, and the few I've done myself) you scrape a small amount of pastel "dust" off the pastel stick with a razor and apply that to the brush like you would say, blush make up, and then apply layers onto the doll. It can take several layers to make a large impact, which is one of the nice things about pastels, you can control how heavy or light the color is.
I love how the makeup is always so night and light .I've never done a face-up before, but,I think I would rather watch someone as talented as you do face-ups!Just watching you do face-ups makes me nervous about doing my first face-up.I know that most people who do their first face-ups aren't so good but most of them are amazing!
@NotoriousWriter She uses a sealant spray, like Mr Super Clear, which is like a protective layer. It seals the pastels and paints so they don't rub away ^_^
That is the aim yes, you usually want a body for the head :) Because these heads are commissions only, I do not get the bodies sent since it would make shipping costs even more expensive for my clients.
few questions: what do you use as sealant? it doesn't appear to add any gloss or extra thickness to the head do you brush color right off the pastel sticks, or do you shave it and dip your brush in the powder? when you add lashes, do you trim the extra on the "inside" of the head, or can the eyes be placed without the ends getting in the way? thanks for posting these, they're terribly fun to watch~!
😵Wow!..... That is just stunning! Outstanding beautiful peace of art you have in the palm of your hands . What fine detail in the eyes and lips! I'm speech less. You have some quite steady hand you've got there!
yay! what a pretty face up. You seem to put a lot of care and detail into you work, I'm amazed! Also, the sealing counter is an awesome addition to the videos!
i think fairyland should just approach you to do faceups for them hahaha, i bet you've boosted a lot of their sales! If i ever get a doll in larger size, i'll def consider this sculpt i know! Thanks so much Andreja for taking the time to record and edit and put up this vid, i know you must have a lot of faceup commissions going on, so thank you for sharing. ♥
None of my faceups are symmetrical, but I strive to make them as close as possible ^___^ It is definitely a big challenge and what makes it even more difficult is the fact that so many sculpts have got a lot of asymmetrical features that complicate things even further.
Oooo Andreja you kill me with your skills! You deserve 500million high-fives for being so talented, awesome, and super sweet! :3 Love the song by the way, I think it's really a perfect fit~
@HoshiBerry You have to layer it up. As Nicolle has mentioned, she layers and layers and layers. You need to continuously build it up, and this does take more than half and hour to and hour.
Yes but NOT oil pastels, avoid everything that says "OIL" because it will damage the resin. The key is "Soft" pastels (chalk pastels)and for gloss and paint always use "acrylic", as for pencils, watercolor pencils. Good brands (check if they're oil or soft): Mungyo Gallery pastels, Rhembrandts, Schmincke, Sennelier, Holbein.
Wow! You are amazing!! I really love watching you do face-ups (and for the record, I think the song is PERFECT and I hope you keep it for all your face-up vids! It's relaxing and enjoyable to listen to!) and I hope you continue this series for a LONG time in the future! :) I'm so impressed by skilled face-up artists like you! I wouldn't have the patience for all the tiny details that add up to make an amazing face-up! I can't wait for the next video! :)
Hi Andreja! I have a few questions for you: 1) What is that cute little green eraser you are using? 2) Wouldn't an exacto-knife be dangerous on resin (scratching, particularly)? 3) What happens to the back end of the lashes that stay inside the head? Looks like they would interfere with eyes, no? Thanks, and excellent job with this video!
I hope this isnt too silly a question. I am new to bjd painting and wanted to know. the # on the screen sealed # of times. did you seal between each coloring layer? and painted on the sealant?
Wow ur so talented!! :D I wonder how you can draw symmetrical eyebrows for her without using any tools, I found that very challenging when I was trying to do a face up for my doll.
Ah I just love watching these! I was wondering something. Since you can do all this make up on these dolls then how are your make up skills on humans? Just a thought. I would like to see another face up from you. Can't wait for another upload! Thanks for sharing :)
Very beautiful x x x what is the music being played if you don't mind me asking... It ties in perfectly with the face ups x x x and please carry on with these, there astonishingly beautiful x !!!
