i think most people respect things like women’s gymnastics and such the issue comes when we decide to abolish gender walls in places where biological men will always have a advantage, it becomes unfair to the women it’s sad that stuff like the WNBA isn’t very loved though
Actually, people complained that she did just that. Instead of being “graceful and fluid” she broke the flow twice in her routine to stand up and flip they said.
Elena Muhkina did this with a twist!! She was my favorite gymnast. Tragically she underrotated doing the Thomas salto ( banned for some time now) and landed on her chin & broke her back.
Broke her neck and ended up a quadriplegic. The most tragic thing about it, besides the fact that it could have been prevented if her coach actually cared about her and hadn't tried to rush her back from a broken leg, is the fact that her first thought was like thank God I don't have to go to the Olympics. Such a sad situation.
Okay so I'm not the only one whose mind went there? Her NECK is in jeopardy of hitting the lower bar! This is my favorite routine ever to watch, both when Olga does it and when Elena Mukhina does the "enhanced version." Elena is dead now, though. She landed on her neck doing something else. I can't watch this without thinking of that. It's incredible, but I can't imagine the fear that goes into learning something so dangerous.

Yeah the final dismount? She could've landed with her neck on that bar. Elena Mukhina was a gymnast who did this routine, but added a full twist to the move. Olga is still alive, but Elena is dead (she became paralyzed doing another move, not this one.)
Not true Elena Mukhina did a full twisting version and Maxi Gnauck competed it too. Then in 1985 FIG decided the top bar wasn’t for standing and it was struck from the code
That was impressive! But...then came Elena Mukhina, one of the greatest that ever lived, and took the dead pool a step further by adding a twist in the air!!! The only gymnast to beat Nadia Comaneci in her prime!!! Untill the Soviets pushed her so much before the Olympics, making her compete even with a broken ankle, eventually forcing her to break her neck in practice attempting one of the most difficult male floor exercises. A tragic story worth lookin up for anyone interested.
Olga and Elena Mukhina (RIP) literally defy Newtonian physics. HOW do you land on your pelvis/lower abdomen on that bar without serious internal injuries? It's the type of human achievement that makes me cry thinking how lucky we are to be alive at the same time as this woman.
When she jumped and wrapped her stomach around the bar is worse than you think. My mom says she did a lot of those. Doctors say it moved her organs and they were not in the right spots.
Well. I’m old enough to remember. I also remember it was in the middle of the Cold War, yet both citizens of the USSR and the Us cheered for her and some of us, like me, s sentimental old man, keep a part of our hearts open to her back then and forever. ❤

Because people who are training need to fail to improve and it’s dangerous to train and hurt yourself. That, and even if everything goes perfectly in your routine, just one little factor can put you off (loss of focus, off by a tiny degree, you see something and forget to spot the ground, you don’t everything right but don’t stick it, you land on your foot wrong) so even if you do everything perfect but something tiny goes wrong it can result In serious injuries that prevent the gymnast from competing and may even end their career early
Watch a video on Elena Mukhina and why the Thomas Salto is banned. Gymnastic moves need to have a safe way to bail if you know you're gonna fuck up. If they didn't then gymnasts becoming paralyzed would be commonplace.
She was incredible and was a major factor in my desire to also become a professional gymnast. Her beam routine was incredible too!