What beautiful work you do! How long does it typically take you to do a face up? Also, what do you do with the eyelashes that hang into the face plate? Do you cut them down and with what? I just don't understand how eyes would fit in without pushing the lashes out.
@NicollesDreams Well, I just think you did it right. The song must be neutral and not interfere too much with the video. I just think it looks a lot like the songs they play on those "Home and Health" channels, for the tips and tricks shows. Which I like, because it gives a professional feeling to the video. Once again, a great and instructive video!!
First, I want to say that I met you a recently by the Flickr, and I am really fan of your Face-ups *-* I've always been looking for videos on youtube, and yours is so complete and helped me a lot ... I want to congratulate you, does beautiful work and makes them so special *-* Second, I wanted to ask what is the little green thing that you use to make small repairs? I do not know if I can ask this question, but it made me curious. >
I have a question. I noticed you used one brand of watercolors when doing the eyelids and another one when you were drawing the creases of her eyes, does that help make the color more visible faster or it doesn't really matter which brand you use for different parts of her face? Sorry for the confusing question.
I reccomend practicing on clearance EAH, monster high, or Bratz dolls like the other person said. Very simple materials are needed when you first start. I am working on my second repaint (an mlp) and I have used only sealant, acrylic paint, chalk pastels, artist grade colour pencils (such as prisma colour or watercolour pencils) and of course polish remover to remove the factory paint. Once you advance and if you continue to enjoy it you can invest in some nicer products.
Thanks for the video, Andreja!! >w< I have one question that popped in my mind in the first video... how do you manage to make the eyelashes not interfere in the way you fit the eyes in the sockets? I mean, you don't glue them exactly in the roots, but a little backwards, so I was ondering if the eyes don't take them off, or force the lashes to other shape, or even don't fit in any way o.o If so, do you have any tips to avoid that? ^^ Thanks a lot in advance!!! ♥
hey i really like your video and i did hear about SD dolls before in asia. i am wondering about wat kind of make up(paints) you use on them? i can tell u use airbrush, but wat kind of art pencil/pigments u use on them?
Great video! I learnt a lot from your last video, especially regarding technique with the pencil. It really helped in my latest faceup. ^^ One question: you do the lower lashes and eyebrow hairs several times. Are you simply retracing previous lines, or adding more lines? Thanks.
Ohhhh! Saw one of your faceup on Enaibi's Naïade ^^ So you most work with pastel, that's interesting!! I also work with aibrush but my mouth were not as gorgeous as yours, that's why xD Thank to share your tips, will try that tomorrow!
around 12:20 when you are dabbing your brush at the front of the eyebrows are you adding more flesh tone to it or are you just softening the corners with the brush?
Do your customers typically ask you for specific colours and etc, or are you usually the one to decide what the doll's makeup will be like? (is there an equal amount of both??) Just curious. :)
I love the song :) But I was wondering (first of all, is this Jess, or another owner's Chloe?) I know you've done face ups for many other Chloes. But is it odd at all for you to feel the familiarity of a sculpt without it being your own doll?
To remove face ups you can use: Mr. Clean Magic Eraser, isopropyl alcohol 90% -- be careful not to use the eraser sponge WITH the solvent...Avoid: acetone. Visit the forum "Den of Angels" for more info, you will find everything you need to know about face ups.
@NicollesDreams Don't worry about the song. It's not depressing in anyway Lol. That person clearly doesn't know what depressing song is XD Anyway, I've never seen anyone do this kind of stuffs. It's really awesome! You're awesome!
I wonder if mnf resin is pretty hard to face-up? I bought one from DoA (secondhand mnf chloe with default face-up), my 2 friends can't handle it at all. Is airbrush a must?
@ayang005 D= !!! It took me 5 hours to find that song. It sounded pretty neutral to me >_< But then again people always argue about music taste. I will try to find some other options, but it is not as easy or cheap since I need to buy a licence to get the rights to play it in the video.
Check the description and have a look at the Q&A video, it answers the most common questions, yours included.
@ImJustWingingIt I dont do anything with the part that is sticking out inside the head. The eyelashes are soft so they will bend nicely around the eyes when you add them. As long as you glue them properly there shouldnt be any issues.

I actually find it a good opportunity if I have to paint a sculpt that I own, because I can paint the eyebrows/eyelashes/ in a different way and if I like it very much I can change my own dolls too :)
I was adding more flesh coloured pastel :) but when you do that, you also automatically soften the brown shades below.
But I do not sell dolls, I only customise them for clients who bought the BJD on their own ;)
Have a look at my channel, there is a video specifically showing how to remove faceups.
You should think about opening an etsy, I think you might be very popular on it and could make a lot of money with doll collectors :)
@NotoriousWriter She uses a sealant spray, like Mr Super Clear, which is like a protective layer. It seals the pastels and paints so they don't rub away ^_^

I use it to remove any dust specks that got stuck on the faceup during the sealing process :)
😵Wow!..... That is just stunning! Outstanding beautiful peace of art you have in the palm of your hands . What fine detail in the eyes and lips! I'm speech less. You have some quite steady hand you've got there!
You can find all the basic prices on my commission website liked in the description :)

The music is so beautiful. It's like a lullaby.
All your faceups are beautiful.
Thanks for show how you make them.
I love your work, you are a big artist
You do such incredible work. I wish I could be this good.
You are very inspirational. I'm new to the BJD community but I hope to enjoy doing what you do someday. Thank you for sharing your videos.

I normally do sci-fi and fantasy minature painting, but this is just amazing! great work!

BJD (ball jointed dolls)
They already have the bodies. But my clients do not send them to me since it would be a waste of money.
Have a look at my Q&A videos, it is all in there ;)
Have you thought about using a deep peachy tone for the eyelid line? the black is a bit strong imho, but this is still a really pretty faceup.
no, she doesnt cut them, as they create no problem:) she mentions that in Faceup Stories: 03
That was a joy to watch. Thanks for sharing, she is beautiful
Your face-ups are mesmerising. How much of a plan do you have before you start?
Wow ur so talented!! :D I wonder how you can draw symmetrical eyebrows for her without using any tools, I found that very challenging when I was trying to do a face up for my doll.

The heads can be bought from various ball jointed doll companies. X
@HoshiBerry You literally just dip a dry brush into the pastel dust :)
Your work is amazing!
How do you seal your work on the face?
Have you ever done goth or zombie makeup?
What beautiful work you do! How long does it typically take you to do a face up? Also, what do you do with the eyelashes that hang into the face plate? Do you cut them down and with what? I just don't understand how eyes would fit in without pushing the lashes out.

I want to do my own faceups but im scared i'll screw it up urghhh >
You should practice with a cheap doll like a monster high or barbie so if you mess up, you wouldn't have wasted so much money
I reccomend practicing on clearance EAH, monster high, or Bratz dolls like the other person said. Very simple materials are needed when you first start. you can buy the eyeballs on the same sites that sell the doll parts.

The best tutorial face-up video! It makes me go and draw too harder!
Thank you!! Waiting for the next head :D

Your work is so beautiful! Just out of curiousity, what do you use the exacto knife for during the face ups?
WOW! Thank you for sharing all your tips! ;) It was so informative! You have a great talent!
I love your work! And now i want a MNF Chloe gaah D:
Also, is that green thingy a rubber eraser?
@LOVEMUSICHATE she already did, check her flickr.
around 12:20 when you are dabbing your brush at the front of the eyebrows are you adding more flesh tone to it or are you just softening the corners with the brush?
This is probably a really noobish question, but what do you mean when your sealing something?
Thaks a lot for your videos. I want to do a face up with freckles...do you have any idea?. Did anyone ask you to do this?
Do your customers typically ask you for specific colours and etc, or are you usually the one to decide what the doll's makeup will be like? (is there an equal amount of both??) Just curious. :)

first of all amazing! i've benn wondering, what are these kind of dolls called?

Adobe After Effects
What kind of brand of gouache are you using? Also, is it Artist Gouache, Student and Scholastic Gouache, or Acrylic Gouache?
You did a BEAUTIFUL job! :D i just have one question..how big is a Minifees head? :)
@NicollesDreams Don't worry about the song. It's not depressing in anyway Lol. That person clearly doesn't know what depressing song is XD Anyway, I've never seen anyone do this kind of stuffs. It's really awesome! You're awesome!
you are great!! I love your make ups!!!
how many coats of primer and how many coats of sealant do you give the dolls?
+Cynthia Lopez check my brush on sealants video for all the info.
Thanks
I'm going to buy one of these dolls and I dont think I can do a face up. How much do you charge to do a face up?
i want to do one it look so fun. but i can't.
Its odd when you watch a faceup for it to end up looking like you,... I mean those eyes match mine to a tea! OoO
I wonder if mnf resin is pretty hard to face-up? I bought one from DoA (secondhand mnf chloe with default face-up), my 2 friends can't handle it at all. Is airbrush a must?
@Maleficently Well it's what I do but I must be doing something wrong because there is a few to no powder at all that goes on the head :/
she uses special eyelashes made for dolls, as they are much thinner and smaller:)
I forgot to ask in the first video, what kind of shimmer do you use?
Wouldn't take days to do this? Also your very talented you should sell them even give people classes.
+PixiePlays02 yes it does take a long time, sometimes days. ah no I wasnt born with this skill, anyone can do it with enough practice :) hehe.
+Nicolle's Dreams I just love how you actually interact with people in the comment section. That's actually really good.
Are...are you sure? > 。>
how do the eyes look before you put them in, do you glue those to, what about the eyes
I was just wondering the editing software you use and if you do it yourself?
@Maleficently lol, that's cool; well we all have different views to the word "relaxing". Yours and mine differs. :D
I can't figure how to make the pastel stick to the brush and then go on the resin (dunno if I make sense derp), any tips?
Aw! She's pretty ^_^
You should do face ups on liv dolls please :D
What type of glitter/shimmer do you use?
